this was a great watch, everything was organised very well and all of your points were explained greatly in my opinion, the transitions between the video sections were also very smooth and natural! i also really enjoyed a lot of your interpretations of certain areas and aspects of the game. i personally am a huge fan of the transmasc sunny headcanon and this video made me get emotional at quite a few points, kudos to you ^^ i was already set on the idea of trans sunny in my mind before, but this video helped me understand the take as something with evidence rather than just a "what if" scenario as i viewed it previously. like i said before i really enjoy how you interpreted a lot of the things from the game here

I always interpreted the women bosses being mean to be the last image of Mari, in a sense. The last point that Sunny interacted with Mari, she was angry and not exactly considering Sunny's own feelings to the concert, so seeing this was quite interesting to hear!!

Before anybody calls me transphobic or anything stupid like that, i am not saying you can't have headcanons, but they're called headcanons, not change the canon. What I'm about to say is just basic facts that for some reason people don't want to look at. You can have alternate universes where these scenarios happen, but don't be surprised when people don't agree with you that Sunny is trans. I also respect trans people for who they are and who they aspire to become in the future. I am simply doing a critique of this video because there are lots of issues I've noticed. I'm just gonna say it, we saw him as a baby. We saw him literally as a young child too. There was no shot he transitioned between then. Along with that, if it even relatively mattered to the story, I think Omocat would've included something about it. The mystery potion is also a bad argument for 2 reasons: 1 - It's only true purpose is to be a nod to the fact that you used to be able to choose Sunny's gender. 2 - If you really wanted to take a deep dive into it, it makes more sense to assume that it's just something that crossed his mind rather than stretching to this extreme. It's normal to have thoughts like "What if i was a girl? What if I was a boy?" it doesn't mean you're trans.. Saying that Mari in the comic book photo is actually Sunny is a HUGE stretch. The clothes don't align with Sunny's style of wear at the time, which was just a t-shirt and some shorts, simple stuff. Also, Sunny's iconic ahoge isn't visible in that picture, even though at that angle, it would be. Along with that, we saw pictures of Sunny being male dated before that picture? E.G: Basil's birthday photo of him, dated 2/18, is placed before the comic book photo, which was dated 8/18. It simply doesn't line up. As for the bosses, there are plenty of side characters that are female that are just fine. Po for example, the lady that Kel compliments for being tall. The playground characters, and many others. You can't just choose the bosses and not the side characters to analyze. Also, you cannot say that they fully die on the true route just because Sunny doesn't get far enough into the dream to see them alive. Hell, Perfectheart isn't even looking down on you, where did you get that from?? She just doesn't want you hurt cause she is aware what she could be capable of, but she is unaware what you are capable of. It's always good to warn people, you know. Another thing about the mystery potion, when you use it, you can go into the girl's bathroom. Inside, it looks nothing like a real girl's bathroom, showing that Sunny has never really been in one. Along with that, if Sunny didn't want to be a girl, then why would the mirror make him look "especially flattering" in it. Sunny's dad not knowing about the reality behind Mari's death would be wild.. Cause he literally had to cut down the tree and probably take her hanging body off of it, he would see there were brusies and scratches on it, meaning something else happened. It's also likely that Sunny told his parents, seeing as he's a literal child, not knowing what to do in a situation like this. They likely taught in schools that if something goes wrong you tell a trusted adult. It makes far more sense than his dad disowning him for gender. It's either that or he didn't want to be involved with the family anymore after his probably favorite child died. If you pay attention, the dad seems like a strict authoritarian, not wanting Mari to be dating just yet. He might be where Mari got her perfectionism from too. She was likely his favorite child, and once she's gone, he didn't want to be part of the family, so he chopped down the tree and left. Keep in mind as well, this is an adult man, who can see things that are hidden far better than a 12 yr old can hide them. I wouldn't overthink the Herosaurus thing too much, to me it quite literally just seems like a silly joke Sunny thought of in his head when he was young and clung onto. It's just meant to be a silly gag for shits and giggles. In MY conclusion, the evidence presented here today is a little flimsy, and you stretched it a little too far. Now again, you can have your beliefs, and I have mine, that's a-ok. Just don't start trying to say it's almost a definite truth that he is, as theres many holes in it. Transmasc sunny just doesn’t make sense. We see sunny grow up as a boy from birth. Sunny hasn’t left the house in years. They wouldn’t even have access to Hrt. If sunny is trans they haven’t transitioned yet. i feel like your just projecting yourself onto them. I’m gonna edit this later with a full explanation.
Yeah I agree, a lot of their evidence is just very weak imo but there is nothing wrong with speculating or having headcannons and if it makes them happy thats good for them.
Sunny as a character, along with his experience has been purposely designed to be relatable to a wide variety of people, we may pick some traits over others which results in Sunny being more relatable with every single one of us, which is good since we get to relate more, encapsulates ourselves with the story etc. An introvert may relate to Sunny for they both live in lives of recluse, thats why faraway town exists. An extrovert may relate for they both dream of spending more times with their friends, thats why headspace exists. A straight person may relate for something idk, thats why Sunburn exists. A non-straight person may relate for what this video said, thats why Sunflower exists. (I’m not non-straight in any way but I still giggle to myself and kick my feet in the air when I think of Sunflower). A child could relate for they are currently experiencing their childhood. An adult could relate for they reminiscence about their childhood. A person who had lost someone could relate since obv. A person who hadn’t lost someone yet could relate for they fear losing them. and etc. Sunny always has something we could relate to no matter who we are, he isn’t perfect but neither are we, thats what makes him great, thats what makes us great too
I've watched gameplays and played the game myself SO many times and I genuinely never noticed the long hair in the photo, I always thought it was Sunny based on his face and how similar the expression is to his other pictures so consider my mind blown lol. This was such a great video to watch and I can tell it had so much thought put into it and it's only helped solidify one of the first-ever theories I had made about Sunny which was him being somewhere under the transgender umbrella (especially with the whole mystery potion thing lol). Something I really like about Omori is the ambiguity of some of his characters. I feel that it is a game made on purpose to make it easier for anyone to identify with it. And yet, thinking about this video and the reading you have done, has made me realize that there are still things that I have not discovered about Omori. Small details that, yes, may be a little ambiguous, but they can also shape the way we interpret the game. It's really nice to know that a trans reading of Sunny can be done. You've really encouraged me to want to play Omori again. Perhaps, I too can see a clearer reflection of my feelings in the game. (sorry for using google translate :p)

Just to give some slight commentary, I'd like to offer an alternative explanation as to why Headspace treats its major female characters so poorly. In my opinion, it's possible to view this as an extension of Sunny's complicated feelings towards Mari. I could write an essay on how Sweetheart represents all the aspects Sunny hated about his sister (her toxic positivity, perfectionism, controlling behavior) and we know that Mari was one of Sunny's largest feminine influences in his childhood. Because of this, I'd like to suggest that Headspace treats these female bosses so poorly as a form of repression. These bosses are unintentional reminders of the parts of Mari Sunny doesn't want to remember, the parts that led to their fight. As such, like anything in Headspace that serves as too much of a reminder, it is removed in one way or another. As to why their are no positive major female characters, I would suggest that Sunny refusing to acknowledge Mari's negative traits in regards to her has led to them popping up in virtually every female character he tries to create, in a similar way to how repressing Something makes it leak through the cracks to Headspace. Anyway, I still think your point works, but I wanted to suggest this as an alternative.

Just managed to P-rank a custom level in ULTRAKILL while watching this (took a while but I got it at around the 33 min. mark lmao). A lot of interesting points were brought up, the conclusion was wholesome, overall a great video essay.
Really nice video! Loved the clear analysis and how easy it was to get. Honestly surprised you have so little subs, will definitely look into the rest of your work! Anyways time for the obligatory poorly theorized additions to the video essay wahoo Herosaurus i personally interpreted while watching this was sunny's body dysphoria and how he wished to view himself. Throughout headspace its pretty clear sunny idolizes hero, so it makes sense to aspire to be similar to him after transitioning. The dinosaur body showing how he feels alien to himself, and even viewed as ridiculous be others, as i'm pretty sure that's what we all thought when we first saw herosaurus. As for the omori faces room in blackspace, i find it REALLY interesting that you can use the gender potion in there. I've seen that previously interpreted as a sort of utmost "culmination" (probably the wrong word but oh well) of sunny's repression of himself. I'm confident that that ties into him being presented as trans, but how i couldn't tell you (sorry to disappoint).
i have a little something to add witb the statement on 29:30 because, somewhere in black space 2 ((im 97% sure)) sunny and mari's mum is comforting sunny, im guessing after mari's death. she says something about how "we're ((her and the father)) here/going to protect you" similar to what basil says. im guessing this is because sunny might of told them what happened? i havent looked too far into it though and it is just a theory!! anyway, i loved this video and headcannon so much thank you for taking time to make this 🙏🙏🙏

i've seen an another deep dive into BS 2 (can give a link if you're interested) and there the "faces of omori" room was called something like "the heart of darkness". This, along with the fact that it is, as far as i remember, located in the Red Maze, which is a part of the Red Space (Omori's personal domain, as color red has been shown to represent repression on a number of occasions throughout the game), brings me to an idea that perhaps it can be indeed called the "heart" of Omori as an entity and, therefore, him being able to use the potion here kinda makes sense because it does seem fitting for a place that is connected to the concepts of both identity and repression also, the abyss is still technically underwater, as you access it through going into the dark on the neverending underwater road, so that might also explain the use of the potion here

What's also pretty interesting is that in the White Space sketchbook, it's the only piece of clothing that's bright red which intentionally draws attention to it and makes it feel out of place amongst the other clothes

Well, this video isn't a theory video, it's just saying that "Hey these certain things about Sunny seem kinda trans when you piece them together-". I've seen a few comments saying that the Final Duet montage is a "hole" in my "theory", but there isn't a theory to poke holes in. Interpretations of the text are just a matter of perspective and I don't think there are any "wrong perspectives". It's just a way of viewing the source material. This is a very interesting theory, but then I thought that there are other possible theories based on those same clues you used to your theory, like, what if Sunny was just insecure by his lack of masculinity? I feel like it makes sense for Sunny to be trans, Sunny is a both gendered name, and it would make sense for him to start out as a girl at birth but started out early as a guy or smh... but I'm not so sure about Omori. Omori sounds more like a male name, so Omori must have been created during Sunny's male mindset. It seems like Sunny has told his friends about it at some point because all his friends call him by the pronouns "he/him" and they know he doesn't like being alone, I feel like that loneliness comes from his (made-up) fear of being a girl or smh. I do feel like i'm saying nonsense, and I think that is the point.

As a transmasc the Abbi part always made me feel weird, what is she exactly? and why is it there? Since we meet Abbi on the Hikikomori route we immediately enter into combat, without even knowing who she is or why we fight and even if we forgive her, she will always be trapped in the deepest part, right next to the black space. Thanks to this video I just realized why it seemed so strange to me. What if it's represented like "a past self" ? a past self that Sunny desperately seeks to hide and retain, that he wishes to forget, or at least that's the impression I get
I think sunny was fucked in the head more than having a crush on kel, and he was fucked in the head by the accident so idk that's my take he likes being around kel, because kel is his light in dark and kel's personality shows that. Because kel is his friend and the game kinda shows that friendship is important. But in general I don't think sunny is trans but if you think so, go on ahead.

What if the StoryTeller was in Omori as a character who stands both with and against the bosses in Omori? How do I relate this hard with this Sunny despite considering myself transfem? Meh, I'll continue to go down. So far, I relate with his passivity, and his preference for the other gender, and a lot of the things here could just be flipped around with femininity and it would all fit together well, except for Omori's Misogyny. I've discovered stuff that might make Sunny question his transmasc identity just like I've questioned my transfem identity, and I'm not sure what that would mean for the two of us, but I know it cannot mean anything good. I would definitely drive Sunny insane just by my mere presence within his Headspace. I also hope that you and your family are all doing well after the Tornado, and I want to send my condolences for what happened and I hope that the recovery process after what happened will go better. I'm also glad for that message about acceptance, but I'm not even sure what is even behind my own identity. I've lived so long as someone who is effectively identity-less and has always incorporated or taken others' identities and attempted to both incorporate and understand them my whole life that I have barely been able to solidly give myself an identity that both fits and feels like me. I'll probably never have one, as that ship feels like it has sailed a long time ago with me being given so many opportunities to have gotten on that ship that now it feels like what is even the point anymore? Sure, I could just take some chances and see what happens, but how do I even organize and set boundaries for that to happen in the first place? How do I even make the time to do so? Videos like this show how misunderstood the message of Omori is. As a person who is bi, I hate how all these characters get shipped and gendered in different ways because it takes away from the actual meaning of the game. This exact thing is why people don’t like the Omori fandom and tend to avoid playing the game as a result. I personally think that the characters in Omori are all straight except for maybe basil and this is mostly because the game takes place in August of 2001 and there were rare instances where a teenager identified as gay, bi, or anything else other than straight. This is the reason I do not like the Omori fandom and I hate being a part of it.

Agreed, I understand that this is just supposed to be a different fun way to interpret Sunny’s character and I don’t necessarily have any problem with that, but I don’t really see the point in doing so if what you’re saying is able to be quickly and blatantly disproven by what is arguably the most memorable and important scene in the game
i REALLY don't see it. Definitely bi or more likely gay (im just making this up) Basil asked him out or kissed him then apologizes now Sunny REALLY trying to outrun his feelings for him --outrunning something that intense get the same result. but not anything that would suggest he wants to be a girl, andro, or fluid. mystery potion more like an easter egg put into the game. Entire game is more about him dealing with extreme guilt and being unable to face reality.
Respectfuly, i think this misses the point, and makes the character of Sunny way too diluted. Omori is obviously a game about guilt, depression, intrusive thoughts, coming of age... Obviously trans people live through this, but you could also say that ANYONE can live through it. I do believe that beeing gay or bi is relevant, since this is something that brings inner struggle towards his friends, who are the most important part about Omori, since we know that Sunny needs their help to get better. Beeing trans is not something that is needed in the story, therefore, he shouldn't be. Character traits need to be pertinent, that's just good writing, and Omori is a display of EXCELENT writing. Everything you point towards in your video can be seen as something way more fitting: Mania Sunny is manic, he's gonne beyound depression, he's always on edge IRL (Look at nightmari, the way that he sees the interaction of answering the door, the infinite stairways, the shadow on the mirror, this isn't just depression, it's extreme fear and trauma). I don't think trans characters shouldn't exist, i just think that pointing towards characters that don't need to be trans and calling them trans by nitpicking circumstential evidences is a disservice towards storytelling.
Hey, I get your point, but I feel like you're missing the point of this video, too. It's presenting a different lens to view this game and Sunny's journey at - not stating that Sunny is canonically & has to be transgender. It's simply a different reading of canon text. While Sunny being transgender would not change much about the story, this isn't OMOCAT and the writers adding a new additional element to the already grand story, this is a consumer of the story interpreting a few moments in canon into a slightly different narrative. There's a difference between an author telling you what canon is and a consumer telling you about their interpretation of the work. Sunny doesn't have to be trans, he doesn't have to be queer. But if you're looking for some other people's different readings of some text or subtext that the author didn't even necessarily intend, you might find that the story has some fun angles to be played with that you never even thought about. Every text has two authors - the actual author and the reader. By having someone present their reading of a character as queer, the text itself doesn't change. And you can disagree with this reading. That's absolutely fine - your reading of the story sees Sunny as cisgender but troubled mentally, and not trans. Also this video doesnt say that sunny is for sure trans, it just showcases the possibilities of how that could be explored.

The point is that every different trait a character has, be it beeing gay, bi, a homophobe, trans, transphobic, man or woman, these traits should be explored, not implied. This is not really a matter of opinion, it's a rule of storytelling, if it's not useful, then it shouldn't be there (Of course "rules" of art are highly subjective, but Omori seems to follow them). I'm not making beeing trans something shallow, i'm saying the exact oposite: Beeing trans is a complex and nuanced situation, so it shouldn't be something diluted in a story that has so many different heavy topics such as depression, suicide, fratricide, isolation... The key word here is DILUTED, not shallow. I understand that the video is not saying sunny is trans for sure, and i'm also not saying that sunny isn't trans for sure, this should be a healthy and mature debate where people can disagree with the message of the video.

Many people saw themselves in, say, Undertale's subtext of growing up or even growing up queer or mentally ill despite the game not explicitly addressing it. In that case, people would also show a few lines and, in your words 'nitpicking evidence'. I understand your frustration and need to reinforce your admittedly heavily text-implied reading of the text, though I don't see why Sunny being mentally ill would exclude a trans reading of the story. If he were explicitly just written as trans with maybe 3 or 4 lines confirming it, yeah, I'd be pretty disappointed too. But we're still in subtext territory and an interpretation like this ultimately doesn't hurt anyone and it won't change the text, neither will it alter the rules of storytelling, as it's not the actual writers blankly stating that Sunny is trans.

One of the best things about art is it's subjective, so we can talk about it, debate it, disagree with each other and even find some common grounds. i would honestly have to agree with this comment. i think that yes, a lot of the facets of the game do have large amounts of symbolism behind them. but Omocat is not God... not every little thing that is implemented in the game has to have mountains upon mountains of foreshadowing or implications. i think the point about female images being perceived negatively is either looking into simple gameplay decisions too hard, coincidences, or there are other ways to view said characters. this point would be like me making a 20 minute video on how the murdering of the four sprout moles for the show tickets or how the trees around basil's house withering is actually portraying sunny's disgust of nature and desire to industrialize the world... either it's not intended to be looked into that deeply, symbolizing something else, or has other ways to interpret it. nothing hateful about this, obviously. i just enjoy discussing the game with people in any way.

Wait huh? I thought people were shipping the present day Faraway versions of the characters, all of which are minors (with the exception of Hero, who’s approximately 19.), then again, the only side I’ve seen of the Omori fandom is on VRChat and Roblox, so feel free to correct me if I’m wrong. look, if I'm gonna be honest, I do still get rubbed slightly the wrong way by stuff like this. This is probably one of my favorite interpretations of headspace and Sunny ever. I’ve been wanting a video like this ever since watching NerdyArty’s video, and this video just did so well on analyzing Sunny and how his mind works
this was a wonderful watch. i love reading characters through a queer lens and a character like sunny just has so much to analyze. you brought up a lot of things that i hadn't paid much mind to myself and overall this video and your analysis really spoke to me a lot as a trans man and as someone who loves this game. i can't wait to see the videos you'll make in the future and i hope this one gets all of the attention that it deserves :)

Before anybody calls me transphobic or anything stupid like that, i am not saying you can't have headcanons, but they're called headcanons, not change the canon. What I'm about to say is just basic facts that for some reason people don't want to look at. You can have alternate universes where these scenarios happen, but don't be surprised when people don't agree with you that Sunny is trans. I also respect trans people for who they are and who they aspire to become in the future. I am simply doing a critique of this video because there are lots of issues I've noticed.
I'm just gonna say it, we saw him as a baby. We saw him literally as a young child too. There was no shot he transitioned between then. Along with that, if it even relatively mattered to the story, I think Omocat would've included something about it.
The mystery potion is also a bad argument for 2 reasons:
1 - It's only true purpose is to be a nod to the fact that you used to be able to choose Sunny's gender.
2 - If you really wanted to take a deep dive into it, it makes more sense to assume that it's just something that crossed his mind rather than stretching to this extreme. It's normal to have thoughts like "What if i was a girl? What if I was a boy?" it doesn't mean you're trans..
Saying that Mari in the comic book photo is actually Sunny is a HUGE stretch. The clothes don't align with Sunny's style of wear at the time, which was just a t-shirt and some shorts, simple stuff. Also, Sunny's iconic ahoge isn't visible in that picture, even though at that angle, it would be. Along with that, we saw pictures of Sunny being male dated before that picture? E.G: Basil's birthday photo of him, dated 2/18, is placed before the comic book photo, which was dated 8/18. It simply doesn't line up.
As for the bosses, there are plenty of side characters that are female that are just fine. Po for example, the lady that Kel compliments for being tall. The playground characters, and many others. You can't just choose the bosses and not the side characters to analyze. Also, you cannot say that they fully die on the true route just because Sunny doesn't get far enough into the dream to see them alive. Hell, Perfectheart isn't even looking down on you, where did you get that from?? She just doesn't want you hurt cause she is aware what she could be capable of, but she is unaware what you are capable of. It's always good to warn people, you know.
Another thing about the mystery potion, when you use it, you can go into the girl's bathroom. Inside, it looks nothing like a real girl's bathroom, showing that Sunny has never really been in one. Along with that, if Sunny didn't want to be a girl, then why would the mirror make him look "especially flattering" in it.
Sunny's dad not knowing about the reality behind Mari's death would be wild.. Cause he literally had to cut down the tree and probably take her hanging body off of it, he would see there were brusies and scratches on it, meaning something else happened. It's also likely that Sunny told his parents, seeing as he's a literal child, not knowing what to do in a situation like this. They likely taught in schools that if something goes wrong you tell a trusted adult. It makes far more sense than his dad disowning him for gender. It's either that or he didn't want to be involved with the family anymore after his probably favorite child died. If you pay attention, the dad seems like a strict authoritarian, not wanting Mari to be dating just yet. He might be where Mari got her perfectionism from too. She was likely his favorite child, and once she's gone, he didn't want to be part of the family, so he chopped down the tree and left. Keep in mind as well, this is an adult man, who can see things that are hidden far better than a 12 yr old can hide them.
I wouldn't overthink the Herosaurus thing too much, to me it quite literally just seems like a silly joke Sunny thought of in his head when he was young and clung onto. It's just meant to be a silly gag for shits and giggles.
In MY conclusion, the evidence presented here today is a little flimsy, and you stretched it a little too far. Now again, you can have your beliefs, and I have mine, that's a-ok. Just don't start trying to say it's almost a definite truth that he is, as theres many holes in it. Thanks for spending the time to read, have a good rest of your day/night.

Yeah I agree, a lot of their evidence is just very weak imo but there is nothing wrong with speculating or having headcannons and if it makes them happy thats good for them.
Sunny as a character, along with his experience has been purposely designed to be relatable to a wide variety of people, we may pick some traits over others which results in Sunny being more relatable with every single one of us, which is good since we get to relate more, encapsulates ourselves with the story etc.
An introvert may relate to Sunny for they both live in lives of recluse, thats why faraway town exists. An extrovert may relate for they both dream of spending more times with their friends, thats why headspace exists. A straight person may relate for something idk, thats why Sunburn exists. A non-straight person may relate for what this video said, thats why Sunflower exists. (I’m not non-straight in any way but I still giggle to myself and kick my feet in the air when I think of Sunflower). A child could relate for they are currently experiencing their childhood. An adult could relate for they reminiscence about their childhood. A person who had lost someone could relate since obv. A person who hadn’t lost someone yet could relate for they fear losing them. and etc.
Sunny always has something we could relate to no matter who we are, he isn’t perfect but neither are we, thats what makes him great, thats what makes us great too
I've watched gameplays and played the game myself SO many times and I genuinely never noticed the long hair in the photo, I always thought it was Sunny based on his face and how similar the expression is to his other pictures so consider my mind blown lol. This was such a great video to watch and I can tell it had so much thought put into it and it's only helped solidify one of the first-ever theories I had made about Sunny which was him being somewhere under the transgender umbrella (especially with the whole mystery potion thing lol). Thanks for this analysis!! Again, it's very well made and now i have some more things to brainstorm about at 3 am 😅

Something I really like about Omori is the ambiguity of some of his characters. I feel that it is a game made on purpose to make it easier for anyone to identify with it.
And yet, thinking about this video and the reading you have done, has made me realize that there are still things that I have not discovered about Omori. Small details that, yes, may be a little ambiguous, but they can also shape the way we interpret the game.
It's really nice to know that a trans reading of Sunny can be done. You've really encouraged me to want to play Omori again. Perhaps, I too can see a clearer reflection of my feelings in the game.

Just to give some slight commentary, I'd like to offer an alternative explanation as to why Headspace treats its major female characters so poorly. In my opinion, it's possible to view this as an extension of Sunny's complicated feelings towards Mari. I could write an essay on how Sweetheart represents all the aspects Sunny hated about his sister (her toxic positivity, perfectionism, controlling behavior) and we know that Mari was one of Sunny's largest feminine influences in his childhood. Because of this, I'd like to suggest that Headspace treats these female bosses so poorly as a form of repression. These bosses are unintentional reminders of the parts of Mari Sunny doesn't want to remember, the parts that led to their fight. As such, like anything in Headspace that serves as too much of a reminder, it is removed in one way or another. As to why their are no positive major female characters, I would suggest that Sunny refusing to acknowledge Mari's negative traits in regards to her has led to them popping up in virtually every female character he tries to create, in a similar way to how repressing Something makes it leak through the cracks to Headspace. Anyway, I still think your point works, but I wanted to suggest this as an alternative.

Herosaurus i personally interpreted while watching this was sunny's body dysphoria and how he wished to view himself. Throughout headspace its pretty clear sunny idolizes hero, so it makes sense to aspire to be similar to him after transitioning. The dinosaur body showing how he feels alien to himself, and even viewed as ridiculous be others, as i'm pretty sure that's what we all thought when we first saw herosaurus.
As for the omori faces room in blackspace, i find it REALLY interesting that you can use the gender potion in there. I've seen that previously interpreted as a sort of utmost "culmination" (probably the wrong word but oh well) of sunny's repression of himself. I'm confident that that ties into him being presented as trans, but how i couldn't tell you (sorry to disappoint).

i have a little something to add witb the statement on 29:30 because, somewhere in black space 2 ((im 97% sure)) sunny and mari's mum is comforting sunny, im guessing after mari's death. she says something about how "we're ((her and the father)) here/going to protect you" similar to what basil says. im guessing this is because sunny might of told them what happened? i havent looked too far into it though and it is just a theory!!

i've seen an another deep dive into BS 2 (can give a link if you're interested) and there the "faces of omori" room was called something like "the heart of darkness". This, along with the fact that it is, as far as i remember, located in the Red Maze, which is a part of the Red Space (Omori's personal domain, as color red has been shown to represent repression on a number of occasions throughout the game), brings me to an idea that perhaps it can be indeed called the "heart" of Omori as an entity and, therefore, him being able to use the potion here kinda makes sense because it does seem fitting for a place that is connected to the concepts of both identity and repression
also, the abyss is still technically underwater, as you access it through going into the dark on the neverending underwater road, so that might also explain the use of the potion here

Well, this video isn't a theory video, it's just saying that "Hey these certain things about Sunny seem kinda trans when you piece them together-". I've seen a few comments saying that the Final Duet montage is a "hole" in my "theory", but there isn't a theory to poke holes in. I’m a trans boy and this was pretty epic to watch but I wanted to say about the Omori faces room where you can drink the potion, obviously Omori’s faces doesn’t change, another thing that could add to Sunny seeing himself as a boy, since It’s strange a room in Blackspace that obscure can have the mystery potion be used in it
I feel like it makes sense for Sunny to be trans, Sunny is a both gendered name, and it would make sense for him to start out as a girl at birth but started out early as a guy or smh... but I'm not so sure about Omori. Omori sounds more like a male name, so Omori must have been created during Sunny's male mindset. It seems like Sunny has told his friends about it at some point because all his friends call him by the pronouns "he/him" and they know he doesn't like being alone, I feel like that loneliness comes from his (made-up) fear of being a girl or smh. I do feel like i'm saying nonsense, and I think that is the point.

How do I relate this hard with this Sunny despite considering myself transfem? Meh, I'll continue to go down. So far, I relate with his passivity, and his preference for the other gender, and a lot of the things here could just be flipped around with femininity and it would all fit together well, except for Omori's Misogyny. I've discovered stuff that might make Sunny question his transmasc identity just like I've questioned my transfem identity, and I'm not sure what that would mean for the two of us, but I know it cannot mean anything good. I would definitely drive Sunny insane just by my mere presence within his Headspace.
I also hope that you and your family are all doing well after the Tornado, and I want to send my condolences for what happened and I hope that the recovery process after what happened will go better.
I'm also glad for that message about acceptance, but I'm not even sure what is even behind my own identity. I've lived so long as someone who is effectively identity-less and has always incorporated or taken others' identities and attempted to both incorporate and understand them my whole life that I have barely been able to solidly give myself an identity that both fits and feels like me. I'll probably never have one, as that ship feels like it has sailed a long time ago with me being given so many opportunities to have gotten on that ship that now it feels like what is even the point anymore? Sure, I could just take some chances and see what happens, but how do I even organize and set boundaries for that to happen in the first place? How do I even make the time to do so? Meh, I guess I'll do it someday.
Videos like this show how misunderstood the message of Omori is. As a person who is bi, I hate how all these characters get shipped and gendered in different ways because it takes away from the actual meaning of the game. This exact thing is why people don’t like the Omori fandom and tend to avoid playing the game as a result. I personally think that the characters in Omori are all straight except for maybe basil and this is mostly because the game takes place in August of 2001 and there were rare instances where a teenager identified as gay, bi, or anything else other than straight. This is the reason I do not like the Omori fandom and I hate being a part of it.

Respectfuly, i think this misses the point, and makes the character of Sunny way too diluted. Omori is obviously a game about guilt, depression, intrusive thoughts, coming of age... Obviously trans people live through this, but you could also say that ANYONE can live through it.
I do believe that beeing gay or bi is relevant, since this is something that brings inner struggle towards his friends, who are the most important part about Omori, since we know that Sunny needs their help to get better.
Beeing trans is not something that is needed in the story, therefore, he shouldn't be. Character traits need to be pertinent, that's just good writing, and Omori is a display of EXCELENT writing.

I don't think trans characters shouldn't exist, i just think that pointing towards characters that don't need to be trans and calling them trans by nitpicking circumstential evidences is a disservice towards storytelling.
Hey, I get your point, but I feel like you're missing the point of this video, too. It's presenting a different lens to view this game and Sunny's journey at - not stating that Sunny is canonically & has to be transgender. It's simply a different reading of canon text. While Sunny being transgender would not change much about the story, this isn't OMOCAT and the writers adding a new additional element to the already grand story, this is a consumer of the story interpreting a few moments in canon into a slightly different narrative.
There's a difference between an author telling you what canon is and a consumer telling you about their interpretation of the work.
Sunny doesn't have to be trans, he doesn't have to be queer. But if you're looking for some other people's different readings of some text or subtext that the author didn't even necessarily intend, you might find that the story has some fun angles to be played with that you never even thought about.
Every text has two authors - the actual author and the reader. By having someone present their reading of a character as queer, the text itself doesn't change. And you can disagree with this reading. That's absolutely fine - your reading of the story sees Sunny as cisgender but troubled mentally, and not trans. But you don't get to call this a 'disservice to storytelling' when this is simply a different interpretation.
So being bi brings inner struggle towards his friends therefore its relevant, but somehow being trans doesn't?

The point is that every different trait a character has, be it beeing gay, bi, a homophobe, trans, transphobic, man or woman, these traits should be explored, not implied. This is not really a matter of opinion, it's a rule of storytelling, if it's not useful, then it shouldn't be there (Of course "rules" of art are highly subjective, but Omori seems to follow them).
I'm not making beeing trans something shallow, i'm saying the exact oposite: Beeing trans is a complex and nuanced situation, so it shouldn't be something diluted in a story that has so many different heavy topics such as depression, suicide, fratricide, isolation... The key word here is DILUTED, not shallow. I understand that the video is not saying sunny is trans for sure, and i'm also not saying that sunny isn't trans for sure, this should be a healthy and mature debate where people can disagree with the message of the video.

If he were explicitly just written as trans with maybe 3 or 4 lines confirming it, yeah, I'd be pretty disappointed too. But we're still in subtext territory and an interpretation like this ultimately doesn't hurt anyone and it won't change the text, neither will it alter the rules of storytelling, as it's not the actual writers blankly stating that Sunny is trans.

Here goes though, the parts later on like the you are not my son to me makes less sense because we see sunny baby pictures and they still look like sunny older, sure that can maybe be a bowl cut or something but even his clothes seem neutral compared to mari’s purple which is more traditionally feminine.

This thought is completely natural and does not reflect a real desire to change gender. Just an idea along the lines of “what if I weren’t there? What if someone dear to me died?” All of this kind of thoughts, but not in a negative way, but just out of interest
And about the fact that Sunny perceives female images negatively... it’s made up out of thin air

i would honestly have to agree with this comment. i think that yes, a lot of the facets of the game do have large amounts of symbolism behind them. but Omocat is not God... not every little thing that is implemented in the game has to have mountains upon mountains of foreshadowing or implications. i think the point about female images being perceived negatively is either looking into simple gameplay decisions too hard, coincidences, or there are other ways to view said characters. this point would be like me making a 20 minute video on how the murdering of the four sprout moles for the show tickets or how the trees around basil's house withering is actually portraying sunny's disgust of nature and desire to industrialize the world... either it's not intended to be looked into that deeply, symbolizing something else, or has other ways to interpret it.

NOT the idea of analyzing these games under the queer lenses, but rather the idea that some people think of these things as guarenteed just because certain cherry-picked lines happen to match up with their own experiences.
