Love the video, I think videos like this are extremely important, showing how good work is done and what the process should look like hopefully some young kids will come across this the kind of work to be proud of.
I watched it twice, but didn't see any detail denoting the number of beers consumed (at the end of the work day) thorughout the build. If it was like our pond build...it was a large number! ha Fill 'er up!! (both my glass and the pond!)
Not everyone is an alcoholic... some people... people that do shit... don't like being dehydrated and feeling like shit for the next days work... smoke a joint... get a good night's sleep.
Yeah...I just get tired of people being conditioned to believe that poisoning yourself daily should be a norm... people devoted to the fun of being into the job don't want to hate themselves the next day... and though that looks like a ton of work... I'd be on that shit... that's my idea of a good time right there 😀
@@scottsthaname1 you’re weak if you feel like shit the next day, I normally wake up drunk still depending on how many I’ve drank and if I’m drinking my Budweiser I might get the Amber Heards but that’s about it.
That's was satisfying to watch! When I was a teenager I got to watch a dozer work to dam up the holler at my dad's place to create a small lake. Thanks for sharing 👍
That's amazing to see. I know elevation doesn't show up well on camera, but it became evident after a few minutes that it was much higher near the driveway. So y'all basically built a dam (levee) at the low end to keep in water. Here in flat south Louisiana ponds have to be dug out. Very interesting. Thanks for sharing.
this is one of those times when renting or just buying a Cat D6/d7 sized dozer and selling it right after makes a LOT of sense...those things can move an insane amount of dirt compared to a bobcat/excavator and really tear down deep at the same time and help compact the bed of the pond with the tracks and blade
@@insomthegreat you sell the machine after using it (and dont buy a new one ☠️) just need to build up capital reserves. Still cheaper than hiring someone else!!
@@insomthegreat Dude...a cat D6 used is under $40k easily lol..what are you smoking? i see (5) D4 or D6 sized dozers under $30k on marketplace right now within 100 miles of me, and renting them is under $500/day too...My D6(now my uncles) came from an auction and was $25,300 after fees, got a loan on it and used it for a ocuple weeks, then sold it to my uncle for the same i payed at auction and payed the loan off right, hes had it for 4 years now with no issue lol
it's good to see boys and their big toys playing nicely together, it must take time and trust to assume each other won't take one out permanently. I really like watching BIG contractors with their excavators working in close proximity to humans a couple feet away, they don't duck or flinch when the operator swings in the big ass bucket right over them or next to them, those excavator operators earn their money, no daydreaming on that job!
You would have wanted a concrete apron built around the pipe before it went under the dam. And I would have done a core trench as well. The pond you have here will seep around that pipe, and leech through that dam over time. I am not hating or bashing your video, I just learned a lot through my mistakes as well.
This is a serious, professional, pond building, using full finishing equipment. That roller/ compactor, at the late stages is a great idea, but many smaller contractors do not add that step, just harrow or rake it or drag something like broad piece of framed, weighted, chain link fencing to smooth it, then let it settle or capped of in a light rain - adequate for smaller jobs. The problem there being hoping a major rain and erosion doesnt happen before completion. Some guys do almost all the work on small ponds with just a decent sized dozer, alone. It all depends on how much you can, or want to, invest in the project. Going cheaper and sloppier, with risk of wall failures, not recommended for a big pond.
Unusual used almost as much equipment it took build Hoover Dam, will be a nice but terribly expensive dam for someone. This nice time lapse video so different and clever.
You are one of the only people on youtube that has properly run a roller in their pond. It is mind blowing how many people build a pond and don't roll it in. And no, dozer tracks don't do near as good as a roller.
Beautifully done. So simple and straight forward, with excellent techniques. There's some lake building on UA-cam that is just cringeworthy, but this video shows the way it should be. Looks like a mini Queen Mary!
*Lake Princess* .... LOL. I hate saying that -- I think Adam did a damn fine job. It deserves a better name..... but sense he embraced that name with a t-shirt line!!! Just say'in!
How's she goin'? Wow what a project!!! You don't tackle that on a weekend eh!!! It sure looks some nice. Well landscaped and I like the drain ditches through the bottom of the pond. Very nice and well designed!! Take care!!!
This is step 1 and 2 of building a pond: excavation and compaction . The next steps involve designing the pond for what you want it to do such as swimming, trout habitat, clear water, waterfowl etc. This current pond will be fine for irrigation and some warm water fishing, but it still lacks the habitat for a quality fishery.
Hmm, surprised that the dam was not compacted in lifts. I did concrete construction for years, and always used gravel for fill since it is so plentiful here. Never more than 6 inch lifts without compaction. When ever I saw dirt being used for fill, they would use a sheep's foot roller to compact the soil, and in lifts again. The cat doesn't have enough pounds per square foot pressure to do a good compaction since the tracks are pretty wide and long. I would expect that dam to settle quite a bit in the coming years. Did I miss some thing?
I did dirt work all my life number one i did not see a Key Ditch, all so we all ways put it in six lifts plus always had a sheet foot up front and smooth drum roller in the back.
I start my new job tomorow building a pond. I just became a skid steer oporator. Im also a joureyman ironworker and jouneyman formsetter. This will be my first time working as an oporator. Any tips would be greatly appreaciated
Thanks for the video, did you all do a core Trench? It is recommended by so many people online. Does the pond hold water well? There's also some debate on some other videos as to whether you should have used a sheep's Huff or padded roller instead of the smooth roller even though the smooth roller looks like it puts a nice finish Onnit, instead of looking like a waffle cone. Thanks for a response thanks for a response
Adam, Did you run into any rocks? It does not look like you did. I would say you have some real nice soil on your farm. I wish you hadn't got rid of all that extra topsoil. Your on farm you can always use good grade topsoil.
This would have been so much easier if u take those two Tonka toys away small skid loaders away and saved that money and rented or borrowed a D6 maybe and push that topping up to the joe then instead of the joe grabbing the dirt twice or three × just load it out right as the dozer Britt brought straight into awaiting dump trucks
I'm from Cleveland Ohio and this is amazing, how long did this project take or is it still being made and what's the cost of a job like this I really can't imagine ?
The pond is complete. Its leaking. He dug it wrong. No Keyway. used topsoil for a damn. Just watching this video and seeinng all his rentals and fuel. I bet he has about $40k in it. If he would have paid someone to do it probably would have cost him $30k.
I cannot believe you did all this work and didnt dig a damn?? you are supposed to dig down passed the top soil, example you shouldve dug a trench multiple feet down before just piling topsoil up in a mound and expect it to hold water?! This pond will most definitely leak if not blow out one day. Good luck

A little windmill with a screw drive will do just as well without using any power. Even helps keep it from freezing all the way in a normal winter.
