Few problems using trash pumps instead of ice eaters.. 1st is trash pumps only run for hr or so on single tank of gas. Ice eater runs 16 hrs plus w generator on single tank. Ice eaters will run non stop if have plug in electric power source. We ran ice eater in single digits. When a trash pump turns off there is water inside the pump that will freeze locking impeller and wont be able to restart the pump. That doesn't happen w ice eaters. As far as cost a real cheap 3" trash pump is 400 bucks plus cost of suction hose. Ice ripper cost me 500 so price is very close. Also you cant put a trash pump 100' out onto ice. Most ice eater have 150' cord that allows us to make holes in the center if needed. Keep in mind trash pumps can/will suck up debris and can get clogged. Ice eaters wont do that. I just dont see the benefit of a trash pump over an ice eater.
I run my $119.00 trash pump for about 4 hrs on a single tank. It will clear a huge hole in 4 hours. I'm not saying it's better than a ice eater but another option for those who can't afford a $500 ice eater and a $400 generator to run it. If electricity is available ice eater is the only way to go!!!!
Steve Nunz lol yes we are... here in indiana when everything is froze up all we do is cut about a 5’ hole an out a few decoys in the water an a couple on the ice an the birds get real stupid... i love it
I was thinking the same thing! 👍 When I take new hunters with me I explain that we waterfowlers are a different breed. Some go hunting just one time, but a few are now hooked for life!
I was thinking about getting an ice ripper, but after seeing you run two of them and thats all the bigger of a hole you got, now i'm not sure. Which one do you like better?
You have to keep in mind that it was single digits when we were doing this..also the ice was solid 4" at least. Air temperature makes a huge difference when trying to open holes or keep them open. Last year one ice ripper opened half that swamp in 3 days when it was 40 degrees out. I have ice ripper and a power house and they are both work the same.
You will be blown away by the difference!! Sorry to hear that hope you had a good season before that. Thank you for posting the video, we definitely need more UA-cam content.

The stuf duck hunters do smh I've done it too 😂
We're practically retarded
Just a suggestion but a trash pump is much faster and cheaper.
Love the videos

‘Didn’t wanna do this work barehanded, Steve? What are you a pussy afraid of the cold?’ -Internet hunter/tough guy
Wish I had ice here.. I need to go fishing... Lmao
Ice fishing is approaching fast. I love jigging pan fish
Crazy Duck Hunter's! Lol Can't wait for the hunt video!!
Not our brightest moment
Theres a time to give it up fellas....
Absolutely!!! When the season closes.
Better watch out you might ruin the duck hunting in Louisiana, it’s “their ducks” after all lol
End is near
Steve Nunz hope you get something out of all that, it’s a b*tch to get those things going
if you build it, they will come!!
I love getting to learn from your "mistakes" instead of just my own.
ahh the joys of waterfowl hunting.
Next time you chainsaw ice you have to leave your chain really loose because it tightens up when it hits the water
the things we all do to kill ducks an geese... lol that’s awesome guys
Crazy isnt it? Waterfowl hunters are a special breed of people. Lol

Good to know, thank you!!!
You guys got that much ice near you already? Its been that cold by you?
Yes. Backwaters and smaller water have been iced up for while now..lakes starting to make ice. Rivers open
What hp ice-eaters are those?
1 hp ice rippers
You should do a review video on the ice rippers for us!
@@bryanpater7081 I could do that. We also have the 1hp power house ice eater. Sucks I just deleted some older videos w ice eater demo
@@bryanpater7081 it's the j2 outdoors ice ripper in this video
Keep up the hard work. I enjoy watching your videos.
where did you buy that ice eater?
Also your units are put together just slightly wrong. Not horrible results given the conditions.
I will look into it next year. We wasted our time doing this. Hail mary effort which was unsuccessful. Too late..to cold...no birds.
I will try to put it more under the ice next year.
You will be blown away by the difference!!

You guys are just slightly touched in the head..👍🏻not saying there’s anything wrong with that😂
I'd say more than slightly. Ok so didnt go as planned lol.
Steve, that was damn dedication, hilarious to watch you though!
Awful lot of work for a few ducks that aren't worth eating.
I wont sit home and watch the season pass me by.
Sog, not worth eating? Says who?
sog some awesome hunting footage on your channel, sog. Keep it up!
The only way i've eaten duck that was fit for a dog was to make it into jerky.
Goose, on the other hand, is great to eat in alot of ways.
@@sog4646 sounds like you suck at cooking, stick to the McChicken lol
BTW- 1st. lol
