- The cheap Cadillac Escalade engine swap is one of the most requested videos I've ever had. Everyday there are comments asking when it will be back, and here it is. We had to setup a new shop just to get this knocked out, all new lighting, tools, tool boxes... a lot had to happen to make this happen and now we're ready! The cheap 2011 Cadillac Escalade and its new L94 engine are ready to go, all that's left to do is take out some bolts and put them back in.

That's what soul crushing sounds like.
😂
Must have been that "other crew" that dropped the engine or ran it without oil while JR was "only holding the camera" or looking the other way.
Strong, positive attitude in the face of disappointments. Inspirational. Slay this giant.
What gets me is how rare it is to hear rod knock on random vehicles driving around. However on random used engines it's very common.
once those bad engines are sold to others the knock spreads
keep in mind of a work truck is going in has that noise though keep going until dies then it goes to the junkyard
Nothing worse than firing up a new engine just to hear a rod knock. Happened to me a few times, so now I always pull the pan off to inspect the bottom end before installing.
Yes, pan gaskets are cheap compared to replacing an engine. It can also tell you a lot about the engine.
Glad they sent you a replacement right away!
Good luck on that one, prob won't last more than the warranty. Ask me how I know.
@@BadBrad23 lmao
Put a dollar number to all that labor and that will be the most expensive Escalade in the country.
Your positive attitude is astounding man! Another great video!
Yo I’m loving the mini resort congratulations on the property. 🎉
🥉 thanks Michael!
@@WatchJRGo Resort is sure better than this POS Escalade !!!
The mini resort videos rock. I am looking forward to seeing your progress. I know the Escalade well get sorted. It's what you do.
He might decide to change up to Watch JR Renovate. He's pulling 75-100k views on the mini resort vids compared to 45-55k on the car vids.
@@danielseelye6005 it's something new and rather interesting. I'm sure some sort of vehicle will add to the mix eventually.
40-50psi oil pressure on cold startup is pretty normal on those engines. I have an 07 Avalanche that has 40-50psi oil pressure on cold startup. A lot of people on the Avalanche/Escalade forums report the same numbers.
Nothing like doing a job multiple times! Love your videos bro!
We do it nice 'cause we do it twice ;)
As an almost 40 year old dude, I can tell you that I now know how to replace the brakes on my car blindfolded for the same reason. Nothing like taking everything apart multiple times because you forget to do stupid stuff. But hey, reassembly is easy once you’ve done it 5 times in a row!
Like my old man says. If a job is worth doing it’s worth doing twice. (He never said that)
It seems like LKQ should have TESTED the motor out before they shipped it to you!! I'm really bummed to hear they sent you a worthless motor. That's a HUGE job to put it and pull out. Hope the second engine is okay.
They should test them before pulling them from vehicles to put on the shelf for sale.
@@derekgardin1512 or at least disclose they are untested. unfortunately wrecks that won't start are often assumed to be good runners.
That was trippy, your hair got shorter in the middle of the video!
Your lucky the Escalade is providing you with so much content.
.... repetitive, boring, time lapse content.
How many times do YOU watch the same person do the same thing? 🙈
You're
I would love to see a garage that has a movable ceiling chain hoist, with an angle adjustable spreader bar, that can remove engines!
My neighbor has one. The winch can slide about 6 feet back and forth and the gantry arm swivels 360. So you can pull the engine from one car and swing it around to drop it in another car. He built it himself. Pretty nifty set up.
Strong's Garage.
JAMSI ONLINE & Fireball Tool.
They're not that uncommon.
JR, again you have the patience of a saint! You rock!
I would have rolled it out and called a scrap yard to come get it.
How could anyone miss that loud knock, i would not be happy doing that job over. They should have at least compensated you for all the time you put in. Thankfully you did this job yourself, wouldn't have wanted to pay a shop to do it over. Well, at least you have more content, but it's taking away from refurbing the new property, which i thought was great to watch, nice big fire and all. G-d bless, looking forward to seeing how the shack in the woods turns out.
Was hoping for more cabin content, im hooked!
Kudos to you for keeping a smile on your face and getting right back in there to do the job again
So happy that you got a new engine that can work so sorry that you had to replace it
Hey John, I really enjoy sitting back & watching ur videos. Ty for your content!
Got to admire your work ethic. Well done 👍🇦🇺😊
Now I know why my old mechanic always insisted on hearing an engine run at the junkyard before buying it, situations like this are exactly why. Hopefully LKQ tested your second one!
That sucks! LKQ seems to really stand behind their stuff. Hopefully this one will be a good engine.
Wax on wax off. Rinse and repeat. Swap engine. Your patience is amazing.
great to see you working with your family. Your brothers and dad are stars.
Thanks for your video, it encourages me to take the first step toward my dreams.
I would have lost my @#$%. Can't believe how chill you were.
Been through that myself. When I heard you first start it my heart sunk!
I like the old days .... we would go to the wrecking yard, find an engine in a car, run it and then the yard guy would pull it, that way we knew it was good. The good old days.
That Hustle!!!
You are the man!
Bummer about the bad motor. Looking forward to seeing how the new property progresses.
VT247
Good thing you have that night crew coming in lol
Such a bummer to see and hear. You handled it great though and if it's one thing I have learned watching your videos, it is to stay positive in the face of disappointment. Keep up the great work man!
Enjoy the time you spend with your brother and also when you work with your Dad. You'll wish you had more time later in life.
Love your job so much you do it twice!
LKQ obviously shouldve tested the engine before selling it, but I'd like to see JR build an engine test stand to do his own testing prior to installing the engine!
John Ross it's probably the hardest working youtuber ever. Working around the resort and changing the motor like a million times
NO PROBLEM THE SECOND TIME IS ALWAYS EASIER I WAS A TECH FOR 45 YEARS
Thumbs up for your perseverance
Damn JR that really sucks. Lucky you are dealing with honest people. Good luck with this one. Cross them fingers and toes this time.
Sucks but I appreciate his honesty in showing things don't always go as planned
Haircut in the middle of the job - nice!
Ouch, that sucks. Better man than I. I did a transmission swap on a 04 Grand Cherokee 4.7. Replacement died a week later. Flushed everything properly, new fluid, and filter. I did it ground level without a lift. Wasn't doing it again, sold it for $800
Reminds me of replacing my transmission some years back on a 1999 nissan altima with a junkyard one. Claimed it came out of running and driving vehicle of course. It took me 3 days, no lift just jack stands multiple floor jacks and a cum a long ratchet connected to the garage rafters. After all that, the transmission still had a bad 3rd gear. Sold the piece of shit for parts as soon as I could.
Sorry about that sucks man I feel for you
Watching something being fixed while fixing something myself. Feels right.
Man, haven't heard the old timelapse music in forever!
You do enough engine swaps to warrant the investment in an engine run stand.
I’m super interested in this rebuild
Good Evening John Ross, did you already finish the tear down at the cabin?
J.R., you really need one of those full engine creepers. The original name for them is incredibly hilarious, but I forget the name.
Well you survived removing the deck so hoping this goes better and the chance of grievous bodily harm or death is a lot less...
Also great subplot... John gets a haircut mid video. 👌
From UA-cams biggest shop to , We don't have a jack. Time for another shop my dude!! Damn the bad luck with that engine.
let's go with the rebuild escalade truck another engine more power. Can't wait to see the next video. thanks
nice try hope it work out
Hope your all good with this weather.
Bro, your enthusiasm that everything is fixable is admirable, however you keep trying to prove yourself wrong
You are a busy guy!
The last shot of that engine bay looked like a bowl of spaghetti. Lol...
Missed you in Kansas!
Hi JR 👋
There is almost 0 reason for that to happen. The salvage yard engine should have run for some time to check it before they pulled it. If they were unable to run it, they should have given a disclaimer.
I got 1 bad engine in all the years of swapping used engines. It had a dead/o compression on 1 of the cylinders. They said it ran perfectly when pulled, but sat on the shelf for some time. Not happy on that one.
Man thats just gotta be frustrating..!😮😊
I had this happen to a Grand Marquis. It was outside of the 30 day window by the time I got it in, and they did nothing for me. Props to LKQ.
That's a slap in the huevos, you took it better than i would have. LOL. LS motors are one of the toughest you can get in my opinion although my 2010 5.3 with 110,000 miles needs a cam. I know, suprise suprise.
My dogs started barking when they heard all that knocking! Sucks but s it happens!
Even they knew it was bad 😂
Just an FYI for you: importapart in St. Louis tests all his engines prior to selling. His channel is I Do Cars.
When you do the time lapse, do you think we are hard of hearing?
Now we see why you want a break from fixing cars and I can't blame you. That sucks!
That happened to me last fall, it was from al local yard. they traded it reluctantly. The second time it was much faster.
"Reluctantly", like I am not the one that sold somebody a junk engine. I am the person that gets to do 2x the work due to the salvage yards incompetence.
its fine send it
Next time you want to build oil pressure before initial start, just connect everything and hold the gas pedal to the floor. If it’s on the floor, it won’t start but at least builds pressure.
This doesn't work on every car. It disables the fuel injectors but i've come across several that didn't work.
Brrrrroooowwww that’s so much work 😢😢😢😢😢
Technically you arent supposed to reuse an intake after catastrophic engine failure. At least that is what LKQ said with the hemi when I had to replace it.
The "That's what she said' puns were everywhere at the beginning of this video. I'm such a child haha
That sucks. I hate that feeling😢
As a retired mechanic i feel for you i have had this so many times its worse if its a customer car and the 2nd swap is a freebie .
I thought some of the rebuilders offered you at least half time for a DOA part.
@@DeatGaming Depends on what warranty is purchased or offered with a used engine.
2:08 WHAT?! 😝
Can we go back to the abandoned Mini Resort now 😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃?
Daaaaaaamn that sucks man! Keep your head up!
That sounds like rod knock or pistons slaps? My bmw is doing exactly the same sound 😢
Rinse and repeat with the next engine test it before installing.
I love my job I'll do it twice, expert fast time engine replacement.
That's called the boneyard boogie.
You got the lkq warranty with install/remove labor?
Who is knocking, just a new engine at the door
At least you didn't leave a half inch socket in one of the bores.
It's really awesome that they replaced the engine which they should. But it's so much damn work that it's not even fun anymore
Doing thing right, cause we're doing them twice!
John swap the front with the new v Cadillac Escalate l think is going to be crazy video
You actually do not need to pull the radiator or the condenser to remove the engine without the transmission.
Oof, that bites!
In future engine swaps: 1) Buy from J&J where you know it is a good engine. 2) If not bought from J&J, don't take any ones word engine is good, bench run it prior to install.
Ouch
Just slap some bearings in it 😂
I personally pull any motor from LKQ mainly from cars that have been rear ended and wrecked badly you know the motor was working fine before the accident. Look at all the time wasted buying an already pulled engine. Lesson learned. What happened to that company you bought engines from previously. Love the friend that helps by staying on his phone the whole time you’re working your ass off John.
Ok fine... not like I need to go to bed anyway!
The haircut transition lol
Practice makes perfect
