Ticking - Elton John

- I've been receiving a lot of requests on this song from Elton John's album Caribou from 1974, so I thought I should do this as well. The song is one of Elton's longest songs with a running time on 7.33 minutes on the album. The song contains some of Bernie Taupins finest lyrics and is about gun violence at the time. A song that was 40 years ahead of its time.
This particular version is inspired by Elton's version from Madison Square Garden in 1999 from the Medusa tour.

I have always been a fan of Elton and I must say. Your version of Ticking is simply amazing! You obviously are a gifted pianist. Thank you for sharing your interpretation of this classic tune
For years I was hoping to hear the piano only version of this wonderful song, and after a request for it last week, you've done it. Thank you so much. Love listening to your work.
As an avid fan of Elton's music since the late 60s, early 70s, and beyond...I have to say, your skills on the piano are amazing. As a vocalist, I'm constantly on the lookout for karaoke versions of my favorite songs. I play acoustic guitar but have absolutely no aptitude for playing the piano. I sang along with this version and have to say, I couldn't have asked for a better piano version of this particular song. I'm truly impressed...Thank you.
Always loved this song and what an excellent job.The song also means more today than ever.
Quite sadly I agree.
This is one of Elton's best songs imo. This song is beautiful and Elton's playing is wonderful. You've matched that with your brilliant performance. Thanks
I love this song and I'm so glad to have found this. As someone who struggles with some severe mental health issues and has lived in silence for far too long, it really speaks to me and so with this I can do a cover of it with my bandmates. Thank you so much :)
Have you done the cover? Is it on UA-cam?
Found it

@@mercurymcmusicnstuff7691 great job! I linked it above
@@brendalg4 great :D ty
We have the same taste in music. Your left hand rhythm is incredible. You have perfect time
I was able to sing this, remembering all of Bernie Taupin's lyrics and in perfect time to your playing. It is my favorite from Sir Elton John. Thank you very much. Excellent!
Wooooooow! I absolutely love this song and you performed it flawlessly. What a stunning rendition, very well done!
How poignant that this song is more relevant now in the USA than it was in '74 when written. To all those lost since then, the thousands, it's within the next generations power to bring it to an end and make laws you want from your country for the future. I will always have a deep love in my heart for Americans..
great job, great talent. Thank you for sharing, A fan of Belgium
Absolutely wonderful.
...hervorragend - wirklich hervorragend!
(I always liked this particular song since its release back then. strangely enough, this song was underrated from my point of view if you can put it that way)
Wow - spot on
Echoing some others, you do a great job capturing Elton's chord voicings and rhythm. Thank you for posting this. I am going to see if I can get some of your riffs.
Excellent!
Well done you crafty devil! Bravo, bravo.
That was very good!
Dang you killed that bro. Awesome 👏
hello perfect techniq pianoman and color musical im a great fan of sir elton since 1980 try burning building or it aint gonna be easy i love this title good continuation
Can you play 60 years on? I like the early piano only version which he played at the Troubadour in his debut in America
Awesome
People always tell me I play like Elton John a lot. I always think I wish. I think I just accent my chords a bit like him. You on the other hand play like Elton Lol. For the last week I’ve been putting your tunes on my play list. Wish you listed an email. I’d love to talk music with you. I’ve never met anyone under 50 who knows this stuff. It’s awkward crocodile rock lol
Thanks for the kind words. Glad that you like my playing :)
What city do you live in? I’d love to see you play if you play out anywhere. I play too. I’m gonna learn I’m still standing I think it will be good practice. I love your version.
Incredible version of one of the best of elton and bernie. would you consider selling a MIDI version of your cover??
Thanks, I have no problem with that whatsoever. I don't have the equipment though.
Question: Do you know how to play the organ? This one would be interesting on the organ
superb as usual. a take on a live version of I don't wanna go on with you like that would be amazing or sad songs say so much
as a matter of interest, what do you think of Ticking? Where would you place it in the pantheon of rock ballads?
Thanks for asking! It really is a hidden gem. The song highlights how Elton is able to interpret Bernie Taupin's word into a song, where the melody really emphasizes the songs spirit and atmosphere. It's one of the greatest tracks they ever made lyrically and musically in my humble opinion. Too bad it never really got any recognition due to its length, although I realize that a lot of people do seem to appreciate the song. Definitely a highlight on one of Elton John's lesser great albums. What do you think?
@@LimeCovers Ticking is in my top five Elton John songs. And your version is outstanding.
One of the great prophet pantheons. Elton really brings Bernie's words to life here. Brilliant composition and beautifully covered here. Bravo!
I wanted to do this song for a long time. But I lack the fine muscle control for this (due to an error during my tonsil operation so I didn't get any breath for several minutes).
So I downloaded this (yes, there are tricks for that), I lowered it from F to D digitally to match my voice and I added drums, bass, a bit of extra piano and vocals to it. I hope to have the videoclip finished today. You can find it on my channel: the title is "bedtijd" (Dutch translation).
PS I always mention credits on my videoclips. Who shall I put there as the pianist? I can't put "LimeCovers" there, can I?
Thanks, if you prefer my real name is Emil Christensen
@@LimeCovers Got it! I was just going to start putting the videoclip together, so now I can put your real name in the credits.

The piano that you see there is really a piano that Elton John played on (downloaded from the internet). The pianist is a ventriloquist dummy disguised as Elton John (glasses).
