This has been so helpful - thank you! I was able to get the 3 counties 100k course to my watch in just a few minutes after watching your instructions :-)
GREAT video! Thanks for sharing! Anyone watching for the first time: don't watch all 13 minutes - just open Terminal and type in the first two lines of code you can find in the COMMENTS section of this video... then drop in your GPX file into the now visible NEWFOLDERS folder. After that's done, type in the second two lines of code you'll find in the COMMENTS section of the video.
An easier way to display hidden files: Open the Finder Go to your Macintosh HD folder (access this from Devices in the left column) Hold down CMD-Shift-. (dot) Repeat to hide again.
Hello, i tried to upload 3 tracks (PCT), California, Oregon and Washington. It worked only for the Californian track.... Do i have to upload all together or separatly?
I try to upload to f3hr, but it cannot load. I notice that it cannot load gpx file which contain waypoint. I can only load gpx file with no waypoint only.
Try this site's directions. dret.typepad.com/dretblog/2016/01/uploading-routes-to-garmin-fenix-3.html According to them you CAN import gpx files with waypoints. But how many waypoints can be contained in GPX file is unknown. If your gpx file have too many waypoints that maybe the problem.
hi fella thank you for showing us this it worked a treat. the only thing i have noticed is i have a file called ds_store which wont go away even when i delete it.any ideas?
You can not delete ds_store as it is created by Mac OS system to store options and properties for the folder. The reason it is shown is because when you are trying to display the hidden folder by using terminal command, it also exposed the DS_Store folder as it is also a hidden file. If you re-enable hide hidden file the folder won't show-up. To hide those hidden files again, use following commands, pressing Enter after each one: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE killall Finder
Is there a way to do this with an android or apple phone? Say I am out in the field and I am looking at a map on my phone. I then see an interesting point on the map. Is there a way for me to make a waypoint on my phone and then transfer it to the watch?
I think there are a few connect IQ applications that you can transfer a waypoint/route to your watch. Such as this one: garmin-connect-iq-apps-by-r485.blogspot.com/search/label/3%29%20Route%20Planner%20r.485
Thanks for the reply! Still thinking if I should get a Fenix 3 or Foretrex 401... or maybe I should just stick to my cellphone with GPS app for tracking and hiking navigation.
Another approach to without using the above defaults command is to quickly show all hidden files in any Mac OS X Open or Save dialogue box by hitting Command+Shift+Period on the keyboard together. You will instantly see the change as once-hidden files are revealed.
Brilliant. Always struggled with this and watching for a few minutes solved all my previous issues. Thank you!

Excellent video. Can't believe Garmin haven't simplified this.
Just a quick headsup for Windows user , SAME THING and it's easier to reveal the hidden folder in Windows.
Great tutorial
can you import golf courses from a surface onto the Fenix 3?
You are the best! Thank you very much.

C-Trading Parts yes you need to upload each track individually instead of all together

Thankyou! Worked perfectly!
this worked perfectly! thank you!!
I followed this video exactly as it says and the gpx file still isn't downloading onto Fenix 3 HR. Very frustrating!!
Make sure to wait for the Fenix 3 HR to finish syncing because it takes awhile for the file to transfer!
