My first experience seeing Jimmy Buffett was an early 70s show where he opened up for a pianist named Billy Joel in the Jacksonville University gym. During "God's Own Drunk" when he gets to the line "and that's when I first saw the bear" somebody in a bear suit ran out onstage. Jimmy was laughing so hard he stopped playing the song until he could compose himself. Buffett and Joel both hit it big a few years later. My heart hurts since learning of his passing yesterday morning. 💔. He gave us so many great songs and concerts, SO MANY fantastic memories… This man brought such happiness to SO MANY! You will be forever missed and never forgotten by Parrot Heads around the world, Mr Buffet! Thank you for sharing your music with us for 50+ years! God bless you and Jane and the kids and all who have loved you. Job well done, Sailor. We salute you. Rest easy friend.
I'm from Miami , I now and again saw Jimmy Buffett at "Monty's in the grove" I saw him 3 times in concert, once by accident. in Orlando visiting a friend from Miami, apprently there was a free concert we stumbled on that day. All my Neices, and Nephews sing all the "songs we know by heart" You will be missed. you were a true humanitarian. and you are already missed! RIP
My granddaughter now 14, myself 65, always loved and sang Jimmy Buffett song along with my cassettes especially Sailor looks at 40. She could sing it by heart at age 3. You will always be loved for many years to come, a true legend ❤. RIP fly high
What a wonderful documentary. I sailed in the Caribbean listening to Jimmy Buffett's songs with a drink in my hand. I listen to his music when I want to feel free of every day stress and to bring those island memories back. It does the trick. RIP Jimmy.
We’ve lost another legend 😢 Rest in peace Jimmy, an Army of Parrot heads are going to miss you 🦜 My wife and I saw Jimmy in concert back in 2015 and he was Great!
Rest in peace Jimmy Buffett. I hope they have salt shakers in heaven brother. You will surely be missed here on Earth but Heaven is now Margaritaville. We all love you!
So sad, RIP Jimmy, we didn't know you existed until we went on a holiday to Mexico, my husband plays guitar and the Americans and Canadians kept saying do you know any Buffet songs ? Well we we got back to the UK we looked him up and have been playing and singing his songs ever since. My favourite is Pirate at Forty ❤
It’s no surprise to me his biggest fan bases are in northern climates. I spent the first half of my life in the PNW and the gray skies and rain left me with seasonal affective disorder so bad it put me in the hospital 3 times until a sharp doctor figured out what was happening and told me I needed to move somewhere sunny. I credit Jimmy’s music for saving my life while I was so miserable. Now I live in Florida, living the “Floridays” dream, still singing along to every Buffett song ever written. Thanks for the music Jimmy! You have no idea how much it’s meant to me. 😎🏝️
Lol. I chuckled about Fl. being your saving happy place. I mean, I’m glad for you but for me, both times I’ve been there, I couldn’t leave fast enough. Both of the vacations I took there (only there because of friends/family) I cut both of them short. I LOVE my Michigan seasons, the change in wardrobes and activities and especially how beautiful it is in northern MI. I just shake my head about all my customers (snowbirds) that go to Fl. in the winter. It’s funny how the things that make some ppl so happy make just as many miserable. Happy you found your place!
Rest in Peace. Lost another great one who brought alot of joy and happiness to millions. Only started to appreciate him in the last couple of years but I am very sad today for us and of course his lovely family. God Bless Jimmy!
When my daughter was a baby and was teething and couldn’t sleep I take care her out for a ride and play Jimmy Buffett and she stopped crying and we listened to him on our drives everywhere as she grew up. I saw him 4 times but danced to him at home a hundred plus times . So many great memories with friends all because of his wonderful songs. Thank you Jimmy♥️, condolences to your family and friends and Rest in Paradise♥️🙏🏼
Funny he mentions Paul McCartney and I just heard that Paul came and sang to him on his deathbed. RIP Mr. Buffett. You are a legend. What a life you had.
Met him quite by accident in the 80’s. Only for a few minutes. Now all these years later I feel like I’ve lost a friend. Whenever I’ve been down, Jimmy’s music has lifted me back to my feet. Thank you for the music and poetry Jimmy.
Jimmy was 1st concert at 15, he opened for the Eagles at the Miami Baseball Stadium in 1977. Eleven kids in a Vega, all without permission to go, we all got grounded but it was well worth the trip from Ft Lauderdale 👍🍹🍹🍹🍹🍹
I literally had every one of his albums - many times over - as I played them to death. Havana Daydreamin' is one that you'd NEVER get tired of, and I also LOVED Floridays, which is a bit different. He started a whole genre of music. Confirmed proud Parrot Head here! RIP my friend.
Jimmy left an incredible legacy of celebration, fun, and good will as well as in extensive collection of great tunes and performances. We parrot heads are so grateful of the joy that he brought us!!
Still workin' Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays -- Sunday and Monday off. Not a bad schedule. See you in the next life, Jimmy. Sail On brother and thanks for a literal lifetime of great music.
Jimmy, thanks for living your life like a song, and playing all that great music for us. See you in Margaritaville someday. Fair winds and following seas.
Seeing this in 2022, makes me feel so old.., but still grateful for all of the memories that are painted with Jimmy's music! Thank you Jimmy Buffet for adding to those wonderful memories!
Fair winds and following seas. As the mother of the Son of a son of a sailor, I thank you for the music. My life is better with your music! You are sorely missed! RIP!
I've been a Parrothead since the 70's. I was a professional mariner for about 4 decades after that, I've sailed the world around more than once. Jimmy Buffett sailed every inch of every mile with me, for about 4 decades. He may be gone but he will never be forgotten as long as I live. I saw another post recently about him spending his last hours with his siblings. My family is going through something like that now. I'm going to attach a picture at the end of this. My wife and I went on our 3rd date to one of his concerts in 1989. We"re still together and have 3 children. We've been to many of his concerts since. We will miss them. Our condolences go out to his family and all of the others that will miss him as we will. Our middle son is in rough shape, he's 30. I guess I can't attach a picture to this, but I understand what he and his family went through in the end. Fair Winds and Following Seas!
RIP Jimmy Buffet! He’s most likely still rocking it out up there over there somewhere. Live life as it goes, live Aloha. Don’t sweat the small stuff and just live. Very inspiring person indeed. Prayers up to your fam 🙏🙏🙏
“White Sport Coats and Pink Crustaceans” and “Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes” are my two favorite albums. I heard him at a concert with Joan Baez in ‘75 and enjoyed his music ever since. I wish I had gone to one of his later concerts after seeing this documentary. My son was sung to sleep each night by Changes in Latitudes.
He was one of my family’s favorites and he died of the same cancer as my dad who was taken away after it spread to his brain. Jimmy seems like family. DEAR LORD HOW I MISS THEM BOTH!! I GUESS I WILL HAVE TO KEEP HONORING HIM WHEN I GET TO GULF SHORES AND WE ALWAYS SAVE UP TO GO TO LULU’s! That we will save up to go to no matter what. Love you Jimmy and Pop- miss you both!
I'm thinkin back to 1977 when i was a sailor, i was newly divorced spending all my time on the beach back when you could drive onto Jax Beach, i had an old ford van and had just bought Jimmy Buffett's new cassette "changes in Latitude changes in attitude" , during those days i played his album constantly while chillin on the beach with long neck miller high lifes, great memories of the navy and Jimmy ❤
Every time I here “Barefoot Children In The Rain” , I think of when my children were small and whenever it rained, they would be out in the street, barefoot and playing in the rain. That’s what makes Jimmy Buffet’s music so iconic. In every song, there is a story that somebody in some way can relate to. His Songs made people happy, his concerts made people happy, his personality made people happy. Jimmy is gone now, but his music and his stories will last forever. As a Mississippi boy, I am proud that Jimmy was one of us, I’m grateful that I literally grew up with his music, I’m happy that my children grew up to his music. I will always listen to his music until my time comes. Thank you, Jimmy for your life and talent, you will be missed.
He was just ahead of his time. Then there came a time when feeling good was never more important and he was the top of the game on feeling good. Thank you Jimmy for being part of my life and my feeling good! I lived in Key West for awhile too. Gonna miss your smile!
Jimmy, it will always be 5:00 somewhere..... we have been best of friends in your music and concerts.... will miss you dearly... but your music lives on my friend.... see you on the flip side...
RIP Legend. The live performances were fantastic. He sold a lifestyle. I had no idea how wealthy he was; thought he was a beach bum who sang a song on occasion.
Jimmy Buffett music has been the sound track of my life. At home in Florida, and all around the world, Jimmy has been with me, at first on records, then on cassettes, CDs, thumb drives, and my guitar. A bottle of rum and Jimmy Buffett music IS a party!
Boy, this one was well done. Big ol' hot tears rollin' off the cheeks during that last 5-7 minutes or so. Dyin' is as much a part of life as livin'.. .but Jimmy Buffett made his mark on the "livin' " side. Happy Trails, Mr. B. Thanks for a lot of great memories. I'm thankful we have your recordings to remember your joyful spirit by.
So many songs through so many phases of life. Thank you Sir everytime you take us to wonderful places. May you rest in peace but I think where ever you are there's a party.
Always loved Jimmy Buffett music, and his low key living. Him going barefoot, was one of my favorites. The music, of my generation, as well as the listeners, are slowly dying off, and hopefully going to Heaven, to sing with Jesus, forever.
Jimmy had the ability to make people happy. His always present smile was contagious. He was a much better songwriter than even he acknowledged. Jimmy touched our hearts and souls. He made live easier to bear. A very unassuming man who made generations of people's lives just a little easier to bear. Sail on Jimmy. We will miss you but you will always be in our hearts and certainly always on our playlists. We love you man!!!!
Bravo Steve Kroft-60 minutes… Ty!! You caught JB lightning in a margarita glass! And, you captured the essence of our favorite slightly naughty alter boy-sailor, pirate poet, a Hemingway of song writers, Coral Reefer Band leader from corner bar musician, endearing “pancake and gumbo cook” family man, a humble husband, masterful business owner (now Buffett billionaire #2), seaplane pilot adventurer, student of the Caribbean and Pacific Islands- Overall, an engagingly fun-loving/living … our beloved barefoot tippy-toe happy human! Hoping my next surgeon plays JB during procedures! Fins up-Bubbles Up, JB! ❤😢
Great interview and Jimmy you have a contagious smile that will live on forever. Thank you for all your great music. When i was stressed your music mellowed me out. I have been humming Pirate at 40 since I heard you left us. Even though I'm so sad you're gone your music is pulling me thru. RIP Jimmy. Condolences to your wife and children. Sail on sweet pirate. ⛵⚓
Jimmy has had the life of a very blessed individual who has had an effect on a lot of people. Good on him for surviving it and enjoying it and continuing to do so.
Raised as a parrot head. . . Since his passing, ive cried ao many tears, like he was my very own Dad.. . But ive also changed my entire life and joined a fishing boat ...and yes, I BLAST JIMMY ALL DAY!! Cant thank him enough. RIP my friend.... And thank you.... For your guidance to paradise ♥️
He is amazing! Never had a hit?? What planet are you from Jr. Graduate in 1990? Such a great everyday guy? He will always last? Very deepest sympathies to all his loved ones. Just a horrible loss! I’m so very sad. Jimmy, we all had lives, but you gave us the gift of stepping out of those lives for a couple of hours. We got to be beach bums for awhile, before going back to work the next day💕
I don't know how anyone could possibly dislike Jimmy's music. He was so unique, and his music captured the Florida beach attitude perfectly, to me, and obviously, for many others. I was raised in the Bahamas, and Florida, and the first time I heard steel drum in one his tunes back in the 70s I took notice and have been a parrothead ever since. I was shocked and sad when they said he went. His attitude and tunes will live on. RIP Jimmy 😢 🫡 Hope to see you again...
He did it his way. He had more fans that most. His music let us have a vacation for a couple of hours. He was true. RIP Jimmy. I know you found that lost shaker of salt.
While we were working on the "Trip Around the Sun" video in Charleston, I had the surreal experience to be in the room with Jimmy Buffet as he sat on the couch and watched one of these interviews for 60 minutes for the first time. In a room with Jimmy 1) surreal....2) Watching Jimmy Buffet Watch Jimmy Buffet on 60 Minutes....once in a lifetime experience. Yes...he was very nice to the video crew.
That's the video I always send to friends on their birthdays. I live in Charleston. It was shot on Folly Beach just south of Charleston, but you know that.
Oh, btw, since you helped with the video you're familiar with Jimmy's Boeing Stearman. Well back in the spring of 2007 there was a news flash here that a Stearman had crashed in Charleston Harbor. Well knowing that Jimmy flies in and out of Charleston I feared the worst. I was on edge until thy released the tail number. Still a tragedy of course. Two men died in the crash.
There's a tucked away part of every one of us that would love to live a life that his songs are made from. Simple joys. Too often, our lives are a complicated and overwhelming chore. Jimmy's music helped us all get through it.
During the week Jimmy was in hospice, Paul McCartney, the man who is consistently voted the greatest living composer, flew to sing to him.
Wow
One of his new songs, My Gummy Just Kicked In, was written about something Pauls' wife said, while they were all out to dinner, recently. Funny story
I liked what he said about not using a teleprompter., like Springsteen has for decades.
That is so amazing..both wonderful human beings
I'm really glad you shared this with us... thank you, it's comforting to know that
He didn't need no stinkin' number one singles. He's just a number one guy!
Amen 🫶
Number 1in millions of lives!!

I get that. Putting on one of his songs always reminds me of going to the beach with my family when I was a kid. Definitely takes you away for a bit
Hope you’re in a better workplace now…not worth the stress. 👍🏻
The day JB passed I busted my flip flop that's no BS
My heart hurts since learning of his passing yesterday morning. 💔. He gave us so many great songs and concerts, SO MANY fantastic memories…
This man brought such happiness to SO MANY! You will be forever missed and never forgotten by Parrot Heads around the world, Mr Buffet! Thank you for sharing your music with us for 50+ years!
God bless you and Jane and the kids and all who have loved you. Job well done, Sailor. We salute you. Rest easy friend.
Agreed...it's kinda crushing...he made such a difference.
He’s an American Icon ! His music makes people happy and is the example of the American Dream. Loved Jimmy Buffett since I was a little kid ! 😊
There will never be another one like Jimmy Buffett! Thank you for all the music, novels, and fun! Rest in Peace, Sailor!
I'm a hotel driver in Hawaii and I play Jimmy live in Hawaii everyday non-stop and he really brings in the tips! Mahalo Jimmy 🤙🏽
RIP to a legend. We will miss you Jimmy
RIP Jimmy. You are and will always be one of a kind !!! Thanks for the music and the memories. I’m raising my margarita glass right now for you.
RIP Jimmy you gave 50 years of joy and a lifetime of memories.
His memory will be a blessing to everyone who heard his songs and were inspired by his love of life. We will miss you, Jimmy.
As long as one person remembers his music, he's still here.❤
What a wonderful documentary. I sailed in the Caribbean listening to Jimmy Buffett's songs with a drink in my hand. I listen to his music when I want to feel free of every day stress and to bring those island memories back. It does the trick. RIP Jimmy.
great documentary; my family will really miss him... RIP Jimmy and TYSM for all of the amazing music, entertainment and experiences that you created
We’ve lost another legend 😢
Rest in peace Jimmy, an Army of Parrot heads are going to miss you 🦜
My wife and I saw Jimmy in concert back in 2015 and he was Great!
I think it was the joy he made us feel, the joy for living life to the fullest. RIP Jimmy
Not only could he perform, but his friendly, fun humor made you feel like he knew you personally.❤😢
It’s so sad he’s gone 😢 a world without Jimmy, I’m going to miss him so much
Funny he mentions Paul McCartney and I just heard that Paul came and sang to him on his deathbed. RIP Mr.
Rest in peace, Jimmy. I know you've finally found that lost shaker of salt.
in that one particular harbor
One truly magical bit of Jimmy’s sound is using pan drums. Perfect!
I literally had every one of his albums - many times over - as I played them to death. Havana Daydreamin' is one that you'd NEVER get tired of, and I also LOVED Floridays, which is a bit different. He started a whole genre of music. Confirmed proud Parrot Head here! RIP my friend.
What are my favorite songs on the Floridays Album is Creola
My condolences to his family, friends, and all Parrot Heads everywhere. So hard to lose your leader.
Jimmy left an incredible legacy of celebration, fun, and good will as well as in extensive collection of great tunes and performances. We parrot heads are so grateful of the joy that he brought us!!
Who wasn't smiling through this entire interview...
RIP Jimmy. We love you man!
Saw him live in Maine in 2016. Great show, great music, great guy. Will be greatly missed.
Still workin' Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays -- Sunday and Monday off. Not a bad schedule. See you in the next life, Jimmy. Sail On brother and thanks for a literal lifetime of great music.
Smart man. I’m
Sad he’s gone. His music brought such joy
RIP Jimmy, your music takes me back so many years, I am truly heartbroken with your passing.
Jimmy, thanks for living your life like a song, and playing all that great music for us. See you in Margaritaville someday. Fair winds and following seas.
Thank God I lived at the same time as Jimmy. Happy times
Seeing this in 2022, makes me feel so old.., but still grateful for all of the memories that are painted with Jimmy's music!
Thank you Jimmy Buffet for adding to those wonderful memories!
Such a great entertainer loved by so many for sooo long! He was needed to do a Labor Day show in Heaven! All my love dear Jimmy Buffet!
Fair winds and following seas. As the mother of the Son of a son of a sailor, I thank you for the music. My life is better with your music! You are sorely missed! RIP!
Jimmy, Party Hardy up there ! I know this planet will miss you and your smile/music. Rest in Peace.
I never been a big Margaritaville fan however I cannot get enough of
come Monday😉👍 that is definitely the song💯
Mine fave too. I could listen to that song over and over
Working on fishing boats during the day and playing gigs at night in Key West. That’s Jimmy Buffet right there….
Rest in peace Jimmy, we will miss you 😢
Every time I here “Barefoot Children In The Rain” , I think of when my children were small and whenever it rained, they would be out in the street, barefoot and playing in the rain.
@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?
Love this guy, so happy 😁😊 thankful 😮I saw him in concert ❣️ thank you Eddie 💝💝💝💟💟
I miss him. I have many of his albums. And he's the first I go to when im sitting outside and put on an album. Miss ya jimmy.
What a great person and what a great entertainer he's the best and always will be
Love this, thank you. RIP Jimmy
Jimmy Buffett is awesome! His music is amazing! His music makes you feel great!
I fell in love with his music early
and stayed right there. Read his books like “A pirate turns 40, then 50 and then 60. I loved his PBY flying boat!
Fins up Jimmy. What a life. Lived in peace so rest in peace ☮️
He spent his life making people smile. I will miss him. Godspeed Jimmy😢
Amen to that!
My favorite “go to” music documentary!
RIP Jimmy.
May your music live on forever.
Jimmy Buffett paints with words and music. He is the Norman Rockwell of the Caribbean lifestyle!
And, you captured the essence of our favorite slightly naughty alter boy-sailor, pirate poet, a Hemingway of song writers, Coral Reefer Band leader from corner bar musician, endearing “pancake and gumbo cook” family man, a humble husband, masterful business owner (now Buffett billionaire #2), seaplane pilot adventurer, student of the Caribbean and Pacific Islands-
Overall, an engagingly fun-loving/living … our beloved barefoot tippy-toe happy human!
Jimmy buffet was a good friend of mine. It's break time somewhere.
Jimmy has had the life of a very blessed individual who has had an effect on a lot of people. Good on him for surviving it and enjoying it and continuing to do so.
@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?
RIP Jimmy. Sail on to the sunset of Margaritaville brother Thanks for stopping by and the joy you gave to the masses. Nothing but love brother
You can't help but feel good listening to JB, RIP.
Jimmy was such a lovely man. So humble & charming. He was an amazing teacher of LIFE. ❤
RIP Bubba
Bubble Up was Jimmy's farewell song to his fans. 😢
