Jimmy Chamberlin is one of the best rock drummers of all time. That song alone is Hall of Fame material. Its a nonstop flurry of speed, technique, & feel. The Pumpkins are not genre definers, without Jimmy. I so enjoy watching him play.

Just muscle memory lmao. I remember being really frustrated with this song when trying to learn it because of all the intricacies, and I still haven’t mastered it as well as JC, but I can play through the bulk of it.
I used to fall asleep with my Sony Discman playing Siamese Dream every night for like a month or two when I got that CD in middle school. His drumming was very different for that era. The way he uses his snare always reminded me of a drummer in a military battle but sped up.

His snare drum work and fills are what really set him apart for me. So in control of his dynamics, with accents absolutely everywhere. Just really musical and creative drumming that sets a steady bar for his bandmates, while constantly adding color to the song.
The fact that they play this something like 1.5 to 2 x speed live and he can hit everything and keep the groove and feel of the song always amazes me. You've got to love Jimmy

I was there too! I won the Istanbul ride and had Jimmy sign it. He was such a nice dude and on top of his drumming was such an interesting and philosophical speaker. @camerdriver It was at Dubs Drum Basement in Dublin. It’s a small but awesome drum shop near where 580 and 680 come together. A ways from SF proper.

I've heard this song hundreds of times over the past thirty years and know every note by heart and still this was stunning. You don't realize that this song wouldn't have the power it does without this nearly perfect drum part.
I'll be honest, I never really paid a whole lot of attention to the drums for a lot of the Smashing Pumpkins songs but after seeing Jimmy play on Rick Beatos channel a couple weeks ago I am just blown away by how incredible his playing is. There are so many details that almost get lost in the recordings but they're there, subtly adding depth to the music. Amazing player.

You know I learn full albums usually everything bass,drums,guitar. Smashing pumpkins was guitar and drums. I cant fathom how many time I just watched Jimmy live for hours then play along no matter if right or wrong. I love this man,he is my favorite and changed my drum mind
Guitar player here. These parts and fills are etched in my brain. Always struck me as curious his dedication to the ride cymbal. Like the heavy stuff seems to call for wide open hats or beating the crash, yet he’s got the restraint to keep to the ride. I guess that lends to his style & distinctive sound. Thx for posting!
That's a big part of his style, the restraint. Like he's playing to heavy parts and he has a lot going on during some sections, but he's always calm and giving the right amount of energy for the song, and always with taste and groove.
His solo album in the esrly 2000’s was amazing . He’s a beast and one of my biggest influences and inspirations. Saw them two years ago . He did a nice little solo . Wish Darcy would have been with them . I remember the world premiere of Smashing Pumpkins on 120 minutes on MTV back in 87 ( I think k that was the year)
