One of my favourite things about BearGhost is just how theatrical all the songs feel. A Lot of the songs feel like there is a story being told and they just feel really fun to listen to.

This came up in my recs (fan of the band) and love hearing about the audio engineering side! There's definitely a lot to take in for the album, and I think having the three singles (Sirens, Banky Blaine's, and Rivers is a Vampire) so spread out leading up to the album definitely helped with how bombastic the whole cd is. By the time those songs come up, it feels like a reprieve of something familiar you already know. I know it helped me a lot in that regard when I did get my hands on the album.
The extra 2 tracks are one of them talking a bit, and the other "reprise" is "The Wailing Waltz", an acoustic rendition of "Sirens" which I find absolutely lovely. Another on the slower methodical side without the backing choir vocals or percussion. Just really great to listen to.
I'd definitely recommend Tally Hall! They were a band in the early to late 00s that released two albums (Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum, and Good&Evil). They're a fun band and definitely a little more light hearted. I listened to that first album almost nonstop in university alongside Jukebox the Ghost and We Are Scientists. They released some singles as well that were a lot of fun.
(Additional fun fact! while Ghost Bear is the band, Bear Ghost is a character in a Ninja Turtles cartoon who is a luchador wrestler.)

It’s not my kind of music, but man this band can clearly play well. The singer is fantastic with harmonies. They are also good with space between music which causes tension and allows the music to hit more when they step it up. Yet again, wouldn’t listen to them by myself, but I respect the effort they clearly put in

Bear Ghost are felt to be part of the "adventure rock" genre. If you have an interest in poking around further on your own time, The Venetia Fair is also a good adventure rock band but have sadly disbanded.

Something I noticed about Bear ghost, it’s hard to tell what they are saying till you know the lyrics. Then you can hear what they are saying perfectly

This album is definetely one of my favorites I've heard this year, absolutely love it. It really pulled me out of a musical rut I've been going through. Along with Atomic Guava - Peasants of the Future which i also highly recommend. They are also a very playful, a litttle tongue-in-cheekish metal band that deserves more attention, although quite different from Bear Ghost.

Loved the review! At the start you mentioned tally hall and I think they would be a great artist to look into, they have some of the adventure/experimental aspects but are on the slower side. So probably easier to review and digest.

@@PatrickMusilekno worries! This album is definitely a LOT to take in, and rewards repeat listens VERY much. Their EP (Your Parents Are Only Marginally Disappointed in Your Musical Taste) and Blasterpiece (their first album) are a bit easier to digest.
In terms of the cursing in Vulture… I’d suggest reading the lyrics on that one, those F-bombs make more sense when placed in context:
“If I abandon dignity and bend my knees could I still die in peace?
      I’m just so f’n tired
      you’ve taken everything
and still you think that you deserve our love, so ego goes
      F your hallelujah”
Basically the lyrics center around abuses and predation in the church, which I definitely feel helps justify the cursing (of course without that context, I totally understand the eye rolls 😂)
Did you recognize the “we interrupt your death metal for some heavy news” from Community? (I see your Troy and Abed In The Morning mug back there!) season 3, the Halloween episode where they’re all telling scary stories

The only way to get Mr. Patrick to listen to your lyrics: swear constantly

  • @tylerstanley819

Excellent analysis and putting into words what I appreciate so much about the album and band. It’s more than the sum of its parts and tickles the part of my brain that craves technical complexity with high energy and constant movement. It’s like every time I listen to it, I find something new that I didn’t hear before.

  • @PokemonEmppu

Wow. I think its kind of childish that a single swear can make you lower your opinion of a song.

    • @PatrickMusilek
      @PatrickMusilek  4 місяці тому

I think its immature of them to just use one swear.

    • @PokemonEmppu

Oh? why is that? I believe it adds emphasis to the spoken words, especially because its not overused. @@PatrickMusilek

Just bumped into your reaction since i am a fairly new fan of Ghost Bear.
And yes they are a riot! So much to listen to.
However do listen to necromancer dancing then you will truly understand what euphoria is about. :)
Btw, i saw somewhere that they are in a category called Adventure rock, the originality is of such things as Ninja Sex Party, but honesty awesome band.
As for your reaction, i enjoyed it, specially that you actually listened through the entire thing.
Although, the 8bit sounds are for me awesome, had the ns when it came out, then atari, then a 286 pc and been a avid gamer since the early 90s.
    Anyway, subscribed.

Thanks! I'm excited to see what Bear Ghost does in the future. I think a slightly more focused album with some sort of through-line could help them feel less overly chaotic!

I think you'd really get a big kick out of a song I've been listenting to non-STOP ever since it dropped just a little over a month ago. Please check out "Extras" by the super talented Death Metal singer Molly Daisy Scarpine, my absolute favorite song of recent times, cannot recommend it hard enough with all the words available in the english language 🥰

dude am i going crazy . why does the audio glitch at 46:10 and 46:20 and flash to some of there older songs ?is that part of the song? or your editing? because it sounds cool.

      @Jojo-210 2 місяці тому

Jiminiy is probably one of the best albums of this new generation of bands
