The fact that he puts in the time and work to make songs that are relevant to so many people is probably what Tafacunu is praising. You could argue that this is a pretty big demographic so it makes sense from a financial perspective, but neither of us know if that's the driving force or if it's his days living as a "normal person". After all he's apparently worth a few mil which is obviously far from broke but he's also what, in his 50s? With the perspective from which he writes, and only being worth a few million after such a successful career, it's hard to believe that he hasn't experienced a lot of this himself at some point.
i use to just get by.. did it all on my own. now im sitting with over 250k in 3 years. grew up with nothing didnt finish school. got clean stayed out of prison. now i feel free with no worries. all because i got up and pushed hard everyday without doing any drugs and without a family. i will always remember where i came from. thanks everlast for helping out on those dark lonely nights.

i remember the first time i ever heard this song i was with my uncle johnny in his garage he just wanted someone to hang out with as he was fixing my mom's truck he offered for me to smoke some weed with him ,back then i had never really even smoked my mom was pissed when she found out lol i remmeber it was raining and their we where under a garage watching the rain as he fittIed with my moms air conditioning in her truck ,i knew nothing about cars and really had no interest in learning really ,but i was curious so johnny talked about what he was doing and would ask me to get him a tool and laugh and make a sarcastic comment about how i need be a man and learn this stuff lol i never remembered anything he showed me probably because I was high at the time he had just recently lost his job and he was struggling and remember this song coming out of radio as we layed on the ground looking up into this 2001 dodge rams under carriage he would point out all these different parts and i would nod my head :) like yep . miss you Johnny i hope your in a better place now where you dont have to struggle so much i love you man
