CONGRATULATIONS FOR YOUR WONDERFUL "FRUIT" CROP! I LOVE TO CAN, FREEZE, AND DEHYDRATE. I LOVE TO SEE YOU AND YOUR FAMILY HOW TO WORK TOGETHER TO HELP YOUR FAMILY LEARN HOW TO MAKE AND WORK TO GROW AND PREPARE THEIR OWN FOOD! IM WONDERING IF YOU MADE JELLY WITH YOUR CRABAPPLES AND MAYBE SPICED THEM FOR THE FREEZER. THEY ARE SO BEAUTIFUL AND TASTY. I USED TO HAVE A HUGE CRABAPPLE TREE, SEVERAL DIFFERENT VARIETIES OF APPLES. I HAVE A WONDERFUL OVEN APPLEBUTTER RECIPEE GIVEN TO MY MOTHER IN LAW 40 YEARS AGO THAT WAS GIVEN TO HER BY HER MOTHER. SO THE RECIPE HAS GONE THROUGH 3 GENERATIONS! BEST WISHES FOR ALL OF WHAT YOU ARE TRYING TO GROW! I STILL CAN BUT DON'T RAISE A GARDEN. NOW WE DRIVE TO DIFFERENT LOCATIONS AND PURCHASE FROM FARMERS AND ORCHARDS. BEST WISHES TO YOU AND YOUR LOVELY FAMILY!
Tom, if you're reading comments, I know it's not important or a real concern right now...far from it. But, regarding Andrea's concern about the poor vegetable growth. We had the same issue and we ended up using rabbit, sheep and llama manure. It tripled our growth and production. Start collecting the rabbit poo by itself over the winter. You can add it directly to the soil. Something to distract you maybe.....?
I very much love watching your sweet family. Your kids are amazing! I watch at least 4-5 of your videos a day! Your kids are delightful! I love to watch you shop! I love to watch you sew! You amaze me in all that you do. I learn from your minimalism practice due to not having much space. You are so very good at that! I learn from your sewing. I ordered your blouse pattern to try and your daughters dress patterns. I do like your style and choice of fabrics. I am thankful to have found your channel!
Sweet little Claudia in her diaper and jacket :) your family never fails to make me smile. I’m in college and even on my toughest days I can’t wait to get home and watch your vlogs! Andrea you are so full of wisdom and I learn so much from you at 21 years old. I will carry all of your wisdom with me when I have a family of my own some day! Wishing your family a very Merry Christmas! :)
Teaching the kids survival w/ taking care of fruits and vegs etc.raising,storage,canning,freezing.drying, is very educational. U can not get this from a book..Keep up the good work..love your vlogs..
Your garden produced a lot more than mine. Our weather was too hot this year. So awesome all the canning you did. There's nothing like the taste of homemade compared to store bought. Love the table and benches!
Hey Andrea! I’ve been watching your family videos for a few months now and I just wanted to say it’s really nice watching something on youtube that is wholesome and just about family, thank you for making these videos! I love all the little ideas you have and make! Have a merry Christmas! ♥️
I find this crazy I live in NYC and we're so dependent on grocery stores for produce, i didn't even know we can garden for our own food. it's great you have all this space to grow all types of fruits and veggies, I hope I can learn and do the same in the future you're such a hardworking mom not only do you homeschool but you go above and beyond for your family you're really hardworking I wish I had that kind of working incentive
we once made apple wine and it became so fizzy it blew the corks out lol. We had to open it in the barn and ended up with a little bit in the bottle not a good make for us hope yours is much better. Have a blessed day Nicole UK#
I've had a garden for 4 years. This year was not good. I think it was lack of bees! The first year I had a bumblebees hive I purposely did not disturb and the crop was perfectly bountiful, it was like a mini Eden of green. Bees are important little helpers!
I so enjoyed watching this since the snow has fallen and winter is here. I love gardening, I just wish the season was a bit longer here in ND. Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year! ❤️🎄🎄🎄🎄❤️
I wondered what they did with all the leaves I saw some of the collecting, love your garden vlogs even though was not a good growing year, you do spend time with all your children. Even Thomas I saw an older Christmas you put out and he is playing with Sophia as a baby, though these days he seems to do a lot of selling to and bribing of his brothers, its done with love, which is the main thing.
Your garden has me motivated for next year!!! We are still only getting crab apples from our trees, but we might get a little more serious about their care this year.
Andrea, i used to collect old/foreign coins when i was younger. I realized I haven't looked at them in so long. Would Judah like them the most? There are a couple of repeats in there to share.
Do you have any instructional videos on your gardening system? I am so impressed and inspired. We have a half acre and lots of shade..but I do have a lot of sun in the middle of my yard. Our gardens have been horrible the last few years. Did you buy special dirt to be brought in for the raised Garden areas? Do you compost etc? I know you are super busy with the Holidays so no rush! It's Tiffany Bayer (UA-cam won't let me change my name back to blessed Bayers on here... oops)
I'm new to your vlog, so forgive me if I mention something that you covered in one of your spring vlogs. You've been mentioning that the garden didn't do as well as you'd hoped. I have a suggestion. Next spring, before you plant anything, get the soil tested for ph levels. Test at least one spot in every raised bed. If it's too low, add some lime. Also, add some organic fertilizer to each bed, if you don't already do this, to increase the fertility of the garden plots. Have a wonderful, blessed Christmas!
I don't know why, but the end was a little bit emotional for me. Now I have to wait for the next garden season. I loved this season and I got the decision, to start planting in our garden too.
Do your children do these chores with out and fuss? I have one helper and the other is really hard to get him to do anything garden related lol. I love your vids you are a true inspiration to us all.
We have a couple that aren't as eager to help as the others. They don't fuss, necessarily, but they're more likely to disappear are have other Very Important Things to attend to when it's time to go out. (That's true for them no matter what kind of chores we're doing, though.) :)
I have been thinking about your garden, as I am also a Back to Eden fan. I know that sometimes, in some areas certain crops or even multiple garden crops just don't do well, and was wondering if that was the case in your area. If not, I wondered if perhaps you weren't getting enough green matter into your mulch. Paul G chips both branches and leaves, and I think I remember him talking about how it is important to have the green in there was well as the wood. Just a thought and not at all a critique as I know that we don't see everything that goes on there at Millsbrook Cottage. In any case, your full pantry shelves made me excited for y'all! I dream of a time when I can garden again and learn how to can and have shelves that look like that.
I'm not sure what to think. The biggest issue was simply that our seeds wouldn't germinate. Most of them were leftovers from last season, so maybe they got too warm during storage? I don't know. We planted cabbages twice and only ended up with one cabbage. We didn't get a single carrot to sprout. The few things that did grow stayed very small. I'm not sure if it's due to the mulch or not. We've always mulched the garden pretty heavily, but it's been with store-bought mulch in all of the years past. A lot of other local gardeners had similar experiences, so maybe it was something with the weather this year? One woman I talked to had two gardens this year. In one location her garden was prolific. In the other she was experiencing the same thing we were. Let us hope it was just "one of those years."
Andrea Mills I have seen times here in SW Missouri where nobody could get a tomato to grow and there have been times when I ate a ripe on on June 22nd fir my birthday. I have never had big bell pepper plants even trying different years in different locations. Perhaps this mystery of what will grow and what won't is all part of the fun!
Andrea Mills Andrea, I think I have that same table. I want to restain mine a darker color. I love that color. What is the name of that stain?? I love, love the "MOM"!!😊
You can make them into applesauce or jelly just like regular apples. I had hoped to use them to make pectin for next year's jelly-making, but I didn't get it done.
andrea-i know that u are a amazing muma nd know your plants but tomatoes are part of the nightshade family(deadly),its just the fruit that isn't,sorry x
Potatoes are also part of the nightshade family, as well eggplants, peppers and many other foods. Deadly Nightshade is usually used to refer to the particular plant "Belladonna" which is actually used as a medicinal. Of course, if you're sensitive to plants in the nightshade family, maybe they could all be considered deadly!
These vlogs will be cherished for generations to come. They are complete bliss! 💖

LOVED this vlog....You have such a rich life! I wish all families would garden. The gifts the garden bring us seem endless.

This is one of the videos I most enjoyed! 👍🏼 your porch looks great 👍🏼

I'm sure Judah would love them!
nice garden wrap up, dear
What a great garden wrap up. That table will be so great when spring and summer come. Mills Market looks great! Merry Christmas!

Hi there! I was wondering...next time you guys prune your apple trees, would you mind making a video giving us some pointers?
I don't know why, but the end was a little bit emotional for me. Now I have to wait for the next garden season. I loved this season and I got the decision, to start planting in our garden too.
When tom is putting stain on furniture he should use a cloth to put it on it eliminates brush lines and hairs.
Congratulations on 39000 subscribers!
I just got a Pressure Canner for Christmas! I want to can my own jellies and tomato sauce next year :)

It is crazy how similar Justus and Eden look... I mistook them for twins to begin with
They do look so alike; many people think they're twins. They're actually the furthest apart in age of any of our kids. There's 27 months between them.
Do you keep snowball in the house or in the cage during winter?
No, he stays out all winter. Animals (like people) adapt well to the weather if they're allowed to.
We kept rabbits outside growing up. With a box of hay they did great. :)
That's how it is for Snowball; he's got his cozy hay and he's a happy camper.
Andrea Mills Andrea, I think I have that same table. I want to restain mine a darker color. I love that color. What is the name of that stain?? I love, love the "MOM"!!😊
First!
You're so weird. :)
Andrea Mills What is the color of that stain? I like that. I have the same table except the legs are white.
What can you do with crab apples ?
You can make them into applesauce or jelly just like regular apples. I had hoped to use them to make pectin for next year's jelly-making, but I didn't get it done.
