The LG G3 OLED is a high-end TV in LG's 2023 OLED lineup, sitting above the typically more popular 'C' series LG C3 OLED and the entry-level OLED 'B' series LG B3 OLED, but below the 8k LG Z3 OLED. LG promises a 70% brighter image on the G3 over the LG B3 OLED due to the G3's new Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology. The 83-inch variant of the LG OLED G3 doesn't have MLA, so it's promised to be 'only' 30% brighter than the LG B3. The TV comes with the 2023 version of LG's proprietary webOS smart interface and has four full HDMI 2.1 bandwidth ports, which supports every gaming technology you can think of in 2023. It also has LG's latest 2023 processor, the α9 AI Processor Gen6, which promises improved image processing through LG's Brightness Booster Max and AI Tech technologies, as well as the ability to up-mix 2-channel audio into virtual 7.1.2 channel sound using AI Sound. The TV's 4.2 integrated speaker setup, which uses the TV's Dolby Atmos spatial sound technology, complements this.

We actually have a slight error in this video! The 83" size does not have MLA, and isn't as bright as the smaller sizes as a result. Sorry about that!
Let us know your thoughts on this review below! 👇
its not even the brightest OLED, it might be the brightest LG C model OLED but its not "THE" brightest OLED by any stretch.
Why is the G3 83" priced like it has MLA?
LG shouldn't be giving the same model name to products with different features like that.
rtings is a bad joke, they are no longer able to determine in half a year that the LG G3 83 INCHES DOES NOT HAVE MLA, so how can such actors, their tests, analytics be trusted??? Rtings is an ignorant, swindling, scammer who should not be trusted by people.💩💩💩💩
You really need to correct your video. Viewers might not read thru the comments to find your correction.
The 83" G3 doesn't have an MLA panel. It shouldn't have the same performance as the other sizes.
Thanks for pointing this out, we've added a pinned comment to address that mistake!
They were too busy bowing to Vincent when he put them on blast so like the cowards they are, they flipped the score around to make lg the winner. After 4 months of having the s95c rated higher on their website, they flipped it out of cowardice because of Vincent. 🤡
Still naming it the G3 is honestly pretty misleading then TBH.
@@HazewinDog I agree. It should just be called 83C3 or something else. But then again, the G name gets them the $$$.
Wonder hw many people bought the 83" G3 not knowing it didnt have MLA. LG did not do a good job with this.
I don't fully agree with the statement that the G3 only looks better in bright rooms. In the dark you will definately notice the much brighter highlights and more popping colors in HDR material as well.
The dimming isn’t an issue with moving content, just static. I would argue that 99% of the time you would have movement on screen so dimming wouldn’t be a problem
I have the 65 inch LG G1 and its still a beast of a TV after two years. Great gaming TV, very bright, solid motion, etc. LG has released several updates to improve the picture since it was released. I can't see myself upgrading to the G3, even though its brighter than the G1 after only 2 years of owning the G1. The G3 is going to be the TV of the year even with the release of the SONY A95L.
How could this tv be better than the A95L?

Finally! Been waiting for Rtings to review G3!
It would have been nice to really show the ABL in action and not just the already dimmed picture
Like a timelapse of the dimming and some exemple of how the TV react when something bright and white is on screen
Agreed
Appreciate the feedback, that's something we'll look into for future TV reviews!
Can't wait for the monitor versions of this
Our LG B6 is still going strong 7 years later and still looks great, but it might be time to upgrade!
I’m still rocking a lg c8 with over 17,000 hours on it. No signs of burn in

@@jonasnezinomas5781I have had my LG G1 for over a year and have seen no damage. Maybe if you didn’t abuse your TVs they would last longer.
My first Oled TV was the B6. Great TV until I sold it. Now I have the CX and the G3, great products so far.

I'm strongly considering buying one of these. Just waiting for the price to drop more.
On sale now and will get better once the G4 drops, I'll be buying during holiday season.
I really like when you place the monitor next to the window!
For what I can tell from reading and googling, it is the LG G3 77-inch vs the Sony A95L 77-inch for me. From my research on paper only: LG has the better gaming features and is currently a full $700 cheaper vs Sony. The LG's stand is an optional $150-ish dollars however, as it only includes a slim wall mount option in the box. That said, the LG is $4300 (slim wall mount only) and the Sony is $5000. While Sony seems to have slightly superior video qualities and better color. The question is did Sony do enough improvements and is more premium enough to justify the extra $700 and is the loss of gaming features acceptable or not? LG has double the useful HDMI ports and more comprehensive AV platform support. And LG seems to be slightly more robust when you consider possible burn in issues. But both are reasonably ok at avoiding burn in. The press and user forums seems to favor the Sony on absolute image quality. LG is slightly washed out at peak brightness and Sony is more color rich and accurate with slightly better image processing but not by much. Either TV is a home run. It's down to the nitty gritty at this point. Sony has Google TV, a better remote, and decently better built in TV speakers as they use the whole screen to vibrate as a speaker and it's reported to be quality - for a TV only speaker. It will still pale in comparison to any quality sound bar. I'll probably order the LG at this point. The gaming features and the extra burn in protection is more my style. But I do love Sony designs and their premium approach. That $500 to $700 of extra money goes to into making the best, most accurate image quality, better heat sinks and build quality. LG is always a bit less solid feeling. But they get very close image wise despite that and arguably get the job done for less.
IMHO no, its 1000 euros difference in Europe, thats about 1100 USD or so? Thats not OK, high end but just a bit overpriced imho
@@WarriorBlood777i will add that imho as an LG promoter, i still recommend the C3 to 95% of the people over the G3, mostly because it's basically the same tv for a lower price and if you don't plan on wall mounting, you don't have to buy a separate stand!
Also, idk about the TV in a normal usage scenario, but the one we have in store is a literal furnace! It's the one that heats up the most out of all the tvs in the store, so I would be more scare for longevity compared to C3...
QD oled is superior to OLED so I say G3 is outdated technology.
@@JoonKimDMD lol babe, physics as science could argue here with you QD WILL ALWAYS less quality (google IT) then OLED. Brighter? yes but seems with G3 NOT AMYMORE! Hello HELLO
Which TV did you end up getting?
Still a good buy? Here in Brazil OLEDs are super expensive. Right now there's a promo that I can get the G3 65 for 11000 brl and C4 65 right now is 12000 brl.
Don’t forget to mention Samsung 95C has no Dolby Vision support, their software update always ruins the television. there’s no HGIG support for gaming, and lastly the one connect box all 4 HDMI 2.1 ports are only capped at 40 GB and not the full 48 GB
And still Samsung QD OLED S95C TOP position product for gaming
Don’t forget to mention the LG G3’s game mode is dim and dull they still have a problem with pink tint and uniformity via vertical banding on basically every panel also pasteurization and a white sub pixel that dilutes colors at a higher brightness. Pops every hour or so and smooth gradation doesn’t work!
@@NexGenTek G3 game mode still has a problem? Strange that they didn't fix this problem already
@@trumpameri1638 They aren’t going to they don’t see a problem with it!
Don’t forget to mention G3 in gaming loses all its advantage it gained with MLA in non game mode. LG prioritized latency instead of picture quality, hence the reason why it’s a step behind Samsung Oled and even more steps behind the true picture expert in Sony with their Oleds.
An extra frame of latency with Sony Oleds, but they allow their excellent picture quality to reflect in game mode.
Hello Rtings! The G3 is a great product, I do have it in a bright room and the image is great. Do you have a video suggesting picture and videogames' settings?
We don't have a video with suggested settings for the G3, but we do have one for the C1, but most of the settings should are similar: ua-cam.com/video/AnkszAOTWpc/v-deo.html
You can find our G3 settings on our website here: www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/g3-oled/settings
Please keep in mind that our settings are subjective! We don't consider our settings to be "the best" but they can act as a good starting point. Our goal with the settings is to get the most accurate picture possible. Again, this isn't for everyone! Some people can get a TV calibrated perfectly and not enjoy it, we recommend to try different setting and make your TV your own :)
The 83” of the G3 doesn’t have the MLA tech
Just to point it out
Why not I wonder?
Dimming was fixed with a firmware update, the 83” doesn’t get mla and the color luminance is also boosted by mla not just the whites.. RTINGS is going downhill
This really shows how important competition is. For years you could say that lg has stagnated and released practically the same tv every year. Now that samsung can make their own oled panels, lg managed to push the g3 to 1300 nits? That's just crazy for a single layer oled panel. I bet they were sitting on the MLA tech for a bit, waiting for a reason to put it out there
The S95C also hits 1300 nits
Too bad those MaD nItZ give it side effects such as green tint that cannot be calibrated out, asbl, color banding, chrominance overshoot, posterization.
@@NexGenTek 1.300nits only with a 10% window, due to it's testscreen-detection algorithm ... with real content the S95C is limited to slightly above 1,000nits ! ... whereas the G3 exceeds 1,300nits with real content...
@@marcuscole8796 Lmao no it’s not who told you this the S95C exceeds 1300 nits in real content that actually goes above 1,000 nits also you can change the Ana peak in the service menu and achieve 2,000 nits! Something you can’t do on LG at all!!
@@NexGenTek Well, that's what the measurements from "Rtings" and "TecTracks HD" show ... ONLY with 2% and 10% testscreens you get around 1,345nits ... with real scene content it will be between 970nits and 1,170nits at best ... whether you like it or not doesn't change the facts: Samsung did it again ... testscreen detection !
Nevertheless achieving 1,000nits is perfect for 95% of content ... which is mastered to 1,000nit ... hence the S95C is a very powerful TV ... no doubt about that ... but 1,300nits, 1.500nits or 2,000nits is the identical useless marketing waffle we've seen last year with the S95B !
Great review. Would I be better off with a mini led in a bright room? And what triggers abl...would a video game dim in call of duty if Im camping and staring at a bright space?
Also would you say Samsung upscale better?
It's disappointing that it dims itself down and has risk of burn in. I would love an OLED but I use my tv for gaming and as a PC monitor.
OLED is yesterday's tech that these Korean conglomerates keep milking due to lack of serious competition. Luckily the Chinese are pushing for Mini LED instead and Apple is also investing in Micro LED so let's hope the situation changes in the next few years
I use my used B9 OLED for gaming and as PC monitor and there's been no signs of burn-in. Sure, you can't expect to go 10 years without burn-in, but I'd say you can at least go 3 years without burn-in and 5 without significant burn-in. I mean mine's used and on most days I use it from around 8AM to midnight with 95% of its use being as desktop monitor, the rest for gaming/movies.
They all perform the same? I thought the 83” version doesn’t have MLA?
This is correct! We made a slight error in the video and added a pinned comment to address that, thanks for pointing that out :)
Hi rtings thank u for an amazing review video as always!, ur HDR brightness rating was 8.8 & now it is 8.5 what happened? Is there a new standard, or it is a new software that brings the HDR brightness down?.

I'm not happy with any of the settings on my lg g3 55" Dolby Vision in UHD on Netflix is horrible & I'm down-scaling to HD. Months after my purchase I'm constantly tweaking as I move between the channels. I pine for the days of the old Sony Trinitron Sets when things were a lot simpler!

@@wildwhippet That's worrying. I had a G2 that had the same issues. I purchased a G3 last week and was hoping it would be better.
Dear oh dear haha.
Compared the g3 with the s95c and they are both great, but the s95c was too warm and looked fake. The g3 looked way better and even in game mode, it just seemed to pop more.
Lg OLED have banding issues why u people didn't comment on that,I bought G3 & it have color banding issues.
Wow the destiny 1 footage with touch of malice in the gaming part of the video was nostalgic as hell.

Order one should arrive today. i will give oleds another Chance despite burns on my 2 previous lg oleds. Tried this year mini leds like the S900B, X95L and now the Hisense UXK, yes they look bright and gives you the joy that there is no aggressive auto Dimming but it always gave me the impression that I've lost something very important, that depth and picture quality that oleds gives you. So I tried very hard to stay away from Oleds but i can't 😩

I found this video because I wanted a nostalgic review of their phone of the same name from the early days of OLED smartphone displays, and I can’t believe they reused the name lmao
Would the LG G3 be the best OLED of the year regardless of the upcoming A95L??
We can’t say for sure yet as we don’t have our own data on the a95l. Sorry about that!
a95l for 4k$ or this one for 2k$? i think there is no talking, G3 is the King already.
The best TV of the year
I’d like to see screen surface temps in your reviews. I’m on the fence about replacing a 65” c8 with a 85” Sony mini led but they tend to put off a lot of heat compared to a oled tv. I don’t want a 85” wall heater in the middle of summer in SoCal
It's easy to find out. Assuming it's a Sony X95K 85" you're talking about, it sucks back almost 300w in use. An LG G3 83" sucks back around 185W. A 65" LG G3 uses about 95W. The increase in screen size from 65" to 83/85" is gonna increase the wattage used, even if you stick to OLED. Electronics can only put out heat relative to the amount of power they use, it's just how they dissipate it. I.E A MiniLED and an OLED who both suck back 200w will put out the same amount of heat, just different methods of dissipating it.
Thank you
65 G3 has an issue with WebOS 23 while playing Netflix - Audio is very low. LG Technicians and Netflix support teams can not resolve the issue. Any suggestions?
Soundbar problem solved
@ 6:07. Is at that the TV doesn’t seem as bright because it’s in Filmaker mode? Can you tell the difference in those same scenes in standard?
2:54 "In theory, the TV's MLA layer should increase the risk of burn-in?" You mean... decrease?
Definitely, sorry for the confusion.
Had to return my G3 because of connectivity issues. Stunning picture but for that amount of money there shouldn't be any wifi or ethernet issues. Maybe I just got unlucky. But now im waiting for the A95L.

I have a b7 and its great.. but the burn in start to appear.. its time to upgrade it for a g3..do you have any cases that the burn in its not on the spot that it should be.. my burn in its to the side where it should be the mark
Have you guys mentioned the dark scene flickering to LG? If so, have they given any indication that they are working on a fix? It is really my only complaint with the TV.
We don't have interaction with brands like that unfortunately. But we know they read our reviews, so they should be aware of it.
So I should get the LG G3 77” over the 83” or should I still get the 83” version. I guess 6” less not a big deal. Also wondering if you really will see that much difference between the performance in the sizes. MLA does that has something to do with motion?

Why do so many people place so much emphasis on brightness all of a sudden ? What I'm trying to say is how bright do they want a tv to be. I find it a little uncomfortable to watch a tv that's super bright. I personally watch OLED in a dark or dimly lit room and I love it. 😊😊😊

Important to note this is not true colour brightness but artificial white subpixel boosting.
There is nothing artificial here at all ... mla is an additional physical layer in the panel which increases the light output efficiency for all subpixels by 40% (vs G2 , 70% vs C1) ... nothing is "boosted" here ... lol
As the light output is increased for ALL subpixels, also the colour output is increased by 40% (vs G2 , 70% vs C1) ... the G3 produces colours much more vibrant than earlier models.
Nevertheless QD-OLED still gets much brighter with pure colours ... although these colour luminances are never demanded by the movies/source ... maybe some animation movies or games may request it...
👍

Lmao, definitely not true. I’ve had my S95B since launch, no sign of burn-in, I also had a G3 for 2 weeks before trading in for the S95C. G3 is awesome, but S95C still edges it out in PQ. If you’re not a hard core gamer, QD-Oled will last for years…
Actually the S95C can get brighter especially in colors it’s not even comparable. Also game mode destroys LG’s with 4K144hz no dimming and pristine uniformity. I retuned my G3 for the S95C because of vertical banding and traditional banding in the sky’s of every game I played.Especially if you go into the service menu like me and you can unlock 2,000 nits if you want!
@@NexGenTek sure but as i stated already, s95c will get burnin in a matter of months.
thats the price you pay for more colors
@@rogerdouglas2306 5.5 months of heavy usage here and zero burn in. Try moving those goalposts to years instead of months lol
@@rogerdouglas2306 No it won’t lol. It’ll never burn in that problems been fixed
Problems with pink color in screen like c2? The c3 have the same problem :(
This video is about the G3, not the C3. The G3’s MLA technology has less pink tinting in all screen sizes except for the 83 inch size which lacks MLA versus the G2, C2, and C3, but still has more pink tinting versus any QD-OLED.
Waiting on A95L 😅
As are we😅
me too
100%
you loose
Did anyone ever bother to do a temperature check on the screen on the G3? I just took a reading on a 77" model a few days ago and it read at 120.7 degrees F. That's WAY too hot for ANY new TV to be measuring at in 2023.
All that light focusing
My 2013 Panasonic Plasma has entered the chat. I can cook eggs on it.
@@etinosaoyemwense False, you want the heat to escape on electronics because that is the death of them.
@@etinosaoyemwenseno, I want them to design a product to bring to market in 2023 that isn't so hot that I have to worry about it being a FIRE HAZARD in my home, actually.
@@michaelbeckerman7532bahahahahaha……….
Isn't Samsung QD-OLED better than this one since it got more accurate color and brighter.
OLD IS BETTER then QD, with G3 now as brighter
Question: My LG G3 77" makes a continuous snap crackle pop noise (due to heat expansion/contraction). LG says this is normal. But I find it very distracting while watching quiet scenes. Do a lot other G3 user (or different OLED's tv's) experience this?
Here a video off another user with the same problem: ua-cam.com/video/1nj8RJzxQxI/v-deo.html

That stand looks terrible. No doubt it’s meant to be mounted on wall
Sony Bravia A95K and A95L QD OLED TVs kick this tk the kerb 😂
only in wet dreams
I won't buy this TV because of the reflective silver slip. Too bad they didn't make it black or dark.
no cries about it
A tv that costs that much should come with a stand, are LG turning into Apple or something
The G series is meant to be displayed as a painting. Hence the “Gallery” series
What you should be complaining about is the same specs not being in the C3
@@jollamaexactly! Does the Samsung’s “The Frame” come with feet.
So tired of people complaining about no feet
@@jollama yeah but you should be able to have the choice
I think you should be looking at the C series. Clearly higher end TVs aren't for you if you're using stands still.
The best oled for me SAMSUNG S95B 2022
What take you so long to make this LG G3 video? Yes, it's a flawless TV.
