🌱 Directions:
Rinse/ scrub a potato (or peel it if you wish!)
Slice it as thinly as you like
Put the slices 1 by 1 onto a plate lined with parchment paper
Season if you'd like (I tried bbq sauce, hot sauce, ketchup... all worked great! Any dry seasonings you like would work well here too)
Put in microwave on high power for 1 minute. Flip the chips and put back in the microwave for 1 minute. If they are still soft, start microwaving at 15 second intervals until they are your desired crispness. (Take note of how long it takes for your microwave so when you make them again, you will know how long to cook them for.) Mine usually took about 3 minutes. Enjoy!
Anyone else so surprised by this snack hack!? 😜😜 BTW... No, my microwave doesn't chop potatoes... but I wish it did! Enjoy! 🤗🌱
It's 10 p.m. and I've already brushed my teeth. I'm gonna force myself to go to sleep now so I can make these bad boys first thing in the a.m. Thanks so much.
Hahaha hope you got a good night's sleep and was able to try these out today! 😄😄 Enjoy! 🤗
@@LetsEatPlants Finally got to try this. Takes my microwave about 4 minutes to get the job done, but it's worth the wait. Even without salt or any other kind of topping, they're very satisfying...crisp and tasty. Thanks again.
@@raystaar Oooh, good to know it was 4 minutes for you! Someone else commented theirs took 4 minutes as well. And very glad to hear they worked out well! I agree, I liked them even plain. 😁😁
I sure APPRECIATE that you are sharing your time and teaching us beginners thank you so much

This has to be one of the best videos I’ve seen. Will be trying this out today
Awesome! Enjoy! 🤗🤗
I can't believe I never thought of this! I love crisping all sorts of things in the microwave! Looks good!
They're delish!! Enjoy! 🤗
This is an awesome idea!
I thought so too! Definitely had to share it with you all. 🤗💕
Wild! I was just going through a potato chip craving, perfect timing!
Hahaha I love when that happens! Enjoy 😊
Cant wait to try this! The one thing that I do enjoy eating that’s not oil free would be chips. But at last you have shared the solution! 🙌🏼
Yes, my husband is a huge chip fan as well! 😆😆 I was really excited to see this hack and so glad it worked out! 🤩
I can’t wait to try this! I have to watch my sodium intake now and every now and then I
miss having chips! I was looking for a chip alternative and this is great! You are a life saver! Thank you! 😃
Aww that's great to hear! I think you'll love these. 🤩🤩
Yum! And easy!
Yes! So easy! I’m hooked. 😅😅
I need some low fat snacks, what a plethora of innovative recipes you got there. Subbed!
Wonderful! So happy to have you here. 😁😁
had no idea, thank you
You're so welcome! Enjoy! 🤗🌱
I'm going to try these with Old Bay seasoning.
Oooh great idea!
I happened to do the same thing with beetroot sticks and lotus root slices. It works not bad considering the effort level~
Oh nice!! Very good to know that it works with both of those. I will have to give them a try. 🤩🤩 Thanks!
Great idea, sometimes it's great to have a crunchy potato chip. Enjoyed your tips on getting the timing right. Potatoes are the answer to so many questions, lol. :-)
Hahahha potatoes ARE the answer to so many questions!!! Love that. 😄😄🥔🥔 So glad you enjoyed. 😊
love potatoes chip's
OMG I can't wait to try this!!! I'm from Canada but live in the States now, heck yes to ketchup!
Hahaha yes!! I am the opposite of you (American living in Canada) and wow I didn’t know the magic of ketchup chips until I moved here! 😂😂😂 You will love these. 😊😊
I will definitely be trying this out!! Just bought a big bag of potatoes today too. I'm really excited about this one! :)
Oh yay! Perfect timing then! 🤗💕🥔
@@LetsEatPlants I tried it out this evening! They were delicious! Was just tricky getting the microwave timing right, but overall super easy to make!
@@marciagosse8947 Yes, it took me a little while to get the timing right too! (Hence the first burned batch. 😂😂) What timing ended up working for you? And YAY! Glad they were yummy!
@@LetsEatPlants the two minutes per side worked a bit better for me
@@marciagosse8947 Good to know! I think that could be helpful for others! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
I'm so surprised by this! I have to make this asap.
Hehehe, I was too! Enjoy! 🤗💕
I sure hope you are going to do a lot of recipes videos like this to help US BEGINNERS PLEASE
Nice. 😋🥔. Plus you make them in smaller batches so it's hard to eat a bag's worth in one shot!
Hahahah true! Although I made about 3 potatoes worth and ate them all. Didn’t even feel bad about it! 😅😅 But yes, definitely easier to control portions this way too. 😁
Great idea! I will have to try it. Who would have thought of WFPB potato chips and cheeze? Yumm!
Hehehe YES! All our WFPB dreams are coming true. 😂😂😂🙌🏼🙌🏼
I love the Terra brand "Sweets & Beets" chips- sweet potato and beets. Wonder if beets would work? My favorite chip is Utz dark russet kettle chips, so I would probably enjoy the "burned chips." 😉
Oooh good question! I wonder if they would as well. Definitely worth a try! I love Terra brand as well. 😊😊
Whoa! Such a clever recipe thanks for sharing 💞 will definitely be giving these a go 😊 I bought 4kg of potatoes yesterday!!! Which in our vegan PB world probably doesn't seem like much 😂
Wow!!! 4kg would be a lot for me! Although maybe not in winter… so many more cooked foods/ comfort foods during winter… so that actually makes sense for you guys right now! 😊😊 Yes, give these a go. Curious how others end up liking them. 😄
@@LetsEatPlants I'm crunching on the chips now! Soooo good. 5-6 mins in my microwave... The microwave I have is a bit lame but perhaps I didn't get them as thin. But still awesome! Perfect for an afternoon snack here 😊
I bought huge bag to try making mash potato chips 🥔🥔🥔 bit labour intensive as you have to leave the mash for 48 hours in the fridge!
Microwaves vary in power and intensity, not heat. Intensity is also due to the size of the oven.
Ah good to know, thanks!
Sweet chili sauce is an awesome seasoning. 🙂
Yummm!
Made this! So good but had to put it in the microwave for 5 minutes then air fry for 5
Oh great idea to do them with the air fryer as well! Love that! 🤩🤩
I have a vid where i do potato chips in the microwave but used olive oil, so I was surprised that these work without oil! Aaahh, if only you'd seen my parchment paper trick vid in time for this production. 🙂 And doesn't it take about the same time to peel the potato as it would to clean it? lol
I was surprised as well about the no oil! And omg YES, your parchment hack would work perfectly for this. 🤩🤩 If only I had seen it sooner. 😅 Hahahaha nooo... I scrub my potatoes so well (maybe too well? 🤔) so for some reason that always takes me longer than peeling. 😂😂😂
Hey nice , chips are my weakness
Enjoy! 😃
Excellent recipe Maddie but unfortunately I don't have a microwave😭 so I would have to make them with an alternative method. Love 🥰the video and love 💕Maddie &Q.
No worries! If you want to try sometime you can definitely do them in the oven too. 😄 210C for 5-10 mins (time will depend on your oven!). Watch them carefully the first batch so you know how long your oven takes! 😊😊
I was going to try in the oven to see, but now I know! Thanks so much!!
I have a cute little round slotted rack for making a bunch of microwave chips at once... and couldn't (or wouldn't) do it without my cheap little mandolin, uniform thin slices in seconds! And to anyone who has one or is thinking of getting one, or even if you do a lot of grating or chopping...make sure to get the digit saving kevlar cutting gloves!!! I bought 5 pairs on Amazon and use them daily!
I have always wondered if those slotted chip makers work! 🤩🤩 And OMG I think I need those gloves for *everyday* use. 😂😂 I need to get a mandolin too! I've been thinking of that or another chopper device... I cut wayyyy too many veggies in this way of eating not to have one. 😜 Good tips, Char! 🙏🏻
@@LetsEatPlants The rack works better with some potatoes than others, they tend to "lean" into each other and stick if the chips are too big. An adjustable mandolin however, is the bomb! The stupid holders/pushers that come with them are mostly useless, but those gloves are perfect, I use them for everything I do with sharp tools in the kitchen! Eating this way sure does require a lot of prep and anything that makes it easier/quicker is great. I've been thinking about getting one of those dicer/chopper things too... but so many gadgets so little space! 🙃
@@CharGC123 Ok definitely putting the adjustable mandolin and the gloves on my list then! 🤩🤩 I agree.. gadgets are helpful and necessary… but there’s a limit! 😂😂
Great
😋😋
underrated channel. comment for algorithm ✨✨
🥰🥰🥰 thank you!
Spray with vinegar too!
Yummy great idea! 😃😃
Ah man! What a time to have a food intolerance to potatoes! It doesn't include sweet potatoes though so I will have to give them a try.
Oh no! Well according to Dr. Greger, sweet potatoes are much healthier anyway! 😅😅 Yes, definitely give these a try with sweet potatoes when you're having a crispy/crunchy craving! 🍠🍠
Bye Bye Lay's, its time to kick the bag to the curve and take out the homemade potatoes. ❤❤
😅🙌🏻🙌🏻
Well, I haven’t had a microwave for over two decades.
Whaaaaaaaa???
Right!!?? I didn't even believe it until I saw it with my own eyes. 😂😂😂
Hello 👋
I may have to purchase a microwave 😂
😂😂😂 I wouldn't go that far! They can easily be made in the oven (probably even toaster oven if you have one!?). 400F for 5-10 mins depending on your oven. Watch them carefully the first batch (they go from zero to burned QUICKLY) but after you know your oven's temp & timing you'll be able to just set a timer for the next batch.
Let's Eat Plants thanks! I use microwave at work to heat sweat potatoes, but have managed to live without my own.
@@NoPrivateProperty It's so easy to live without one if you don't have it.. and then so easy to use one when you do. 😂😂
As a Canadian May I say that ketchup chips are an embarrassment for us! 😂😂😂
Hahaha they’re my husband’s favorite! 😅
Girl you won't have to mortgage the house to buy a mandolin; they cost $15-$45 CAD and they are very versatile. You can slice/grate/julienne so many different vegetable/cheeses. So really why you no have one? Nice video though.
😂😂😂 This comment made my day. I am honestly scared of them!! I don’t trust myself to use one.. maybe with a safety glove? I’m very clumsy though. 😆🙈
@@LetsEatPlantscut-resistant glove for the win 🏆 🙌 👌
it's a microwave oven!
Yes it is! Definitely different from a convection or conventional oven though. 😊
That’s seriously a lot of effort for something that goes down so quickly 😅
😂😂😂 Facts! I much prefer air popped popcorn these days just for that reason.
@@LetsEatPlants I feel you on that one!
A little concerned about the green colour on the potato you use........
Hahaha you know.. I didn't even see that until I was editing the video, so I think it's the lighting! It wasn't green in person. I do appreciate the concern though. Definitely don't eat green potatoes. 😄😄
@@LetsEatPlants LOL 🤣 glad to hear it was just the lighting. Phew. All good x
@@sugarbabylove1000 😂😂🙏🏼🙏🏼
Your thumbnail says "no oven." What is it that you think a microwave oven is? (hint: it's an oven).
Is it? I’ve never heard it referred to as being the *same* as an oven. 🤔 Here’s what ChatGPT says: “While both the microwave and conventional oven are appliances used for cooking, they operate differently. A microwave uses electromagnetic radiation to heat food by agitating water molecules within it, while an oven uses convection, conduction, and radiation to cook food by surrounding it with hot air. So, while they both serve similar purposes, they achieve cooking through different methods.”
@@LetsEatPlants"it servers similar purpose" 🤡
Probably spending more money on energy to run that microwave than to just buy a bag of chips
Hahaha, it’s to have chips without oil.. not cheap chips. 😝 Have you seen store-bought ones without oil!? 😳 Would love to be able to buy some!
@@LetsEatPlants ok fair enough, but as a former student in nutritional science, I don't think one should fear oil, although the oils they use for commercial chips (crisps) are not good oils(generally speaking).
This hack doesn't surprise me as I use the microwave to make kale chips, but I've never tried potato chips. I'll have to try it as I'm curious to see how they compare to chips made the traditional way.
@@teklife Agree! I am not completely oil-free, but yes a lot of the commercial chips use some not so great oils. I also just try to reduce where I can to remove some of the empty calories. 😊
Oooh good to know about the kale chips! I didn’t know the microwave could be used for those too! Thanks for the tip. 🤩 Let me know if you end up giving the potato chips a try too. 🙂
I knew there was a catch! A microwave? pfffff! 😠
How about using the sun?
You could try a solar oven! My mom used to have one and loved it. 😊 Not sure they would get crispy though… we never tried chips in there. 🤔 Might be worth an experiment if you have one. Or you could also try the oven or toaster oven. I’ve read 400F for 5-10 mins is best. Time will depend on your oven, so watch the first batch carefully to determine. 😄
@@LetsEatPlants I have a rather light parabolic cooker, that a pot would sit in the middle(kickstarter that never took off after funded and backers got items). Hmmm, at least that got me thinking about making a aluminum foil lined cardboard solar oven to try baking.
