Imo 2020 was the best! That defense was stellar. We were only getting better when they called the rest of the season off. They were bound for the natty!
    Richard from Kansas;)

That was a good ranking and pretty accurate to where I would put them. I would put the 2022 team higher but only because they won a National Championship. I forgot how good the 2010 and 2011 teams were. Makes it more disappointing that they didn’t make it to the final four.

that 2011 fluke loss to VCU still hurts..all that team had to do was beat VCU, BUTLER and an average UCONN team...and they less a scrub VCU punch them in the mouth....when Smart got to Texas I always joked that id trade 5 wins vs Texas for 1 E8 vs VCU LOL

The 2008 National Champs should definitely be ranked number one of the Self era. I would love to see that team go up against one of my other favorite KU basketball team of all time: the 96 Jayhawks. That team did not win the National Championship, but they were LOADED. Pierce, LaFrentz, Haase, Vaughn, and Pollard. My favorite matchup? Brandon Rush vs. Paul Pierce.

2008 team was clearly his best team . 37-3 national champions beat two #1 seeds in the final four and national championship. What other team did Self have that was as good as that. Outside that the 2020 team, the 2009-11 teams were really good.

Self's teams are always the best when he doesn't necessarily have blue-chip talent, but but he can keep a core of players multiple years and coach them up.... 2022, 2012, and of course, 2008 are prime examples. Self's teams woefully underwhelm when they rely on blue-chip and one-and-dones.

I lived in 510C a couple years then 610D my last year, I worked there too. So I always had a view of Allen Fieldhouse from the bedroom window. It was nice. Also, had bats in my room more than once. I almost said 'with the window open'. But then I thought about a bat getting in any other way and I just thought, 'yeah, no.' Ding, you know that noise the elevator makes? Imagine a bat getting off that thing. The cigarette probably would have fallen out of your mouth just then if you smoked.

Self’s first team in 2004 almost made history because they they almost made KU have a 3 peat Final Four appearance. KU made the Final Four in 2002, 2003…..and almost in 2004. Kansas lost in OT to Georgia Tech in the Elite Eight. 3 straight Final Fours would have been awesome. In the OT period against Georgia Tech, junior Keith Langford was nailed with a phantom 5th foul which may have cost KU a trip to the Final Four. Replays showed Langford didn’t foul at all. The same exact thing happened to Langford the previous year in the 2003 National Championship game versus Syracuse. In that game, Langford was called for a 5th foul. Replays showed he didn’t even touch the Syracuse player.

If this wasn’t just win percentage. I would put the 2020 team as number 2 behind 2008. Purely one of the most dominant teams college basketball had seen in over a decade. An unstoppable force in the paint. Some of the most elite perimeter defense in college basketball history. You had every facet of the court covered. If it wasn’t for the unfortunate events of Covid KU would of dogwalked everyone in the tournament

2010, 2011, 2013 are all years we could of won a championship. Really should of got 1 out of those years. In 2010 lot of top teams got upset including KU and Butler went to the title game same in 2012. 2013 still hurts. Blew 8 point lead to Michigan with 38 seconds left after we brought Elijah back in when Taylor had kept the game under control. Michigan got to the final and lost.

@@derekmathews1557I agree that was his "Best Team" in terms of stats/numbers/lol hardware• The 2007-08 Hawks•
But in terms of imo his best team? In terms depth and talent? 2009-11 KU teams•
      * That 2011 Elite8 Jayhawks team had the "2012 National Runners Up" cming off tha bench! Lol
#1seed Kansas Jayhawks in 2011 NCAA Tournament should've won Title "#4•" Honestly 2010 & 2011 Tournaments we were most likely best team in country•8
KU in 2011 walked to Elite8. VCU hit 15-18 3pointers but still no excuse. Freaking weakest FF's in Modern Day Tournament• 2010\2011 FFS
I've been saying since 08 "once Self gets the hardest? #2 National Title? Floodgates..."
I truly believe Self give us 15 more seasons as head coach? KU has at min 6 maybe 7 Chips• Self WILL retire with 4 at minimum• But I'm feeling 5! Who's left in coaching? K/Roy & Jay Wright? GONE! 1/ Self 2/ Izzo 3/Cal 4/S Drew• In a sport where imo? Head Coaching has the most IMPACT on the final score than ANY OTHER sport• (pro or college•)
Cuz u and I both know knowing KU's ten game National Championship history!?!?
We should have easy at least 6 right now! Lol prob more...
I mean c'mon Wilt Chamberlin!!! 3 OT LOSS to UNC in 1957.
1pt loss IU in 1953 (KU would been b2b Champs!)
No Wayne Simien %37 FT in 2003 3pt loss to Cuse.
2012 we had no business even making it that far.Great starting 5 but UNC & Ohio St were much better teams that yr. But we've had best X's & O's Head Coach since 2003...in the country.
Best In-Game Adjuster maybe All-Time! ( not kidding....)
Then that 2012 UK team was outstanding because those 3 upperclassmen withdrawed fr 2011 Draft due to 2011 NBA Lockout!
Yes Davis & Kidd-Gillchrist were great froshmen. But when UK got back those 3 upperclassmen in Jones/Lamb Miller? UK was best team in country by Feb 1st 2012. Those 3 upperclassmen combined for 50ppg that season. Those 3 were GONE if not for the 2011 NBA Lockout!
Then Calipari "hit" on those 2 Freshmen who were plying like Jrs by Selection Sunday 2012.
But 2011-12 Kentucky Championship is entirely based on 2011 NBA Lockout•
No WAY in hell does Calipari have even ONE CHAMPIONSHIP without those 3 upperclassmen returning!
No way would Davis/Kidd-Gillchrist been enuff•

@@bellahoughton84, you said a mouthful but I agree with you. I think that’s way haters get on us as much as they do because they know the same thing as we do. That this Kansas program should definitely have at least 6 or 7 titles easily. Way too much talent in this program to have only 4 titles. 4 titles is not bad but Kansas should be winning way more. Honestly winning more titles and making final fours is the only thing that Kansas needs to do MORE of. They got ALL the credentials expect those two. I see Ku winning title #5 and #6. We could do back to back depending on the team they have this year. 2003 definitely should have won if we don’t miss 18 free throws. I agree that 2012 team should have never made it that far but Self is incredible at Xs and Os and adjusting. He is really good at that. The adjustments made in the 2022 title game were way obvious. That 2020 team I’m almost positive wins the national championship if the tournament had been played. 1997-2002 all national championship possible winning teams. Roy Williams not winning a national championship with that amount of talent in 15 years was astonishing made him actually look overrated for a minute. And I’ve never said that about any coach Kansas has had. Bill Self though is easily the greatest Kansas Jayhawk coach with 2 titles, 4 final fours, and about 16 conference titles. 9 conference tournament titles. Bill Self should honestly have 4 or 5 titles himself right now though but I understand it’s a very hard thing to do.

I think Self 2 worst teams were the 2005 team lead by Simien...they had no outside shooting..they still had no business losing Bucknell..and the 2019 team lead by Dedric Lawson, USC had every right to crush them...if Lawson was off, the team would lose..on paper and based on pure talent, that 2013 team shouldnt have been very good either..but yet, because Self is who he is, he coaxed a roster that should have won 20 games into a team that won 30+ games, went to the S16 and was a lucky half court 3 (thanks to EJ missed FTs on the other end) from Michigans Burke from another E8 trip

    • @derekmathews1557
      @derekmathews1557 2 роки тому

I actually agree! That 2005 was terrible. No outside shooting whatsoever. The 2018-2019 team was not good either. USC beat us down like a pulp. We had no size. That 2012-2013 team was kind of like a rag tag team full of players and Kansas somehow won 30 games, won the Big 12 regular season title, made the final four and made it to the title game. That’s ALL Selfs coaching ability you are right there.
