- Hoyoverse has changed HuoHuo's English voice actor. It's no longer Courtney Lin, now it’s Megan Shipman. The reason for this could be due to the strike. It's sad that so many English voice actor changed in this month in Honkai: Star Rail.

I think it's definitely something contract related, Argenti and Huohuo both got their voice changed and both released on the same patch... only one left untouched is Hanya.
Could possibly argue Argenti's started in 2.2 when they "misplaced" the files for his voice and didnt even fix it for 2.3

I recognize that both Mr. tail, and Huo Huo were different when I did the character trial, and tbh, it feels weird not to have the original VAs anymore and it now just feels uncanny to use Eng VA now.

@@QuinceyNightheart i don't think they got fired though? seeing how the localization company isn't part of the companies being struck by the movement. judging by how quiet it was, I feel like it was more so their decision to leave rather than HYV's decision because if it was then there should've been an announcement made. As far as I know, it's a gray area for voice actors right now because idk how it works but some aren't allowed to voice in some games because it's against the rules during the SAG AFTRA strike.
@@IlGreven HSR and ZZZ are in a gray area because GENSHIN is still a Hoyoverse Game w/ Formosa while HSR and ZZZ are fine but playing them would be treated as going over the fence to the other side and that's a big no-no.
I'm really concerned about all these changes.. especially because they wont explain the reasond why. July has not been a good month for us Star Rail players. I hope the best for all the VA's affected, losing a role must feel awful.

I was suspecting a contract issue with Argenti's VA, but now that we have a second VA replacement from the same patch, I'm almost convinced it's probably contract related. It's entirely possible that these 2 role were recorded in Beta as tests with the option to extend the VA's contracts later and one or the other party involved decided to just not renew. Which is why we had 2 patches of voiceless Argenti. Or it could be a plethora of other contract related issues. And usually if an actor can't record (say sick and has laryngitis) they often will get temporary recording from another VA that can imitate them and then replace later with the original VA. (hoyo did this for Diona's Hangout quest in Genshin. Xanglings VA stepped in until Dion's VA was available to record it.) So I wouldn't jump to nefarious conclusions.

@@HazZzel- Because the issues are completely different, with Diona's VA they knew for a fact that she'll be able to revoice all the lines later, with a contract breach or a contract expire, they legally cannot use the VAs performances anymore, and they can't just get rid of the voices all together because Hoyo might not be sure the VAs will be returning, so they had to hire new VAs to do the voices, if the old VAs renew the contract and are able to go back, then the old lines will also be back, if they can't or won't, then I assume the new VAs are here to stay, it doesn't always have to be something shady
@@lyras.9161fair, however its possible that theres an NDA and even if there wasn't, it is a bad idea to openly talk about these matters. Very little benifit of assuring players (who probably wont care, let alone do anything based off of knowing a VA has left) with the cost that if they were very open and then suddenly have to keep quiet, it becomes quiet obvious something cobtroversial happens.

I don't think it has anything to do with the strikes as the only striked game is Genshin due to Formosa, the agency handling the EN voice actors, being striked

I'm getting sick and tired of this. I don't have any issues with the VAs but I don't think I can get use to these new ones... also Tail too?! Huohuo was on thing but I really liked Tail's voice very much; one of the reasons why I pulled her especially during the event
The strike only affects projects and contracts established after the strike though because they didn't want everything to just crash to a halt
Biggest loss, can genuinely tell a change in this, her old voice is just so charming and pleasing to the ears. I believe her suffering way more.

I can say Megan did great job keeping it similar to Courtney's old voice acting as I had no clue there was a change
Honestly same, I've been using HuoHuo since her 1st banner and nearly didn't notice the change, I thought maybe the VA had to redo her lines bc Mr. Tail got replaced and then it sounded different, huge props to the VA honestly

People seem to hear the news and go in looking to dislike the new ones, for me as someone who uses Huohuo almost every fight since she came out I'm not positive I would've noticed but even watching the side by side I'm just sad for the old VA, but like the new one did her job and clearly tried her best. There's gonna be differences no matter what but for me it's not that deep, and it could've been way more obvious. Just because you can tell the difference doesn't mean the new VA did a horrible job and sounds "nothing alike". It's always been a messed up industry so this stuff happens constantly

I noticed like a good chunk of these va's changes for HSR have so far been characters that came out in 1.5 so I don't know maybe it's something related to strictly those characters maybe they brought in by a different agency

I noticed that too. I suspect it might be a contract issue or maybe they recorded as beta voices unsure of if they would be in the final game leading to their availability changing and the studio dropped the ball in getting replacements/new contract agreements because they thought they had enough time to work things out before new recordings were needed.

If I tell that some VAs possibly want to minimize their schedule, do you believe me? IT IS NOT ABOUT THE STRIKE, IT IS ABOUT THE SCHEDULE
If both parties are staying silent, that means either side made a huge mistake and knowing how reactive the community is, they chose to keep silent in the interest of not tarnishing their reputations. Which means, the issue is very divisive in nature. I am glad the VA's are keeping silent and not chasing their 5 min of fame like the Genshin VA's did recently.

@@xenoemblem7 when you own both characters and have them in your team for quite a while, you kind of form this bond with the character and their voice. Ghost changing their voices to whole new ones without any warning or announcement beforehand is just jarring to hear out of nowhere, and is also unprofessional on Hoyo’s end for not giving a heads up. They showed on the web page Argenti’s voice was different but HuoHuo’s was the same. Until the patch dropped, no one knew HuoHuo’s voice changed.
I’ve actually heard it’s the VA agency not Hoyo themselves as they hired a VA agency to hire VAs since their a Chinese based company and hiring non Chinese VAs as a Chinese citizen is difficult

Huohuo is one of my favorite characters and the moment I did her trial, I was shocked when her pitch was different. I like her old voice because it's really cute but now, I just don't feel it. No disrespect on the voice actor since they did their job but I just really like the old one.

I don’t think it’s because of the strike, because it usually takes time before these new voices are recorded/added to games. Most of the VA’s for these games, while not saying exactly when they were in the booth recording, tend to give a time frame of a few months/weeks. Strike started last week, but Argenti’s VA has essentially been missing from a few months of patches. To me that means they had decided a while ago to replace at least his VA (for whatever reason) and were likely auditioning/recording the new va’s in that time. Probably the same for Huohuo, we just didn’t know because her character hasn’t popped up in game since she first dropped/her event.

Same. I had just triple crowned him a month before that fiasco happened as well. There's a few lines I still find too inferior to the original. I just liked the voice being different than the expected nerd voice. Though he does sound a lot better in places outside his main lines, like his TCG lines feel almost natural.

Alright. I'm switching to JP voices. First, Argenti's new wooden voice and now both Huo Huo and Tail changed? I'm not gonna be caught listening to this uncanny nightmare. I hope something gets leaked so we can know what happened. While it may not be related to the strike, I have a feeling it's still related to pay. I stand with any striking worker and any worker trying to negotiate better pay, and I wish the old voice actors the best.
I highly doubt the recast had anything to do with the strike due to the timeframe. It takes (at minimum) weeks to recast an actor (this usually entails sending out more auditions to agents), schedule enough sessions to record all their lines, and then record, edit, and mix all that audio. Given that both affected characters were released in the same patch and and both affected actors seem to be under NDA but on good terms with Hoyo (as of now), I'd put my money on this being a contract/agency issue. There are many reasons an actor can potentially be recast that don't reflect poorly on them, like contract or agency issues, illness, maternity/paternity leave, family emergency, etc. TL;DR: It is highly unlikely the recasts were the fault of the affected actors or for any negative reason, I will miss their performances greatly, but changing your game's language purely because of this doesn't really make any sense.

So now not only Mr. Tail but also Huo Huo has been changed VA, which is sad news, but at least they completed their work before leaving, which is a good thing.

not their fault, they hired a company to hire the VAs for them, probably some contract problems appeared and either they changed said company or the VAs had to sadly be replaced. It's probably the dubbing company fault
Hoyo doesn't directly hire voice actors. They go through a company that hires them FOR them. So blame the va company.

Hiring abusers, having their VA's talk on subjects that get them into trouble, and now randomly changing VA's? Hsr needs to get their act together fr. I hope they don't change anyone else

When I used my Argenti team after I found this out I literally thought my phone broke. I did not expect them to have different voices 😢
For me, it became a very sad and sad story all these replacements of the original VAs, seemingly made out of nowhere. For what? Why should we lose such colorful voices and such wonderful actors who are loved by millions of players? This is a very disappointing circumstance for me, although I have already stopped believing that all these replacements occur for adequate reasons.
I always rock with the JP VAs purely because two of them voiced other characters I liked and a certain character just sounds right with the JP voice than the other ones.

The Japanese and Mandarin dubs are more emotive. Just read the subtitles. It’s a whole lot less cheesy sounding.

I don't think so, the strike only affects Genshin because of the agency they go through for their voice acting, HSR and ZZZ are not part of the strike
The strike wouldn't have anything to do with this as it just started last week
I feel bad that they're replacing the VAs like they are, but I am happy that they were able to find people who sounded extremely similar to the original voices.
I do hope that those who have been replaced (replaced for normal things, not like the one dude who abused people or something) are able to either come back to their roles later, or are able to voice another character in the game. Feels a bit shitty that they brought the character to life and were then replaced.
Since both affected characters were released in the same patch and neither actor seems to be able to give any details but seem to be on good terms with Hoyo still, it's almost certain this was contract related and not due to anything negative on their part.

@@keneunaegbu851ong I myself don’t own the characters but have played against the Argenti boss and has used my friend’s Argenti and Huohuo as support and immediately felt the difference in tone.
