I'm about to attempt this repair when the parts arrive in a few days. Thanks for the tutorial! My ford edge is a 2010, and has 381,198 miles on it! 😲 😱 The engine runs like a top still, and doesn't burn oil. These are great vehicle's if you take care of them but like any car things wear out and need replaced sometimes.
Tha k you for this. Saved me money and hours helping a friend with a lincoln mkx that had hard pedal and squeal under dash when pressing the brakes. It helped me to remove the line for the evap from the throttle body.
Just did this on a 2013 ford edge with the help of this video, the only difference is you have to take off the bolt connecting the fuse box to push the master cylinder a little further down and it will come out
Good job see you next year when you have to do it again. Every year I have to keep replacing mine either the booster goes bad or the cylinder goes bad and Firestone charges $800 to get the job done. My brake pedal is rock hard when I press mine and when it finally goes down it’s make like a balloon letting air out noise or a hissing noise.
Thanks super informative video I'm a novice working on cars for 30 years however I did the R&R in 2 hours I did have about 30 minutes wasted time I didn't have as much room on the brake lines as you did master cylinder was wedged up against top i still managed to get Booster out with brute force lol the new one going in was much easier just about 3 or 4 minutes. I didn't replace my actuator switch brake pedal was not depressing it was super easy fix tho. I just bent the bracket that the activator switch is on and it got it closer to engage with pedal problem solved. I topped brake fluid off because my reservoir was at the minimum line brakes were perfect now. No hissing sound or loss of pressure in the booster
NO IDEA how you did this without taking off the intake, or at least moving it! I struggled for a good hour and a half trying to get the booster out when I finally said screw it and loosened the 7/8 bolts and moved the intake. What should have taken me 2 hours tops took me 4 hours. For anyone reading this that’s planning to do this, unscrew the bolts for the intake. It will save you SO MUCH time!!
@@Sweepemofftheporchwithbroom I didn't. No real reason to if you move it carefully. It's funny, I wasn't sure if I should so I called a friend of mine who's a mechanic to get his opinion and he said I'm good. I've been driving the Edge for a few weeks now and all is good! Good luck man!
I just replaced mine today and its not neccesary to take the intake off you just have to turn it sideways and rotate it back and forth to clear the bolts past the mass airflow sensor you probably just didnt bend the master cyclinder over enough into the right position thats all lol
I did mine without the intake just took the battery and the breather out and disconnected the throttle, throttle body for Baltimore both satisfied, put it in for the master racer back on fired right back up
I'm going to give it a shot , I'll let you know how it comes out, thank you for your video and wish me luck because I'm not even a mechanic but I'm going to try, I'll get back,Thx.
I highly recommend buying a brake switch as well when doing the brake booster I changed mine and ended up having to buy a new switch other wise your brake lights stay on all the time
I have a 2007 ford edge sel awd the booster was going out pedal would be rock hard half the time or it would be working normally then when stopped at a light holding the brake the engine would start choking like it wanted to die from the bad boosters vacum leak i just went and got a new one and replaced it and it took me less than 2 hours from beginning to end it was pretty easy actually i thought ot qould be alot harder after all the complaints but it took some work rotating it out without damaging any other lines and what not but it came right out like i said less than 2 hours lol
That is the most knowledgeable thing he said I'd rather take my time this is your life this is your brakes. That's right there can't be no room for error
I just replaced the brake booster on a 2007 Ford Edge. Great video! I got one from Advance Auto but the booster rod was too short, so had to do the job again with Ford OEM booster. Paid $311 with tax. Pep Boys wanted to charge me $850, so saved myself over $500. I do have a problem with the stop light switch though. Mine is too short, just like yours. The switch works but my stop lights are constantly on. I ended up buying 3 replacement switches (1 from Advance Auto, 1 from Amazon, and 1 from Ford OEM directly) and none of them work!!! I plug them in and nothing happens. The stop lights should turn on right away, but they don't. This is so frustrating and now I will probably have to take the car in to Ford to see what is going on.
That part number is most likely for just the back half of the case as the one i just changed has a similar number on it aswell the decals could of came off over time
Muito obrigado por compartilhar seu conhecimento, estou fazendo este mesmo serviço em um veículo similar no Brasil e seu vídeo me ajudou muito. Saudações do Brasil 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
@MRn1t3mare07 I got it in it took forver but kept wiggling if around and turning it and it went in. I bent the braided steel lines to the side too. It goes it but it'd annoying . Probably easier to just take the intake off
@@jennajone45 Yea, finally got mine in earlier. I said "screw it" and linked 5 zip ties together and zipped it down, lol. Went in no problem. Snipped em and actually lined up on the back of the pedal just fine. Now I just have to bleed the brakes on the morning.
Okay what would that make it be at if we changed all the boosters and it still ain't got no brakes without changed everything I put brake booster Masterson whatever you want and still no brakes without pumping them 4 to 5 times
Please help and please respond. I changed break booster. Breaks work but break lights won't shut off. I bought a new switch since the other was broken, but the new one doesn't reach the pedal. Please help
What did you end up doing? I’m stuck at that point now. Changed the booster, put it all back together, and the brake lights stay on. New switch, same problem.
did this on a 2013 and no way it will come out like that, had to pull intake, but its pretty simple and reusing same gaskets. This booster has already been replaced onece before and car under 115k miles, junky desiged parts i guess
After watching this video this past Saturday, I told myself it doesn't look that hard to do ,so I gave it a shot , that was the biggest mistake I ever made ,everything that could go wrong went wrong , and the video is very deceiving because it is edited to make it look easy when in fact , it is very hard to remove the booster , you have to take apart half the moter just to remove it and it takes two people to complete the job, yes, I finished the job on my car but would never try this again ,it was a nightmare.
Dont do that.... dont bad mouth someone because you couldnt do the job with the same results the only problem is that you most likely dont really know what your doing and tried somthing you shouldnt have i did this replacement today and it was very easy after watching this it took me 1 hour and 40 mins to do the whole thing and i took my time the people on here complaining just didnt do it correctly thats all there is to it
Sounds as if you also have trouble tying your shoes. A man must know his limitations. Perhaps you should just leave the mechanical alone. Obviously, you are not mechanically inclined.

@Alexis Arriaga I ended up hav8 g a shop do it after I replaced the check valve. I would say they need to be bleed, but did you check the check valve?
Rob, did the same process last month on my wife's '07 edge. Great video

Sounds like they are using a junk part and charging you new price.
Mine just failed 14 years and 127,000 miles later. I’ll buy right so I don’t have to buy twice.
Thanks from NC followed your video and did it my self you really helped my family and saved me hundreds of dollars

Any videos on how to replace window sills ? I cant find anywhere that shows how its done .thanks
Thankd
how do you compress it
You dont just bolt it on
Thanks man!
The break switch has a setting to make it longer. You don't need a new one.
Great video, this job sucked for me. Patients is a must
How.did u compress the booster thats my issue right now. I got mine out without remving and intake and back in but i wont compress to go in.
I'm hoping to find that same answer.

You dont need to compress the booster what are you talking about????? Just bolt it in and connect it to the pedal
Buddy would the brake pedal be real hard also she almost like won't stop 2 footer pedal right now and cars stahling now
So is all manufactured booster made for ford or what? How does brake cylinder go bad?
Only when you pump it 4 *time what would that make it be if we changed all that

It’s a brake switch that helps your rear lights come on
Okay I change the booster and all that up there all that snow and still ain't got no brakes
