Traditionally Pitt Street was the busiest street. Lots of free things like the galleries, museums and gardens. Best cheap thing to do is to get the ferry to Manly Beach and then walk to Shelley Beach. The ferry back from Manly to Circular Quay will give you an iconic view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House.
I always enjoy the maps for perspective, always a nice touch. Love the "bin chickens"and beautiful spring flowers, and the view from the botanical gardens is spectacular! You both looked so happy 🙂. Great tips and fun ideas for 1st time Sydney travelers! Great editing and music choices.
There are areas people can walk through at the Sydney Opera House for free. Walk up the stairs to the Box Office and you will see a big lobby area. There's information about upcoming shows and a fabulous souvenir store with fascinating items to buy from all price ranges.
The area around the Quay and Opera House is a tourist precinct so prices are inflated compared to other areas in Sydney. A cheap way to see the harbour and a Sydney surf beach is to take a ferry from Circular Quay to Manly.
The thing is the price of food is the price, there is no tip or tax added on top. Although tips are always welcome, they only need to be a few dollars if you feel like it. You are in the tourist trap areas - it is more expensive. If you go to a pub in somewhere like Newtown or Enmore (which are eat streets) then the beer is more like 12AUD a glass for craft beer, and you can buy curries for $12 - $15, plus side dishes and rice. Another option, if you want a meal with a view is Haberfield Rowers Club. Beers and meals are also pretty inexpensive. As you do not live within 5 kilometres of the club, you can go there and sign in as a guest.
@@samandnick Yes they do, but it would be good for vloggers to venture further afield, BTW - if you ever come back to Sydney- absolutely do a tour of the Opera House or go to a performance. But other mistake virtually every UA-cam travel I see is they go to the back of the Opera House. Virtually no one walks around to the front. The building is designed to be seen from the water, so the other side is actually the front. You get magnificent views from the other side.
@@brontewcat I totally agree! We weren't there long enough to adventure out so we just tried to hit all the main stuff. We had planned to video some farmers markets out in some neighborhoods that aren't touristy but we weren't there on the days the markets were open! Next time for sure!
@@samandnick They should know that if they buy anything around Circular Quay then they are being robbed blind. Absolutely everything around there is top price. eg a poster complained on YT a few months ago about the high price of yum cha in downtown Sydney. If he had gone 1/4 mile further south to Chinatown he could have enjoyed the same thing for half as much.
I grew up in Sydney and it's always been expensive but it's definitely peaked in the last 20ish years. Probably after the Olympics. Like the tower that cost $90 used to be called Centrepoint Tower. It is now Sydney Tower. It opened the year I was born in 1981. I remember going a couple of times as a kid. If it cost anything back then it wasn't much because we didn't have much money and when we went we were in and out after maybe 20 minutes. No way my parents paid the equivalent for that back then.
The prices in Sydney, particularly Sydney central and the waterfront are generally inflated. Most other cities and tourist destinations are generally cheaper and it is a vast land with much to see and do. Alas most Americans tend to have just a couple of weeks vacation a year which limits what you can see. I hope you enjoyed your stay.
I live in Sydney, If I was your tour guide I could have made your $100 USD last for an entire week as I’m a local and know where to go and when. Tip: Google first to see if the tickets are cheaper online, rather than arriving at the venue or place and buying tickets. If you’re wondering why Sydney is expensive it’s because the government mandates that staff are paid a minimum wage which is usually substantially more than the minimum wage in the USA for the same job. For context there is numerous jobs available that pay more than $100,000 per year and you don’t need a college degree to get the role. A person simply emptying rubbish bins into a rubbish truck is paid more than $40 AUD per hour, as it’s a role that most people don’t want - which is why it pays highly.
So good to know! Thank you! We wanted to show places that most tourists would visit. We knew if you ventured out into the neighborhoods, things would be cheaper but maybe we come back and have you take us around! ❤❤
The most obvious things to do on a budget are the art galleries and museums which are free with the exception of special touring exhibitions which will probably cost around $20AU but that still leaves 80% of exhibits for free. The commuter ferries cost around $4.50AU which give you a leisurely tour of the harbour.
Thank you for all this info! I wish we were enjoyed museums because this would have been perfect 😍 I am not sure why we didn’t do the ferries, that would have been great!
I take it that breakfast was included at your hotel so you did not need to spend part of the $100USD on that? :) This is the second video of yours that I've watched. I found your YT channel as Sydney Australia is on my bucket list. Cheers! :)
😂😂 We loved the bin chickens! They were so funny and just minded their own business! Can't be mad at someone(something) trying to find something to eat!
You should tell your American audience that if they order an ‘Entree’ they will be served an appetiser / starter. In Australia the main meal is what most Americans refer to as an Entree, so order the ‘Main’, not the Entree. It comes from the French word for ‘Entered’ or ‘Entrance’ so it is the dish that starts the dining experience. Americans use the word differently to Aussies.
The only bin chickens I mainly see in Sydney are humans. Ibis birds are beautiful high flying majestic birds. If you leave your trash laying around you’ll not only get rats and humans scavenging but maybe an opportunistic ibis as well. They actually cleaning up after the human
There are actually people on the streets in Sydney and every other city in Australia, no shuttered shops or malls, let alone food outlets. Unlike the US which we wanted to visit, after seeing countless vlogs of the desolation in cities and towns, no thanks.
@samandnick do you mean the bus loads of people you're bringing in, causing your city to become so broke that you're cutting down on services, ie rubbish collection, local services - no thx.
you spend thousands getting here , then nickel and dime all the local costs and attractions. it reminds me of a lady i knew who went to rome on a budget. stayed out of town and didnt see the vatican or the colliseum because of the costs . whhattt !!!!

The Rocks only goes off at night.

@@samandnick Thank you for being really nice.
This was filmed six months ago? Why the delay in posting?
Hello there! Yes it was... we took a little break from our UA-cam channel for some life changes but we are back into it full swing!
How much did you actually spend? Was that for both of you? A ferry trip to Manly Beach is a great experience while in Sydney.
That was for both of us!
dont forget you are in the top cost area, lot cheaper in the suburbs.
That is very true!
Nice
Thanks!
Thumbs up just for pronouncing Circular Quay correctly
Shame about Pyrmont Bridge (pronouned “peermont”), though.
Lol so funny seeing foreigners talk about my home city. Bin chickens cause they’re always picking over the bin. That makes sense.

Just remember here in Australia no tipping

it costs what it costs , just enjoy your visit.

I thought they were good looking birds too!
Sydney is expen$ive, especially anywhere within a half mile of the Opera House. Tourist traps abound.
So true!
Why do Americans call the main course Entree ? Very strange.
😂 I don't know I have never thought about that
Pyrmont is pronounced Peer-mont
Thank you!

Sydney was crazy busy! Go check out NYC! You'll encounter quite a few more people than Sydney there 🙃
@samandnick do you mean the bus loads of people you're bringing in, causing your city to become so broke that you're cutting down on services, ie rubbish collection, local services - no thx.
I would eat Vietnamese, drink water from bubblers, spend the day at the beach and spend F.A..
Sounds like a perfect day! ❤
Sydney is now the land of dollars
