Oh wow, thank you so so much! That means a lot to me. I am a big fan of your youtube channel! You have saved my life more than once! At least 1 time a week I end up on one of your videos to solve a coding problem. 😅 Thanks for your great tutorials! 🤩
I've just finished Cleo on Switch. The first two Monkey Island games were a huge part of my childhood, and as far as I'm concerned, Cleo is right up there with them. Amazing work. I would never have guessed this was a solo project or a first game.
I begin by thanking you for taking the time to produce this video. It helps spread the complexities behind developing a game. Unfortunately you failed to mention the skills you already had before beginning, and the amount of wealth you invested in this project. I think you are an artist before a coder, but learning how much experience you had in art would have been useful. As much as knowing how much you spent on hardware and software. I ask this because it is needed to weigh the timeline of your project as well as the feasibility of your setup and development cycle. Having someone baking you up or already starting with all the necessities to make a game helps a lot, and there are many who think gamedev is fast and cheap and undervalue how much one condition boosts the likelihood of a success. Anyway, thank you really much and good luck on your journey 👍
Remarkable achievement Christoph! Congratulations. It is a really, really good game! Also lots of love to your missus for all her hard work and support. This really really is a boot in my rear to get my own game started. Looking at this has given me a lot of great ideas on how to optimize my own development journey and how I can try to minimize the steeper costs that you had to tackle in your project.
what strikes me the most about your game, on top of how fun and engaging and well made it was, is the story! really good story, well delivered. bravo and keep'em coming!
Thanks for this super detailed and honest look at your game development process! I've only managed to sneak in a few hours of playing Cleo since release, but it is really fun and I can't wait to play the rest!
You are my favorite (one-man band!) developer! I wish I had found out about Cleo earlier, but better late than never! I 'll thank the announcement for the Pretty Broken Adventure for that! This video is of great help and I am grateful you gave us all this info. Taking us through your journey was not only informative though, it was emotional too. Especially, at the point of the release day. I am trying to create a (first) game myself with a couple of friends, but we can hardly find time to work on it, so seeing your dream come true was inspiring. Best wishes for the development and release of your new game and we are waiting for another first birthday celebration video! 😉
Hey! Thank you for sharing your story. It's very inspiring to see! Kudos for the detailed overview. It's very helpful for an amateur game developer like me, to understand what it takes to build and ship a game of the size. Glad to be in the first K of viewers.
Vielleicht hast du sogar von der Kickstarter-Kampagne "The Adventures of Bryan Scott" gehört. 😉
This is an absolutely inspiring journey you've just told and congrats on your game. It's not worth much to you right now but CLEO is still on my Wishlist and will be purchased at some point, so you've got some longtail sales left for sure. Very much looking forward to your upcoming announcement (unless I've missed it already! Will need to check)
i heard the gamedev podcast where you talked about i did not imagine your face to be so beardy haha. anyway really inspiring. massive success in my opinion paving the way for more good games to come.
this is really inspiring! thank you for providing the details. I also really appreciate how straight to the point the development was, the leap from the idea to the Kickstarter was very fast as far as games go
thank you for creating this, with a focus on the tasks, that surrounds the game making process, i am just starting on the journey my self, and it is so inspiring to see and hear stories from others, so thank you, and congratulations on the success of Cleo !
Hey, very good video. I'm currently in the process of developing my first game and I'm very close to making a Kickstarter campaign. The information about that was very helpful. Just a small question, how did you animate this video so well? I'm trying to learn how to animate, too.
Really great video, so detailed and so inspiring. As a fellow solo dev it really helps to see other people's process and just how much effort they are going to as well to create something special. Good luck for your next game!
Just discovered your channel and your game. Thanks for sharing this content, really insightful! I definitely gonna take a look at your game. Congrats for this first release 🎉 Did you come up with new ideas during this year for your next game?
Thank you so much! :) Yes, exactly - I was playing around with a few game ideas in 2022 and I just started the development of the new game a few weeks ago.
Congratulations on your great game as well as all the work and dedication you have shown all these years! I really admire your passion and effort to be able to deliver such a great game without prior game dev/design knowledge!! ❤Can't wait for the new game! 😊
Like the animation process! I’ve been thinking how to animate pixel art recently. (I’ve used procreate to rough the animations for my game and photoshop to finish them)
I'm curious, and this is a nitpick but might have affected your SEO, but why did you go with "Cleo - a pirate's tale" instead of "Cleo: A Pirate's Tale"? Was that a conscious decision?
Maaaaann...what a process !! Incredible work you've done and you are doing ! Very inspiring . I bought Cleo on GOG day one and didn't regret it at all ! Keep inspiring us !
Great devlog, so much data and stats!
Congrats on the success with the game, 98% positive with 500 reviews is insanely good!

Nice to see a (mostly) solo developer developer success story, especially on the first try :)
Thanks!!! =)
also next time I vote for you to get a substantial raise!! 🍻🍻
