Yeah I had the exact same thought about the term "pick me man" and how it doesn't make sense since the term "pick me girl" specifically has to do w mysogyny. Glad to see someone else say it.
The one with bruises, stomach pains and tiny cutlery seems very targeted at women with restrictive eating disorders which makes it all the more grim that he's targeting them
I definitely agree that what a “Pick Me” Guy is will be different from what a “Pick Me” Girl is. While there’s definitely a fair amount of Troy Beckers that probably don’t believe in it, the other side of it is guys that do genuinely internalize the criticisms. This can lead some of them to a potential point where they wished they weren’t born as guy. That mindset becomes a paradox since they are then trying to find validation from women yet with their own logic, why would a woman want to validate someone that’s “a terrible guy”.
Saw the title, initially thought, "Pick-Me Men... so, White Knights?" Halfway through the video: Yeah we agree this is p much a branch of "Do not fret over that scoundrel, milady, for you are a QUEEN" White Knights.
I’ve met multiple men like this and I think I’m hindsight I’m thankful I saw right through it. It annoys me because it makes it very difficult to trust cis men.
The fake feminist description reminded me of some lyrics from Taylor Swift’s All Too Well 10 Minute Version “And you were tossing me the car keys ‘Fuck the patriarchy’ keychain on the ground” Men using the phrases and symbols women have used for empowerment to gain our trust then leave once they’ve gotten what they wanted
I love how he thinks he’s the most respectful person he is towards women when he really just has standards so low he’d date women for simply breathing.
Oh, oh no, oh shit. Here I was thinking I would watch a fun video, broaden my horizons maybe learn something, hopefully not forget it. For a second when you started describing the mans videos I was like “ah yes he seems like a douche bag and I hate him”, and then I realized I had literally been given his content and shared it with people because I in fact fell for it, because I am stupid, oh no.
yeah, people in a dark place will be a bit easier of a target. Not so much because they're stupid, but because having a psychologic need met the wrong way still feels like a need being met. Needing something can be quite the haze. I hope it at least as an experience helped you avoid that kind of man from now on
These types of guys are also the types to think they are so special for like, actively enjoying being around their girlfriend? Or still wanting to be around her when she's on her period? Like those fucking POVs of those guys who are like, "I-I bought you some chocolates since you're on your period, are you in love with me yet?"
this reminded me of when i randomly saw him at a mall in like 2019. it’s already awkward seeing a youtuber you watch irl, but it’s amplified when it’s a washed up youtuber you used to watch half a decade before 😭
I also think he is wrong on that. Feminists have been explaining men misogyny hurts them too to sell them feminism for a decade. I think it's more that the pick me girl loathes women in a way that hurts her too when pick me men really just have contempt for women in a way they don't suffer from themselves.
I’m not too sure about that. Internalized misogyny specifically means sexist behavior by women to other women. If you’re not a woman, you can’t have internalized misogyny, just misogyny
@@kate_wn I call it internalized bc I target myself with it. I am not aware of being misogynistic towards other females, but as a female, I do judge myself in a very sexist way. I feel bad for expressing femininity, see my feminine side as a liability and a way of getting assaulted if I show it at all and when writing I accidentally let it bleed onto the paper. This does not effect anyone else, as I'm not a published writer. So yes, I'm a man, with internalized misogyny.
woah i saw a repost of the tiktok where he talks ab little spoons and stomach aches and i didn’t recognize him at all or know any of his content, so i honestly did feel kinda validated why did his bullshit work on me for a second 😭😭😭
As I said to another commenter, you fell for it because it made you feel like a need was being met. With time you learn. I just hope next time you won't get caught in this.
I mean I think you could make the argument trans pick-me men would be one instance where they're navigating the world with internalized misogyny because you have a lot of trans men who were still socialized as women or girls under misogynist hierarchies, but it would be unimportant to focus on or call them out specifically because they still fall under all the same blanket criticisms I have under any pick-me man
I would say pick me guys & nice guys & incels are the same thing. But pick me guys hate themselves more openly as manipulation to make women feel bad for them Nice guys think being nice & a good person means women have to like them & praise themselves more openly Incels is the umbrella which nice guys & pick me guys fall under. However is could also be the alpha guys with toxic masculinity, probably have a podcast, & more.
And I would have thought the phrase would refer to toxic masculinity like if pick me girl refers to a woman who tear other women down then you'd think the reverse would refer to Men who tear other men down in order to make themselves look like alpha males or whatever

a pick me girl puts other women down for male validation, so in my opinion a pick me boy would be someone who puts other men down for female validation
Masculinity under a male dominated society that has a very rigid definition of what's acceptably male. Gender roles in general are most often a performance overall of whats expected unless someone is intentionally breaking from the role whether it comes naturally to them or not. Feminine men are an example of people breaking this role whether they like it or not as it doesn't fit the broad definition that's been historically crafted. From my experience seeing the term "pick me man" it'd been men who were more clearly desperately attempting to play the role for male validation. Partially due to the fact that although many of these men had wives ect who should be able to validate them, they had been diluted over time into feeling that a womans opinion could never hold the value that a mans does. This kind of culture can be seen not always but frequently in luxury car owners, gym bros, bikers, and much much more. Its the act of a man rejecting the abundance of female validation in seek of male validation (true validation) . We can and should have an understanding and level of empathy towards men who have fallen into this false mindset. Yes it is more detrimental to women overall but it's still harmful to men and more importantly future innocent boys aswell who didn't ask for a society that expects so much of them. Also not necessarily arguing against the video but it's just not how its beinf used by and large when people specifically use the term "pick me male"
13:31 You know, you never really fully FEEL the truth of Nick's videos until you feel it personally. I think pick-me men do exist in a way that is very similar to pick-me women. It just already has a term: toxic masculinity. Acting traditionally masculine in order to be liked more by other men. The pick-me is not one that tries to gain favor from the ‘opposite’ gender. A pick-me is one that tries to gain favor from those in power, even if doing so hurts them. That’s my take, anyway.
It annoys me when men make "relatable jokes" about things women experience as if they are like in on the joke. Especially if its something about like periods and they are a cis man.
