In this episode I share an insight into my home build golf simulator / studio.
Originally I started with a simple hitting net, then progressed to purchase my first launch monitor, a SkyTrak. This needed somewhere to use it indoors, so I decided to purchase a “party marquee”, which worked surprisingly well given its apex was 3.5 meters in height. This worked great for almost a year, but then the UK got battered with storms, which the marquee survived rather well against. However when the “10 year” storm broke, Storm Arwen, it was a few MPH too much for the huge ground anchors & it up-rooted the tent & destroyed it.
By this point however, the experiment had proven a success and as a family we were all keen to replace the new outdoor space with a permanent structure. It needed to be one that had multiple functions for all the family to enjoy and so “Oscars” was the result.
Oscars is a golf studio, entertainment area & home cinema. To do all of these things, the golf sim had to be something that would be hidden away when not in use. In this video, you will see how I achieved that with some clever design & a lot of hard labour. We now have a fantastic venue for parties, cinema & enjoying my love of golf.

Very nice, I built myself something similar but with breeze blocks, also got a bar in the corner. Get yourself a Perfect draft machine for the bar.

Amazing set up. What is the minimum size needed for the actual golf element for a simple golf only room, how small would you say would be the minimum height, length, width etc would be. I have limited garden space but feel I can get a single use room in if I had an idea of what realistically would be the minimum size. Thanks in anticipation.
@@nellyandbert the bare minimum recommended is 10ft x 10ft x 8.5ft high. I can depend on how tall you are of course, but if you have friends to cater for 8.5ft high is really the lowest. Ideally 9.5-10ft is best and allows you to feel like you can swing carefree.

@@petekenny3774 ye, it would add quite a bit of cost, to dig & then tank it, but if you could do the excavation yourself if would keep the cost down?
Good engineering for an amazing result. Is it not possible to dial in the resolution you want GS Pro to use? I would have thought with how many DIY simulator builds are out there that the game would be able to set a 1:1 scale resolution. What impact screen are you using in the build? What sort of impact foam do you have on the doors? I am in planning phase of my build and so far have a couple options for both, but always curious to find more options.
Awesome setup! I’m in the early planning stages myself and looking for ideas. Looking to start where you did with a party tent. If you don’t mind me asking what were the dimensions…width, length, max height, and sidewall height? I’m concerned about not having enough height to swing every club. Thanks for the video!

Yes, I needed planning permission because of the height, but as we had two huge thick trees there, it was a win-win for the neighbours. 👍🏻

Very impressive but way out of my budget even as a dual or triple use facility. If you were just looking g at cost though I wonder how many sessions at a local
Club/ facility you could get for the money. Although being able to hit and monitor shot/strike whenever you want is a big advantage.

Last game I played with 3 weekend ago up at Goswick which was superb, but nothing since. Been resting my shoulder as well, so not bad timing. Hopefully have some good course vlogs coming soon 🙏🏻🙏🏻

I bought the frame only, they also do ground screw system but we wanted the concrete slab to keep level with the patio.
I did need planning permission- yes. It’s over 3m high

Been using a Gala 6m x 4m heavy duty Marquee for the last 6 years on my decking next to house, "m away from any boundary fence. I'm very envious of your build, would love to build what you have, but UK planners won't allow it due to height and being within 2m of boundary fence. I even had a Golf Frame Netting at the bottom of the Garden which was 3m high and a neighbour across the road complained it was spoiling their view, planners came out and told me to either reduce the height or take it down.
Wow Gerry, sounds like you have some difficult neighbours. We had these huge cloud conifers & everyone was happy to see the back of them to be replaced by the garden room. Mine is close to the boundary fence, needed fire retardant cladding for building regs, all good though.
Good to hear the marquee is still doing a job, as that’s where I started & worked great to test if we were going to use the space 👍🏻

The build was quite expensive because we went high end on the spec, fully insulated, top notch cladding, bifolds, underfloor heating etc. Around £40k all in. Would have been a lot more if I didn’t do all of the build & internal fitout
I would have put side curtains
The bifold have integrated blinds. I do need something for the slot windows tho.
Fascinating set up, looks good being able to hide away. How tall is it internally and did you get planning permission for it?
Reckon you should still be able to play with that resolution to get it full screen if you wanted to.
The room ceiling is 3m. Yes I needed to get planning permission for that height.
I could tinker a little more, but to be honest, you don’t really notice it after you start to play, especially with the big TV on the wall 👍🏻

Excluding the patio, it was approx £40k. I did a lot of the work myself to keep the tradesman costs down. It’s high spec build re the materials used & underfloor heating and the LED systems, so can do something similar for a lot less.

Did you require planning permission given the height? If not, how did you manage it through permitted development?
@@WardOnBoard yes, I needed planning permission. That was pretty easy to go through as the site had huge trees there, so the neighbours were happy to see them go!
Top build. Although, I’d be using a fridja steamer to get those wrinkles out, but I’m anal when it comes to things like that. As I said, top top job 👍🏻

@@TheGeordieGolfer simple if you have discord ( gaming chat software) otherwise it’s using zoom or similar, discord is pretty easy once you learn how to navigate it, put it this way if I can anyone can. If you like I can send you a link to the ‘main’ SGT discord place, create yourself a name ( usually your SGT tour name, but doesn’t have to be) and discord app ( free) readily available in Google store Apple App Store or internet etc
