I have a theory: the Evil Queen was Snow White's real mother, as demonstrated by the considerable physical resemblance. Snow White grew up to be an equally powerful witch, but being Snow White, made entirely different use of her magic, creating beauty to help other people. She became queen and became the "Fairy Godmother" in her old age, since being beloved of her people, and a queen, it simply wouldn't be suitable to call her a witch.
I like that theory (especially Snow White having magical abilities)! However, the movie does make it pretty clear the Evil Queen married into the throne and wasn't Snow White's biological mom. However, we aren't ever told that Snow White's father the king didn't have magic and Snow White could have been blessed by fairies at birth like Aurora was so there is still a possibility she has some kind of magical abilities/connection.

I apologize in advance for my long rant/theory of Mother Gothal. This video didn't even sway my opinion in the slightest. The apple at the end wasn't from blood it was from paint. I think that Mother Gothal's true identity is Medea from the Greek stories of the famous Argonaut Jason. I know that Mother Gothal is Greek because of one of the lines from the healing incantation. If you remember, at the beginning of the movie it shows that she was the one who came up with the lyrics, not Rapunzel. The lyrics that show she's Greek are 'Change the Fates design'. The Fates were the triplet daughters of Zeus and the Titaness Themis(Maybe. I know that it's one of the T names. There are three of those). When they were born they immediately became shriveled little grannies. They would knit and when they snipped the string, some mortal life would come to an end. The gods quickly discovered that they not only could see the future, but they could also control it as well. This ties into the 'Fates design' part of the lyrics. We don't officially know it but Mother Gothal has done somethings that would have had to be done by magic. In the reprise of 'Mother Knows Best' fog starts to come into the clearing and when Mother Gothal leaves, the fog goes with her and stops far enough away that her and the other guys can see Flinn and Rapunzel but they couldn't see them. Mother Gothal knew exactly where they were in that scene as well and it never really tells us how she found them. We can see from this scene that Mother Gothal may have had some experience with men acting like they're interested in her, but only because they wanted something that only she could provide. In the story of Jason, Medea helped Jason do everything that her father had wanted him to do, in order to help get Jason the golden fleece, A ram skin that could heal anything and make lands prosper. Jason never would have gotten the golden fleece if it weren't for Medea's help, but years later, Jason was very unhappy with being married to Medea, which was her price for helping him retrieve the fleece in the first place. He left her to marry the princess of the kingdom they were staying at. Then next time Jason came home was because he was being chased by an angry mob after the princess died from her wedding dress which had poison lining the inside. The dress had been a gift from Medea but when Jason got there he found Medea standing over the dead bodies of their two sons with a knife. She said that that was his punishment for breaking his promise of staying with her forever. We see this in the fact that Mother Gothal is completely fine with murder when it comes to something that she wants. Another example of this in Medea's story is when they were sailing away from her father's kingdom. She called a flag of truce and her brother came on their ship. Medea killed her brother and the crew in a panic killed his guards. They started to sail away and this is the point when Jason realized that he had agreed to marry a crazy person. As they sailed, Medea chopped up her brother into little pieces and threw his parts overboard. The army that was following them had to stop to find all of him because back then it was believed that your soul would be trapped on earth if you weren't buried with all of your body. If this evidence isn't enough for you then I don't know what to tell you. Signs that point to Mother Gothal being Medea: 1. Their both Greek 2. They both have magic 3. They both may or may not have guy issues 4. They're both absolutely fine with cold-blooded murder 5. They are both creepy beyond reason 6. Neither takes broken promises very well 7. Neither works well with others 8. Both are(or should be)wanted for murder and theft/kidnapping 9. They are both too evil for words 10. They're both young beautiful women(Did in not mention that Medea was stunningly beautiful as well as creepy(Mother Gothal in appearance)) 11. They both guarded something that could keep you healthy/young(I think that the place where the flower grew was the place where the Ram was sacrificed and its blood created rich soil that the flower grew from) 12. Both will do whatever it takes to get what they want The flower was said to be "A hop, skip, and a boat ride away." Medea originated from Colchis, the farthest the Greeks had ever traveled and the end of the known world. The kingdom of Corona is in Germany. A hop to Poland, a skip to Ukraine, and a boat ride to the border between modern-day Turkey and Georgia. My theory is that Medea went back home after her husband, King Aegeus of Athens had the guards chase her out of the palace for trying to kill his only son Theseus(Theseus was really Poseidon's son but who cares about stuff like that when you're a king who's dying who hasn't had any kids)after he came to the palace to tell him of his parentage. When she finally arrives years later(Trips that far take a very long time)she finds that she is getting old and weak, and knows that her life is going to end soon. Then while walking she sees this golden flower and that it's glowing and the plants around it are much greener than the rest. She, having once been a priestess of the goddess of magic, Hecate, instantly knows that it can help her, sensing that it has the power of the fleece she once helped to guard. She starts to sing to herself and finds that during her song, her voice became younger, her hair darker and more luscious, and her body less wrinkly and full of aches. She knows that she has become young again. To prevent what happened last time she better guards this gift, and comes back many times to sing to it as she discovers that, if she's away from it too long, she starts to become her real age. She guards this flower for centuries until the knights of Corona find and take the flower to aid the sick queen. She secretly follows the search party back to Corona by blending in with the commoners heading back to the kingdom. Too weak to steal the flower back she waits until she hears that the queen had eaten the flower and had a daughter. She knows that the daughter will have the properties of the flower and sneaks into the castle in the dead of night when the guards are being switched out and tries to take some hair from the child but quickly finds out that it isn't going to be so easy. She kidnaps the child and I'm sure you all know the rest. That's what I think and who I think Mother Gothal really is. Once again, I'm sorry for such a long comment and I congratulate anyone who has gotten this far.

I respectfully disagree with this theory. Gothel does not even look similar to the evil queen. The queen has green eyes, while Gothel has grey/bluish eyes. The queen has arched eyebrows, while Gothel has normal eyebrows. The queen has straight black hair (it's revealed during her transformation into the old hag), while Gothel has curly hair. Gothel has a hooked nose, while the queen's nose is straight. Gothel's body is very curvy with big breasts, while the queen's body seems thinner and with average breasts. Also, the Queen is more serious, cold and emotionless, while Gothel is all over the place, with a sassy, dramatic and teathrical personality.
Those are great points, but since Gothel has dark magic, and spiritual abilities with herbs, plants, and other things, she may have wanted to be a better version of herself. I know it’s only a movie, and we all are being so theoretical, but since Gothel has always been into alchemy, she can change parts of herself, that she want to be more beautiful. Bigger booty, big breasts, curvy yet slender.

I don't think Gothel harvested that magical flower, there is another theory that Te Fiti in Moana created those magical flowers because one of them were shown in a scene while Moana was climing up a mountain, then the magical flowers got endangered and the last one left was used by Rapunzel's mother to give birth

(It shows if you look up the scene of her creating the Peddler’s Disguise.) So, there you go. Her hair isn’t dark brown, and neither is Gothel’s.

The evil queen only made herself look old to disguise herself as an old woman to trick Snow White into eating the poisoned apple, I'm pretty sure that if the evil queen didn't die and had made it back to the castle, she would've transformed back into her beautiful self, also Mother Gothel didn't really have any powers in tangled, she used the golden flower to make herself look younger which is why she kidnaps Rapunzel since when Rapunzel's mother was pregnant she drank this soup thing with the golden flower in it therefore transferring the powers of the golden flower to Rapunzel''s hair, so Mother Gothel kidnaps Rapunzel she can stay young and beautiful using Rapunzel's magical hair, both the evil queen and Mother Gothel went to extreme measures like how Mother Gothel kidnaps a princess and the evil queen plotting to kill her own step daughter for the sake of their own beauty, which is one of the strongest reasons fans theorize that Mother Gothel and the evil queen are the same person which I personally believe.

He could not view Cinderella’s successes as her own because she was not her’s, and tremaine knew that Cinderella had qualities that everyone knew lady tremaine didn’t have. Mother Gothel was evil but she treated Rapunzel well. She cared for her. She surprised her. She made her happy. She consoled her when she was sad. She never even thought of hurting her. Had she been able to cut off Rapunzel's hair she wud never have needed to abduct her. Im sure she loved her somewhere. She knew that if she didnt cherish Rapunzel her hair wud fall weak. Mother Gothel protected her. In a way too as she knew that the powers of her hair kud stop working if Rapunzel wud fall weak. She cookef her favourite meal. She gifted her thr things for her to develop her skills and talents like painting. She saw her grow and probably showered her much love in her childhood. She must have been happy seeing the mischiefs and growth of Rapunzel. She has experienced the joys of motherhood. After all she just held her captive. But she never ill-treated her or harmed her. I believe she has been a good mother even though her motives were selfish!!!

I have a theory that when evil Queen fell down she survived and found the magic flower then she became mother gothel and kidnapped Rapunzel . But in descendent's since Rapunzel and snow white were her enemies she gave birth to Evie as evil Queen this also explains why mother gothel isn't in descendants , This would also explain how she knew the song that she sang to the flower cause the evil Queen knew a lot about magic and spells.

I apologize in advance for my long rant/theory of Mother Gothal.
This video didn't even sway my opinion in the slightest. The apple at the end wasn't from blood it was from paint. I think that Mother Gothal's true identity is Medea from the Greek stories of the famous Argonaut Jason. I know that Mother Gothal is Greek because of one of the lines from the healing incantation. If you remember, at the beginning of the movie it shows that she was the one who came up with the lyrics, not Rapunzel. The lyrics that show she's Greek are 'Change the Fates design'. The Fates were the triplet daughters of Zeus and the Titaness Themis(Maybe. I know that it's one of the T names. There are three of those). When they were born they immediately became shriveled little grannies. They would knit and when they snipped the string, some mortal life would come to an end. The gods quickly discovered that they not only could see the future, but they could also control it as well. This ties into the 'Fates design' part of the lyrics. We don't officially know it but Mother Gothal has done somethings that would have had to be done by magic. In the reprise of 'Mother Knows Best' fog starts to come into the clearing and when Mother Gothal leaves, the fog goes with her and stops far enough away that her and the other guys can see Flinn and Rapunzel but they couldn't see them. Mother Gothal knew exactly where they were in that scene as well and it never really tells us how she found them. We can see from this scene that Mother Gothal may have had some experience with men acting like they're interested in her, but only because they wanted something that only she could provide. In the story of Jason, Medea helped Jason do everything that her father had wanted him to do, in order to help get Jason the golden fleece, A ram skin that could heal anything and make lands prosper. Jason never would have gotten the golden fleece if it weren't for Medea's help, but years later, Jason was very unhappy with being married to Medea, which was her price for helping him retrieve the fleece in the first place. He left her to marry the princess of the kingdom they were staying at. Then next time Jason came home was because he was being chased by an angry mob after the princess died from her wedding dress which had poison lining the inside. The dress had been a gift from Medea but when Jason got there he found Medea standing over the dead bodies of their two sons with a knife. She said that that was his punishment for breaking his promise of staying with her forever. We see this in the fact that Mother Gothal is completely fine with murder when it comes to something that she wants. Another example of this in Medea's story is when they were sailing away from her father's kingdom. She called a flag of truce and her brother came on their ship. Medea killed her brother and the crew in a panic killed his guards. They started to sail away and this is the point when Jason realized that he had agreed to marry a crazy person. As they sailed, Medea chopped up her brother into little pieces and threw his parts overboard. The army that was following them had to stop to find all of him because back then it was believed that your soul would be trapped on earth if you weren't buried with all of your body. If this evidence isn't enough for you then I don't know what to tell you.
Signs that point to Mother Gothal being Medea:
1. Their both Greek
2. They both have magic
3. They both may or may not have guy issues
4. They're both absolutely fine with cold-blooded murder
5. They are both creepy beyond reason
6. Neither takes broken promises very well
7. Neither works well with others
8. Both are(or should be)wanted for murder and theft/kidnapping
9. They are both too evil for words
10. They're both young beautiful women(Did in not mention that Medea was stunningly beautiful as well as creepy(Mother Gothal in appearance))
11. They both guarded something that could keep you healthy/young(I think that the place where the flower grew was the place where the Ram was sacrificed and its blood created rich soil that the flower grew from)
12. Both will do whatever it takes to get what they want
The flower was said to be "A hop, skip, and a boat ride away." Medea originated from Colchis, the farthest the Greeks had ever traveled and the end of the known world. The kingdom of Corona is in Germany. A hop to Poland, a skip to Ukraine, and a boat ride to the border between modern-day Turkey and Georgia.
My theory is that Medea went back home after her husband, King Aegeus of Athens had the guards chase her out of the palace for trying to kill his only son Theseus(Theseus was really Poseidon's son but who cares about stuff like that when you're a king who's dying who hasn't had any kids)after he came to the palace to tell him of his parentage. When she finally arrives years later(Trips that far take a very long time)she finds that she is getting old and weak, and knows that her life is going to end soon. Then while walking she sees this golden flower and that it's glowing and the plants around it are much greener than the rest. She, having once been a priestess of the goddess of magic, Hecate, instantly knows that it can help her, sensing that it has the power of the fleece she once helped to guard. She starts to sing to herself and finds that during her song, her voice became younger, her hair darker and more luscious, and her body less wrinkly and full of aches. She knows that she has become young again. To prevent what happened last time she better guards this gift, and comes back many times to sing to it as she discovers that, if she's away from it too long, she starts to become her real age. She guards this flower for centuries until the knights of Corona find and take the flower to aid the sick queen. She secretly follows the search party back to Corona by blending in with the commoners heading back to the kingdom. Too weak to steal the flower back she waits until she hears that the queen had eaten the flower and had a daughter. She knows that the daughter will have the properties of the flower and sneaks into the castle in the dead of night when the guards are being switched out and tries to take some hair from the child but quickly finds out that it isn't going to be so easy. She kidnaps the child and I'm sure you all know the rest.
That's what I think and who I think Mother Gothal really is. Once again, I'm sorry for such a long comment and I congratulate anyone who has gotten this far.

Is it just me who noticed how similar their makeup was. Kohl/eyeliner rimmed eyes neutral eyeshadow with dark brown on the outside and a more softer skin tone colour on the inner,reddy pink lipstick ,blush and wispy eyelashes in the corner

I respectfully disagree with this theory. Gothel does not even look similar to the evil queen. The queen has green eyes, while Gothel has grey/bluish eyes. The queen has arched eyebrows, while Gothel has normal eyebrows. The queen has straight black hair (it's revealed during her transformation into the old hag), while Gothel has curly hair. Gothel has a hooked nose, while the queen's nose is straight. Gothel's body is very curvy with big breasts, while the queen's body seems thinner and with average breasts. Also, the Queen is more serious, cold and emotionless, while Gothel is all over the place, with a sassy, dramatic and teathrical personality.
Those are great points, but since Gothel has dark magic, and spiritual abilities with herbs, plants, and other things, she may have wanted to be a better version of herself. I know it’s only a movie, and we all are being so theoretical, but since Gothel has always been into alchemy, she can change parts of herself, that she want to be more beautiful. Bigger booty, big breasts, curvy yet slender.

We don’t know how we,as humans, would change if we were able to live more than 300 years, while staying young ! I really think someone could somewhat drastically change personality wise, and Gothel isn’t even too far off from the queen, she’s just more expressive.

I don't think Gothel harvested that magical flower, there is another theory that Te Fiti in Moana created those magical flowers because one of them were shown in a scene while Moana was climing up a mountain, then the magical flowers got endangered and the last one left was used by Rapunzel's mother to give birth

My opinion is that theory is wrong. Gothel came from the canon of Tangled and The Evil Queen came from the canon of Snow White. In the movie "Once Upon Halloween" The Evil Queen is still alive like a ghost. She finish defeated by her Magic Cauldron. Everone can knows that.🎉

It is possible Gothel was doing witchcraft while she was out of the tower, and thus why she is never shown doing so. As for why Gothel never uses them, she probably wasn't able to store any in the tower with Rapunzel about.
