Can you get a convincing SRV tone just using the tools included in Apple's GarageBand software? It might sound better than you might assume. In this video I'll show you a few tricks I've learned trying to do just that.
That is amazing! You gave me a great incentive to dig into my GB again after I've given up on it a while ago and have some fun. Thank you!
What a great explanation and what a very good tone you have build. Really appreciate this.
The result was absolutely fantastic. It was fun to watch you working with the program. The pro tips were really really great.
Sounds great, well done tutorial, and great playing too.
I am always impressed by the sound that you get out of whatever gear you play with! Steve's spirit is right there ;-)
You just taught me so many things I didn’t know about GarageBand. I’m inspired to write something now.
Great job showing how to pull a diamond from a stone! I've always just used the default settings in GB (and Logic Pro), and just meddling with the effects pedals. Now I've got a whole new world to experiment.
thank you for the videos keeps me from going crazy in the house and helps me with my playing .
I never knew garage band's plug in can create nice blues sounding sound like this, amazing! I'm gonna try it definitely, thanks!
Sick demo all the tips and tricks aside this playing just punches into my soul man you really know how to put that feel into that solo 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
SRV's tone alone is one of my favorites!!
Great sound, and your playing is awesome. You have his style down pat!!
Impressive use of GB. You've got good ears, and that's a great tutorial for folks that aren't familiar with DAW tweaks.
Thank you Anthony for the years of lessons 🎹😎👍🎸
Wow, that was really impressive Garage banding. Cheers from Canada.
Just tried it out in GarageBand! Sounds fantastic to me! Thank you so much for this great lesson, Anthony! I´ve been waiting for this.. Stay safe!
I’ve mostly just been using GarageBand on my iPad, so it looks much different from what he was showing. Just more convenient for me, but I should probably start using it on my MacBook.
Can you access all of this from your phone or iPad, or are you using a PC or Mac to dial in these tones?
Maybe I will give this one a try. Even though I’ve pretty much moved onto my boss GT1. This tone sounds really good!! 🤘🏻🎸🇺🇸
@@heyjarrod How do you use your phone with this kind of software? How exactly does it work? Do you plug your guitar into your phone, and does the sound come out of the phone speakers (or headphones), or...what? I'm new to this stuff.
Some of these tones sound like a harmonica cutting though....very nice video...I appreciate your work very much.
Ty sir!! First of all Stevie ray is the g.o.a.t in my book and as a beginner trying to learn chord progression you help me with these awesome videos. Ty and keep a rockin!!
Thanks! Very entertaining and educating. As others said before I didn't know about amp modeling in my Garage band on this level. I think you came pretty close getting the sound. Would be great to learn more about e.g making backing tracks etc. You really showed the "hidden" potential in this app. Now I can spare my wife's ears from cranking my '65 Vibrolux!
You nail it. Great video!
brilliant vid mate, subbed !
very tasty playing thanks for the video! :)
This helped a lot Thank You!!!
Sounds great bro thanks 👍🏻👍🏻
Great vid! Thanks for sharing
Wow Garageband is amazing, I was planning on buying a brand new amp but I didn't realize you could just do this instead, I feel like I've been living under a rock this entire time lol
Thank you and stay safe!
Amazing Anthony , thank you
Whoa, totally just got me to subscribe, great ears on you friend.
Dude, thanks for doing this. Not many pro level players out there giving out really good information like this on how to setup GB. What you came up with here sounds MASSIVE! Very usable IMO.
There's some FREE TS plugins out there on the web that are MILES better than the ones in GB.
Sounds great man, I will try that. Although, I know a lot of that is in your hands. Awesome! I’ll have to check out more of your stuff.
Reminds me of something I read recently, wish I could remember who the guitarist was. But apparently, someone told the guy his guitar sounds great. And the guitarist put his guitar on the stand and said, “how does it sound now?” 😝
So I almost wanted to say great tone, but I remembered that quote. Anyway, I know you spent time dialing in that tone, which is awesome! But really great playing man!!! 🤘🏻🇺🇸🎸
this is awesome thank you so much!!
Thanks I really enjoyed that.
Very nice bro!!
Excellent!!! Thanks !!
Good explanation - thanks :)
This is fantastic. Just started learning guitar and also jumping in to garage band. Would love a similar video on a hendrix tone if you find the time.
Great playing BTW 👍 earned ya self a sub
Yeah, absolutely so. That's some good playing here and I'd wish for something like this on a Hendrix tone, too.
Anthony really awesome information and playing too! You have a very keen insight regarding SRV and his tone! Thanks again for your time and expertise! Still not sure about that beard. Are you Amish now?🤣
Thank you sooo much!
Great tone and playing as always. Can I know how can you came up with that drum beat? Been a new user of garage band for 2 days
It sounds pretty good to me. I think it`s all in how you set up the software and also the skill of the performer. You just have to spend some time experimenting.
This is AWESOME....
pls make more of these srv tone tutorial, maybe with different app/setup/gear. if you already have, maybe you can recommend which video of yours would be good. having trouble getting that fat srv lead tone
What a great tutorial! I've used GB for years - but I can't use cranked-up tube amps where I live. I have to make do with all GB tones on my tele.
You have made a very honest assessment of GB's capabilities and its weaknesses... I like the programme and have written a lot of music with it - including all the bass, drum and keyboard parts - that is one of its strengths! I have also coaxed some excellent guitar tones out of the app, but that has been mostly by luck rather than by logical steps as you have demonstrated here... Thanks - you have given me some great ideas!
thanks for the distraction.....it helps
Glad to help.
Also - I loved your work on Vice.
Ha!
@@Texasbluesalley You're not that guy? I swear - SWEAR you look/sound just like him.
For me amp plug ins seem to be pretty good when you are listening to them ....they seem to lack "Feel" for the player. But the convenience is getting better and better....we are definitely moving into a VR world. Good tone you got going there. too bad Ole Stevie isnt around to enjoy it
Great tone, what is your playback equipment like, amp or high fi?
Fantastic! Is this on logic or GB? Ty
Thanks Anthony! Do you have a way to "generate" midi bass/drum lines for backing tracks ? It would be great to have a tutorial about that.
I usually work in Logic, and I run Superior Drummer 3 from ToonTrack. They have a bunch of built in loops with the software, as well as midi packs you can buy. Their stuff is so much better than what I could program. A lot of those midi packs will also work in EZ Drummer as well, which is less expensive.
That's actually a really convincing sound. I'm impressed! Does it clean up when the volume is lowered like a tube amp? I have zero experience with these software things. What do you need to interface with your computer? I know these are dumb questions but this seems like a pretty cool way to play around with some different tones. I don't even know if it's available for Windows people but I'll check on that. Great video!
Some of the more expensive amp sim software will respond like that when you roll back your volume, but in my experience Apple's stuff doesn't respond quite as naturally.
Sounds cool have you tried it on amplitube ??
this is nice
These are really good tones, however the level of hiss I get even without pedals with any high gain setting makes it unusable egardless of which guitar I use . I notice you weren't even using the noise gate, obviously I can use a gate but I don't understand how you weren't getting as much noise as I do? This was using a Strat into a m-audio interface into an iMac. It's all fine until o want some decent gain, then I gave to put so much noise gate on its ridiculous.
hey anthony. i would love to use that backing track. do you have it on your site? i would download it
Great ear and killer playing. My question is, how are you controlling the hum? It’s very loud when I try to dial this tone in, but I don’t hear any on your video. Thanks!
Yes! Me too. He's not even using the noise gate plug in, which makes mine hum when I turn it off. What gives? Did you ever find out?
@@PicodeGuy No. I never did get a reply about that.
Hey TXBA where can I get a copy of the drum track?
The problem I'm having is getting into the lesson because I keep rewinding the intro jam!
Hi Anthony, what are you using as guitar audio interface (guitar to e.g. usb)? Thx and keep up the good work!
Right now I am using a Focusrite 18i8, before that I had a 2i2. It doesn't matter as much for plugging a guitar right in, but the mic preamps on the Focusrite stuff are very nice.
@@Texasbluesalley Thanks for your quick reply!
Awesome, man! Tell me, would this procedure too much difference in Logic?
The interface for the pedal and amp sim is the same in both Logic and GB. Where you see the plugins listed is actually more intuitive in Logic IMO. GarageBand tries to be simple, but ends up being harder to use I think.
@@Texasbluesalley totally! I have much more difficult using Logic than GB. Thanks!
Sound great for the stock plug-ins! But you have great ears and fingers to make it sound like that!! What pickups do have in that strat?
T.Y. Texas Blues Alley... from Riccione Adriatic Coast Italy.
I’m not seeing the cabinet and mic options for the amp creator on iPad. Is that a Mac only thing?
Try Guitar Rig 5. I bet you will get amazing tones. It's really good.
Amplitube 4 sounds much better !
I noticed you're not using noise gate in the plug in. How is it so quiet without it? If i turn my noise gate off, it gets really loud static like sounds.
GB looks interesting. I am brand new to this concept. Anyone know what the guitar is plugged into and what kind of speaker(s) you need to hear what we were hearing on this demo?
Guitar is plugged into an audio interface and a set of studio monitors will do the job.
(Focusrite scarlett audio interfaces are very nice in my opinion but unfortunately i can't suggest any studio monitors because i don't have any :P )
@@berkbozdemir2533 - Thank you!
Holygani
Can you post a link to the backing track?
nice! I have a macpro and focus rite solo and have had awful latency using computer for live play, do you experience this?
I have never had any computer, no matter how powerful, that had acceptable amounts of latency for live use. I could never play live with even the minimum amount of latency they offer, just too distracting.
I wonder if we can get this in iphone
Would love a Bias FX2 video for us PC guys
That could be arranged. I use it regularly. 👀
That would be fan-tastic!
Is there a follow up to this at all? Any improvements since this was released or is this as good as it gets?
Sounds great! If you’re getting that tone already, I’m sure you can figure out a way to tweak it if you think it is lacking. Doesn’t seem like there would be a need for a follow up, you might want something more specific for yourself.🤘🏻🎸
Would you be so kind as to give us some advice on SRV tone in Amplitube (preferably latest version - 5). Unfortunately they don’t have the Wave EQ adjustment and the same amp you used in GarageBand and it’s hard to transcend the settings and configs you show here. It would be amazing.
Look for the Dual Showman amp in Amplitube.
@@Texasbluesalley unfortunately it’s not available on AT5.

It’s the American Vintage D?
And I apply all the amp EQ settings exactly as the ones in GarageBand? Including the two 7 band graphic EQ pedals and the parametric EQ filter?
Thank you so much in advance.

😜
Hey man as much as I love seeing your beautiful face can you start showing the guitar more so I can watch how your finger and strum hand are moving?
Would having to EQ's like that be like switching pick ups?
More like using overdrive or boost pedals. The pedals they have in GarageBand are decent, but aren't quite what I needed, so I'm using EQ pedals as clean "shaped" boosts instead. The different EQ curves allow me to more precisely emphasize the frequencies I want boosted.
Didn't SRV only use 2 maybe 3 pedals?
Why does my Garage Band look different than yours? Do you have add-ons?
GB looks different on iPad I believe - this is the desktop app interface
Have you tried Amplitube 4 ?
Yes, there is some great stuff in there.
@@Texasbluesalley You should make a video about it !!
Is this something that you buy or you download for free???
GarageBand is software made for Mac and iPad (or iPhone) by Apple. I think on the iPad it's free to use, and $4.99 for some additional instruments. The Amp and Pedal tools I'm showing here are included in the free version I think.
Texas Blues Alley how are you playing it with you guitar? What’s the sound coming from?
Please, switch on the videos subtitles in English
