I leave you the same comment that I shared with Bruce... We just borrow watches, homes, cars, everything is impermanent even our bodies. We can not take anything with us, except our experiences from this world to the next. May we at least bring some good into this world and leave it better for being in it. I love your content and candidness. Thanks for sharing your journey with us! I hope you find happiness in every sacred moment of time.
Great way to put it! Most hobbies cost money, so the cost of ownership during the time you bought it and sold it is much less than the cost of keeping it forever. Additionally, you get to try many more watch experiences!
Nice move! It’s the kind of watch you could sell and if you want it badly, get again. I think there’s a level of redundancy in your collection, but it’s fun to move a price or two and get something new in the lineup too!
Such an interesting explanation leaving behind the best piece in your collection. Enjoy your experiences and keep a great Journey hunting nice watches.
Personally and I could be wrong, but I suspect the sale was a financial decision more than a collector's decision. Not just to raise the capital, but to raise the capital from a watch that might be a worse financial investment than say, a Patek, which might pale in comparison to a Lange, but is possibly going to hold it's value better and is considered more of a mainstay as far as it's stand on a watch world pedestal. To me, a Lange is head and shoulders above a Patek or 2, as far as quality and looks, but that's just me. Enjoy your next purchase..
To me it seemed like you had it just so you could say you had a Lange. Now you can say you had a Lange! Onwards in your journey, I’m excited to see what’s next. For me, I am eyeing a navitimer 92.
‘Collecting the experience ‘. I like that. I saw the Bruce Williams video he posted, it made a lot of sense when he explained it the way he did. Maybe it’s not the right path for everyone, but it seemed that way to him, at least at that moment in time. And I get the impression the same applies here in your situation. So good for you! The journey continues… 😊😊😊👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
This passion can be fickle.....I'm still saving for my grail, and it's a Lange 1 Timezone. I see your argument, and if it's not compelling enough to keep for a seasoned collector like yourself...I too will have to consider do I keep it as a grail and buy sth that I know I will wear to justify. Thank you for passing on these pearls of wisdom.
Cheers. The timezone is a bit too big for me by the way, hope you got the wrist for it. Great-looking piece otherwise. I like how the black dial version makes it look a lot more casual. Imagine that in steel... on bracelet...
@@UptickWatchReviews Yes, I know it is a monster of a watch in Many ways. Wearing larger watches no issues luckily. Agree the dial does impact the look, I would probably go for white/rose leather version, nvr seen it on bracelet.
hey you should mention retail prices of some of these watches in your collection to get a sense of what they go for, what ball park they are in. interesting video!
As the saying goes, ‘It’s better to have loved & lost than never to have loved at all.’ Speaking of your recent SOTC, do you still have your blue Willard? I can’t remember seeing it.
Yeah, I hear you. I've made some watch mistakes but it's all part of the learning and I don't really regret it. You have a great philosophy to collecting.
I know this is a completely different neighborhood, but my $3700 Longines Perpetual calendar is the same to me,….it looks really great close up..but on the wrist it’s hard to read the dials..it has all the complications but you need a magna fine glass to read em.
I’ve would sold the PP Travel Time instead, but this is just my opinion. You still have an outstanding collection to enjoy! However, when the time is right, you should go for another Lange… Would go beautiful with your other watches.
I personally would have offloaded the manual wind Patek before the Lange. But each to their own. You say different but I see Lange appreciating in value heavily over the next few years more so than the aforementioned Patek.
Your thoughts on selling this timepiece are interesting and make sense. I’m thinking about selling my AP Royal Oak 15400 because it has become so overvalued. Your video has given me food for thought.🤙
I would only buy what I will keep but sometimes it’s difficult to judge if you like it enough to stay with it forever, Seiko sumo for me was one such piece. I held off on Oris aquis for 3-4 years now but still want it, I want the blue seamaster 300 too. Let’s see which one I end up getting
Collecting experiences? This is just a way to justify excessive materialism. You like the hunt, the purchase, the feeling that goes with those 2 things. Then you need it again. Its a love of consumerism and not watches. Well not a love of watches in the purest sense. Bruce Williams is certainly much worse than you On this. But ultimately if you have the cash then spend it on your desires - and I have to say your point about being able to afford it 10 times over before purchase is so spot on!! Couldn’t agree more - BW should push this idea too and it would massively help educate audiences on spending within their means. Peace.
Very thoughtful psychological analysis of your purchase, “the experience”, and reasoning in selling. Bruce Williams should watch your video and learn from you. Personally, I am not a collector (because My $ goes into my boat) but can appreciate beautiful watches from ALS! My lifestyle is more aligned with Rolex and Sinn but if I ever won the lottery I’d buy that Annual Calendar and cherish it until I die-and make sure my son (as best as I could) never sold it.
Different ppl has different value to things and money. For watching collecting, buy what you like, sell what you want. These are just things and the selling and buying for watches are part of the fun. We don’t really own anything when we leave this world anyway! Have fun!
Some of my favorite watches ive owned was around the 2.000 dollars mark. i rather have serveral cheaper watches than one crazy expensive. Mostly because it eases my mind knowing that i dont have a insane amount of money on my arm. Also when you have to put your watch in a safe it kinda loses its charm.
Why would you think Shanghai isn't into Rolex much? What gives you off that vibe? Shanghai is the banking capital of China, much money flows through there
I haven’t been there myself but understand that a lot of the Rolex production goes to mainland China which is likely able to absorb it all at this point, which might explain the empty displays in HK ADs. So yes, seems their taste has become similar to HK-Western’s.
sir, may I ask for how much you sell the piece? I really like lange's design and technic, but I am a bit worries about losing too much buying at official price
For the past year we have all been both couped up consuming social media nor had many avenues to spend serious money. So I wonder as we emerge from the pandemic and many places in the world open up I suspect our spending will be directed elsewhere and brands like Rolex and their hype may come back down to earth. So now may be the time to reflect upon one's current collection and look to becomingmore liquid so as to enjoy and share with others life's experiences which 2020 proved can be fleeting.
The “best” watch syndrome leads to the kind of myopia one finds in professional team sports. One or two stars receive all the adulation and attention while the contribution of the supporting team members who indispensably lay the foundation for the stars’ performances are ignored. I bought my first Seiko diver after I had four Grand Seikos and I concluded that I would be a fortunate person even if the Seiko was the only watch I could ever own. The competitiveness that we impose on our watch collecting is not always healthy nor in the best interest of becoming a complete collector. I sold a very special high horology chronograph and replaced it with an Omega Mark II and found that was a much better choice for me despite the cachet and beauty of the high horology piece. I find the passionate collectors of vintage watches of non-auction house quality to be much more joyous and relaxed overall (or at least less weighed down) than competitive collectors who are in the sphere of being able to acquire the horological equivalent of Ferraris and McLarens. I would much rather have dinner with Kikuo Ibe who invented the G-Shock than FP Journe.
Well said and well justified. ALS are fantastic watches, but leave me a bit cold - very Frankfurt. Patek and JLC transcend this clinical trap and make joyous pieces of horological art. As for the pleasure you get wearing a beautifully designed, high quality piece like your KS that costs 1/20th of a Lange, well that's when you've truly grown up and risen above the BS!
Lange will always stay above that level if you buy preowned. Prices will escalate from this year onwards. It's been badly undervalued especially compared to Journe.
Unfortunately the hobby has now become mainly for the very wealthy, and by being very wealthy, I'm not sure they appreciate it because it tends to come very easy. What irks me is that the guys at the top end tend to turn their noses up at the average watch enthusiasts
Oh thanks for the heads up. I really wanna take part in the live stream but it’s right during my morning routine going to work and sending the kids off to school.
Best piece is gone...
I leave you the same comment that I shared with Bruce...

K nice philosophy.
Wearing a nice car on the wrist is above my comfort level. I’m a sports watch guy with my dress watch being a dj41. Great content as always Uptick 😎👍.
I AM SHOCKED!!!! WHY WHY WHY !!!!! The Lange was amazing...... I am so upset at your decision.......... DOUBLE THUMBS DOWN
Yes this is very disappointing mein Pontiff. I think it’s time phor a video about this disasta.
Fantastic final respect given to an incredible piece. What an honour to have owned such a thing as an 1815 annual calendar.
Good on you for doing what you want and collecting what you like. Finding and following your own path in the hobby is better than following the hype.
You collected the experience (great way that Bruce explained it), and why not. It also makes way for a new exciting chapter when you are ready 😁👊
Beautiful watch. Not for the faint of heart. Glad you got to experience having an incredible timepiece like that.
Should have sold the Pateks and kept the Lange 😉

Great video and very balanced thoughts!
Those FX futures are tricky - keep up the great videos.

Retail is now $46k USD. Second hand market is around $36k USD
Great video - beautifully explained. One of your best.

I love the watches from A lange & sohne 11/10🤩🤩
Beautiful watch but sometimes and for different reasons we have to make a decision. Thanks for another interesting video.

The Oak is different. The win is to own it. Only sell if there’s something you don’t like about it or need the cash.
question is, how did you sell your watch?
I would only buy what I will keep but sometimes it’s difficult to judge if you like it enough to stay with it forever, Seiko sumo for me was one such piece.

Do you think your Patek 5926R will hold more value over time than this Lange would have?
I am asking because I have same Patek and about to trade for 1815 Annual Calendar
It’s about equivalent. Gotta get what you love. They’re quite complementary so maybe you shouldn’t trade out of the Patek to get it

BTW do you have any insight about Shanghai watch market? You mentioned HK is into Rolex very much, how about any of your Shanghai counterparts?

Because of the dozen other luxury brands. No one said it is not. The question was what is.
Cheers!
Wao.A.Lange❤❤❤❤❤❤

I think sweet spot to buy these in used condition is HKD 200-230k
@@UptickWatchReviews do you think lange1 will be a better choice than this 1815 annual calendar in terms of value keeping?
Magnificent collection but perhaps it’s time to add a piece from a top independent like Gronefeld or Journe?
Good advice...
Some wise thoughts, well said.
well said! thanks for sharing

Buy your next Lange from Dornblüth and you never will let go. ;-)
This Lange is nice but not as striking as Datograph or Zeitwerk. I always buy dress watches and then sell them because I am not wearing them.

Even AC3 wondering why you sold the Lange- he mentioned you on tonight's stream (~11:40min mark). Enjoy!

Sell Tudor and buy Rootbeer
Can’t disagree but HK ADs won’t even sell the rootbeer
Buy a F.P. Journe
Cause nobody cares about old man poser watches, besides other old men nobody cares about?
You care enough to watch and comment. Thank you. Can I get a 👍 and a subscription?
They can never be same level as a Rolex or even a omega they are boring and lackluster even if they are high quality
