When I was a kid we had 2 small cab over hay hauler trucks both had 8-V92 Detroit’s. They were power houses but if you kept your foot in the throttle while climbing big mountains they would start blowing sparks out and set the hay on fire. Both had a super charger but also had 2 turbos. The tag on the motors said 675 hp. We ran the guts out of those motors. Years and years.
seen this conversion before up in Manitoba in a AC4W305….DD8V92T….running through a modified Eaton the standard transmissions couldn’t handle it…430hp at the front…don’t know what was coming through the PTO…all professionally done…no leaks….you could hear this thing from over a kilometre away…
that is about the coolest thing i have seen in a long time!!!!! how hard was it to swap in the detroit, and how was it held up since? are you satisfied with it?
The crank broke on the 426 and we had the Detroit for a spare for our grain truck. But we had sold the grain truck so we used the Detroit in the Allis Chalmers
20 speed Power-Director transmission There's a High-Low range you shift into when stopped. 5 gears you can shift into on the go via finessing the throttle n clutch. Finally high-low buttons on the floor you stomp on on the go. It ain't as simple to operate as the AC's 12 speed PowerShift, but it's a bulletproof transmission nonetheless.
Robert Peter, do you have a Detroit 6-71?? Or have you ever run one ? I have one in a 73 GMC dump truck and it is very fuel efficient. And it is not my only or first DD engine. You need to know what your talking about before you comment BS .
festus51 no i dont own one, nor do i want to, yes i have driven many of them in dump trucks primarily, up to the big 8v92t. that was a fun one eith over 550hp on tap,i could run down the biggest cats on the hill building log roads with ease. However 3mpgat the best on road economy with off toad more like gallons per mile meant i got to go home early on some jobs because i did not have enough fuel to do 2 more loads like all the other trucks. 100 gallons a day vs every one elses 50 or so = They SUCK FUEL LIKE NONE OTHER lol!lut to mention you go deaf if your within 100 yards of them!
all vehicles should have a Detroit. what a wonderful world it would be
I'd personally like to see more tractors powered by Cat. An 8550 powered by a Cat 3406 would be so awesome
Nellson Stout Not a Cat C-series.
thegreenerthemeaner well no. One without all the electronics
We'd all be deaf and loving it

Wow that's awesome.
Love that sound !!!
That sounds great!!!!
Love the beginning where I can see a glimpse of the detroit under the hood
Great sound love those old detroit
This sound is just amazing!!!
I would love to have that tractor that sounds awesome
that is about the coolest thing i have seen in a long time!!!!! how hard was it to swap in the detroit, and how was it held up since? are you satisfied with it?
Man nothing like a screaming Detroit
Alot of more interesting then hearing the 426cid that powered that and the 7080
That's awesome it sounds like a nightmare!
awesome
bad ass tractor
God when he takes off up the road mmmmmm
thats cool my dad put a ford 444t engine in a Allis Chalmers 6080 tractor
looks cold outside
Totally bad ass
Yeah, that does sound awesome. Now if only I could get my little 85hp Deutz AgroFarm to sound like that!
Now that's rare
Put a Detroit in it then obviously!
Looks like a straight 4 to me boys
@1466benjamin Why did you put a Detroit in it? Love the sound.. and Thanks..
AC 426 equals junk, they didn't handle any HP over 160

whaaaaat yaa got in theeeeere. lmao haha
671?
Is it a 6i-71?
How do you shift these tractors , can you shift on the go ?

6-71? turbo or natural?
bad ass 6-71
Sounds mean!
Ha ha! That's fkn funny!
What is the man saying at 1:48 ?
6-71
deffenetly NA
Is a 6-71 ?? If it is it should not be that slow NA6-71 is 238 hp turbo and injectors you could easy be 350hp ,
I woulda gone with the cummins instead of the 2 stroker Detroit
У нас похожые трактора есть т-150 ХТЗ и намного тише работают
I’m not a fan of those Detroits. No torque like a turbo 4 stroke. I’d have used a Cummins 8.3.
except the fuel economy sucks with the 2cycle diesel, and no low rpm torque
