We have owned many two cycle Detroit Diesel engines. The the first number is for the number of cylinders, the second number is for the cubic inches per cylinder. It fired on every stroke, hence it sounded like they ran twice as fast. They were good starters in the cold, cheap to overhaul, parts were available. The 53 series max RPM was 2500 0r 2800 they really screamed. On the 61 series the operating range was 1800 to 2100 RPM. We had a truck with a 6V92 with a blower and turbo, it was economical to run with about 300 HP and about 1,000 pounds of torque.
We put in a 12v. From a 3500 dodge into are old Farmall tractor plus a different trans pulls like a champion an 37 on turbo allday. Love that old tractor
What a cool piece of equipment, love these tractors which are customised by farmers 😎 Love the sound At least it have a some kind of muffler, could be even louder without one...
Wow old farm tractor with a Detroit motor never heard that before. But sure. Sound great and also 10 speed transmission wow keep old tractor in farm for many more years to come👈
It isn’t,really that bad of a job to operate it, just painful without ear plugs, better job than some things we used to do like operating northwest draglines with all those long levers.
I ran a couple Detroit Diesel powered pieces of equipment, a JD 440 with a 2-53 and an Euclid loader with a 4-71. Headphone hearing protection is necessary for the operator at all times. I see lots of the old commercial fishing boats running Jimmy diesels on Lake Superior. You can hear them miles away. Simple engines that will run forever. Just don't shut them down hot.
The road ranger was installed by my father machining a large plate to cover the hole in the rear end where the allis transmission bolted up.there is a huge open universal joint between there and the road ranger that connects the two together. No pto on this tractor now which is fine as I just use it to pull implements 5 or 6 days a year. Not going to buy a new green one for five days a year.
Yes, the light switch is just that and I don,t remember what I was doing with the Johnson bar. I intend to get both brakes working this winter. The tractor lives outside and the weather takes a toll including seizing stuff up.
Well, it isn't the prettiest thing I ever saw but, I bet it never left you sit because of an electro-computer brain fart. And there's no payment book to go with it.
@@vintageequipment3768 I will say I do appreciate people that make what they need to get the job done. Hats off to that. There is a reason I would know how tough a day it would be on something like that. I almost lost my ears one summer driving too long with my ears uncovered. That’s where I learned cowboy hats weren’t for looks.
That is a good train of thought, my father was never into ascetics although some things he built did have a “factory” look to them, this tractor not being one of them. Most of his builds did function and did the work he intended them to.
Resale depends on the current market for scrap metal. Not trying to show off with these videos, just showing what we're working with, warts and all. Hope you were at least slightly entertained by this beast. Thanks for watching!
That's exactly what it's supposed to sound like. You drive Detroits like you are mad at them. It's supposed to turn no more than 2500 rpm and, under load, no less than 2100 rpm.
A 2 stroke sounds like it is running twice as fast as a regular 4 stroke diesel. Those engines did not like to be lugged down, 2200 rpm or so sounds super fast but is normal operating speed.
That thing is a beast! These one-off farmweld type of creations are the coolest in my opinion. Hats off to the guy that made it, just too cool.
I have nothing but Respect for this guy! He is a Real farmer! Not like so many of these Pretty boy "farmers" now days.
Runs awesome!
@Garnet Holman being productive and making a profit is evil don't you know?

Wow I’m glad you are posting again. Awesome machine! Keep the videos coming 👍
I bet it dose talk when she walks 😱
🤣😂🤣 10 speed roadranger 👍
that sucker sounds great 😲
The Detroit were awesome engines. Ahead of their time I think. Just absolute BEASTS. Awesome sound and awesome horsepower.
What an awesome machine

Yeah buddy! Just a basic get it done machine, no fluff just tuff!👍👍
good job there i love it
If it works it ain't wrong.

Looks like Picasso designed it but oh my that detroit sound is soooo 👌👌
I thing someone making a beast like that is ausome just take whatever is around and make it work
Don't mind the mule, just load the wagon! I love it!
I get it does the job , but it looks absolutely torturous to drive . Sounds good though
It's torturous indeed!

Got a video of my JD 440 on my page if you want to walk down memory lane! Neighbors know when I am running it!
Loud, Ugly,Rusty, Cobbled Together, Allis & GM, Diesel Fueled .........
I'm Jealous, I Love It
👍
That thang is mean 😎
Madmax farmer lover👍
Sounds cool!
Glad that I don't have to sit behind it!
Sloped hood and exposed rad are clearly 18 extra mph w the aero! looks like the price was right!!!! very cool
It sounds like the radio is on even when it isn't
front axle looks like its out of a truck. or is it original?
Oliver 99 had 471 GMC two strokes.
Nice creation.
How u out a road ranger trans under there ?

@@vintageequipment3768 excellent 👍
farmer would always know that his hired hands were a workin, cause could hear them from afar
I'm guessing that the light switch is just that,, a light switch? And the Johnson bar is for the brakes?

Worlds first tractor "Rat Rod".
Мечта КИРГИЗА
Is that a 671?
Yes
Oh LORD🤦♂️
Makes a guy wonder why they still don't produce these engines ?
Emissions compliance, those old 2 stroke Detroits would never pass any sort of emissions compliance these days.
Well, it isn't the prettiest thing I ever saw but, I bet it never left you sit because of an electro-computer brain fart. And there's no payment book to go with it.
When you gotta use stuff like that it’s time re think careers. That thing would make for a miserable day,not to mention dangerous.
Maybe time to start a merch store and live off the spoils.
@@vintageequipment3768 At least you would still have your hearing

Doesn't have to be pretty to get the job done.
Not planning on entering it in any beauty pageants.
My God, some people should not be allowed to posses welders and torches

Poor 220. I don't mind people being creative with their equipment but this is just an abomination.
Your opinion I think is quite valid, my neighbours call it the Franken tractor.
couple of brakes,,,, one of which actually works,,,, brakes are for wusses anyways
Wow, what a hack job I'd be embarrassed to show the rest of the world , how's the resale value?

@@vintageequipment3768 just breaking balls, I commend you for putting a muffler on it, I'm sure it has the most important feature ( paid for).
It ain't pretty,but wow!
Sorry, but that's plain ugly! At least kinze made his conversations look good.
Doesn't need to look good if it works, not everyone has time to make a show tractor. Have you ever built a tractor with a truck drivetrain? Doubt it.
@@haydendeberg2092 I've never mutilated a decent machine but I have rebuilt oem engines back to spec.
@@diersirrigation I'd say props to his dad for making what was probably a derelict truck useful again on a tractor with a bad engine. Ugly or not
You may think its ugly, but it was not built to look pretty. It was built to do a job and that's what it does.
Too High RPM for that engine !!!!! Noisy and not good for it.
You never heard a 2 stroke before?

This machine has done countless hours of work over many decades. Maybe we'll get lucky enough that it will blow up and the torture can stop!
You must not be familiar with Detroits...
non good tractor FRANCE !
Allis Chalmers won’t pull a greasy string out of a cats ass.
But I like your machine. 👍
Thanks! Fortunately we're not in the cat business.
