62 with student loans, insanity
My gut tells me he has plenty of $$ to pay his bills, he's taking advantage of sweet old step mom.
If that was the case then he wouldn’t have an issue with just waiting her out a few more years to inherit it. Lol
there's no need, his dad already willed all the $$ to him anyway, no need to con the $$ out of stepmom now
The stepson should be reported to her County Social Services office. This is financial elder abuse and there are laws against it. Also, and I hate to say this, but she’s not safe if he knows he gets the money after she dies; he may not want to wait.
He has way to much entitlement she shouldn’t lend him one penny he has to learn maybe buy him peace university give him wisdom is best thing to do for him
Ok dude, it’s not elder abuse. That’s taking advantage of lowered mental faculties by lying. The son is being a jerk but he is not taking advantage of anything besides her generosity. Chill
Honestly the staff at Dave Ramsey should report this guy to whatever state he is located for potential elder abuse. It has all the red flags for it and I guarantee it’s been going on since the father has passed.
Exactly this is insanity
When they're that age they don't know any better can't tell if they're being taken advantage of
I agree!!!
Adult Protective Services. Most people know about Child Protective Services but there is an adult branch, too.
💯%!
He thinks the money is his and he wants it now!
Bingo!
Exactly!!
You never tell anyone what you have in the bank, including family members.
Facts upon facts upon facts. Never ever!!!
@Shana Robinson you want them to believe that you're struggling with money even when you're not. Don't dress to impress 😉
Just learn the word “no”. I drive the car I want, I wear the clothes I want, I spend on what I want, don’t need to hide it because I’m confident saying no.
💯
EVER!
My grandma used to always say. No work, no eat
Grandma knew the Bible
Yet ready to casually take a loan from the bank for a house " because I'm worth it"
...?
He asked for 69K instead of 70K. 😂
He's quite the creative trickster with price points.
Exactly!
Yeah he had a full breakdown. Pathetic.
Didn't even add on 420 for taxes
Right lol
"Heart attack, couple strokes, diagnosed with severe degenerative disease, but other than that I'm fine! " Ha,, they glazed by that line, but loved that
Small amounts $12k $35k, that's not small amounts. Small amounts is $100 🤔
You get 5k, that's it
if she gave him the WHOLE trust, in a few months he would be broke and asking her to give him her social security check, or sell the house... I would NOT want to be in her shoes.
^Bingo^
Exactly 💯
Let's TRUST she won't do that 😂
Reading between the lines I think it's more an issue of he is tired of waiting for the trust and is finding schemes and ways to get some of the money.
Let's be honest if your father died and left a trust which you still can't access at 60 years old then what's the point? Get it at 70 years?
Most people will access such finds earlier to be able to make use of it not when they are older but unfortunately in this case the trust is tied to when his step mother passes and she is still alive so he can't access it hence coming up with different reasons to at least get some money.
I may be wrong but that's how I interpreted this call.
@@toluani7690 your calculations are highly probable and I concur
NO is a good word. NO is a wonderful word. NO is a magical word. NO is a great word. NO is an okay word. NO is a good answer.
Blue exactly NO is a complete sentence
Imagine having student loans at 62. I wonder if that college degree was worth it.
My thoughts exactly
apparently not!!
Not really if hes asking his step mom
I'm assuming it's for his children
I think it’s cap and he’s just writing a list and hoping she gives him the money
He is trying to get his inheritance while she is still alive. He is a lot slicker than the other brother who went the legal route.
Prob true. He’s def not thinking of her esp future health care.
Dont do it grandma, this guy is a red flag.
Here I am refusing to give my 22yr old daughter penny because she has yet to get a full time job.😮
Because you actually love your daughter and are a parent, no enabler.
She won't end up like this 40 year later though... you're doing the right thing.
They need to learn how to be independent and self-sufficient. Best to learn in early 20's rather than later in life. The enablers who set no boundaries create the entitlement belief in those who are determined to continue taking.
you are doing the right thing. enabling these young kids handouts will never teach them responsibility
Don't enable her.... i made my son WORK for EVERY nickel I ever gave him. He's now finishing up his college degree and is full-time working at a decent job.
Dave's face when she says 62!
Same as Dave 🤣
Yeah, I had to click on this video to see if it was a typo or something. LOL I had to see if there was actually a 62 year old that can't pay their bills. Apparently, there are. SMH
Hahahahahaha
😳😳
“What did they do with all their $??” 😂😂
Dave and Ken are afraid to condemn this woman. If she were 50 they’d jump on her for enabling.
I am continually flabbergasted by children fleecing their parents. When I moved out at 18 years old I never asked for money. Paid my own way and am better for it.
He’s basically asking for his inheritance upfront rather than waiting for stepmom to use it all and die. And doesn’t want to go through the legal means to do it like his brother did. That’s my take but Dave’s advice is right.
I agree.
Yes, the 62 year old thinks the trust is his already.
She's not going to use it all. He needs to wait
The father should have left the trust in his name if that was the case or given him some of it in his will. Regardless though asking for $69k is stupid because of taxes. At most $15k a year is good though.
Yes and it is disgusting. Plotting and scheming this woman out of money is so sick.
I would send someone there to do a wellness check on her and make sure the son doesn’t take advantage of her any further 🙌
Did u😮
This qualifies to be reported as elder abuse.
my head exploded when I heard student loans.
That's just ridiculous to ask for that much and he's that old. He's probably worried that all the money will be eaten up by her nursing home care when she needs it.
Similar situation with my in laws and their loser son. They have enabled him for 27+ years (he is 48 now) and they won't see how he has put them in poverty. They have no retirement, they kept giving him monthly nearly $2k for that whole time!
Report him to Elder Services.
Concerned for this woman’s safety with this man
Aini't it? First thing I thought........I expect her to be in the news soon...
These greedy people.
He is trying to get at her money before she passes away.
I hope she tells him no with someone else or two in the room!
Off to the bank she goes. too nice of a lady.
This is going to be my soon-to-be ex-roommate in about 25 years.
That man is just using her!! Poor women.😅😅😅
Classic Dave Ramsey call! Glad the GOAT was in the building to take the call.
Sickens me how this 84 year old women has to deal with these situations at this age when she is supposed to be living a peaceful retired life instead.
Really messed up world we live in. Lesson learnt, never trust anybody with your money. Even your family members!
It’s not something that happens overnight. They’ve been giving this kid money his whole life.
Her fault for ever giving them money in the first place
Blame her husband
@@jamaicaninthekitchen4358 blame the man right ?
This is wrong, the son should work and finance his own lifestyle.
If am 62 and have that much debt I won’t even bother. 😂
If I were the child of this generous lady I would have a very strong talk with her and my step brother. This must stop now!
Cannot be asking money like that. He knows the trust is there. That’s not for him.
Cut him off YESTERDAY! You poor lady!
Sounds like this guy is hustling his step- mother because he thinks she's old and doesn't need the money anymore. There are people out here like this!! I really hope she doesn't give him a dime, he should be ashamed of himself.
Exactly
She should alert the police
The way he whispered @1:46 😂😂😂
She should have laughed in her step son’s face after he asked her for all that money
that matching on payments is a clever solution
62😮😮😮😮😮😮 DON'T DO IT
So, he's buying a house, and he also has a piece of land that he's paying on. What's the land for? Is he farming on it or running a business there? (I suspect not.)
You need to learn to say “NO”
Sometimes you help others more by not helping them at all. Not much is a better teacher than struggling without a fall back safety net
I'm sure he's close to you, but he wants to get closer to your bank account.
No need to ask him about his money -- it's up to you not to let him spend your money.
Truth is stranger than fiction
This one takes the cake 🎂!
Totally!
Love Dave's advice at the end! Perfect!❤
The step son knows that the money in the trust is his in the end, so he's trying to get his hands on it now before it gets spent on her health needs over the next few years. If she runs out of money down the road, he will be nowhere to be found/
Be careful he doesn't do something to her to cause a premature passing 😵
Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s spending it at the casinos! 🙈 Tulsa + OK sadly have too many of those 😢
This shows how important it is to have a will and ensure everyone knows what they are getting so others do not feel obligated to share what is there. There needs to be boundaries
But he does know what he's getting, just doesn't want to wait.
I'd be interested to see what she ended up doing, I imagine the stepson would have guilt tripped her into giving him the money
Great advice!
She has given him money since the dad died. The other brother tried to sue to take what was their home. This stepson is the smooth snake. He WANTS his inheritance and may not NEED it. There is gift tax on anything over 17k per year so no I can’t give it to you because of the taxes.
Just say no. How can he learn if you keep enabling him?
Dave not only talks the talk, he walks the walk! which is manifest in his successful family and business!
He also gave his businesses to his kids in a trust ensuring only blood Ramsays get shares. So sons and daughters in law can forget it. Smart man.
I like Dave's approach in this video
Strangely worried about her life if she tells him to wait for her death....
Just imagine the cajones required to ask your 83 year old mother for that much money, Jesus H. man.
Thank God, I’m childless. But if I were in that stepmother’s position I’d find a way to spend ALL THAT MONEY and would never tell the MOOCHER a thing about it. He would be very surprised…hummm that would be delicious!
That is great advice Mr. Ramsey!
Lady…let him sell his stuff/land. He needs to deal with his own life.
He knows the father left it to him… so he’s tryna ring every penny out of her before anyone else touch a dime…
Enabled people like this who have been given so much grace over the years in the form of large financial payments will do evil things to their enablers, no matter how much they say they love them. I pray that she is well taken care of and protected. ❤️❤️
Frankly, this guy would kill her if he could....I'd be afraid for my life... This is the type of story you hear about on "Dateline".
☝️- YES AND YES
My exact thought.
My mother ruined my brother by constantly bailing him out. Now he’s a grandfather who sleeps in the car he took from her with two dogs and drives for Uber eats. She never let him grow up.
@@Mrs.TJTaylorooooof
Gambling, opioid or shopaholic addiction. Any of them should not enabled.
Sadly have an uncle that does the exact same thing to my amazing grandparents. Still boggles my mind to this day and the guy has no shame, remorse, and always has excuses. Its a never ending well you are filling and things will never change unless you stop the free handouts.
It sounds like her son is using her because he knows she have the trust. He feels like he don’t have to be responsible because mommy will save him. This is crazy. No, do not gave him that money and get a food tester.
This man has an excellent future ahead of him as a politician in the Democratic party on the national level .Democrats seem to love these qualities in a candidate.
Great advice! My bet is step son won't go through with the suggestion and will blame step mom.
I know it's hard but we need to stop caring, to help adult kids that won't grow up. Dad needs to stop caring too aswell
Assisted living costs an average of $80,000/year. Nursing care runs $100K+/year. Average time spent in care, excluding Dementia care, is around 2 years. [Dementia care can readily last 8-10 years.] NONE of that is covered by Social Security. To get state Medicaid which covers [subpar] care when her money runs out, there is a 5-year lookback rule which checks for any money that has been given away...with a dollar-for-dollar penalty. This woman needs all the money she has left in the trust. Plus, you absolutely know that neither stepchild will be there to help when something "more" serious happens. It will fall to her own children to take her to doctor visits, help her manage her health, do her shopping, pay her bills and arrange caregiving.
62 and student loans 😳?
he will never learn as long as you keep giving him money. He has a lot of nerve to go to his mom and ask for money. He's a grown-up and he can get a job. I hope he didn't give him the money.
No is a powerful word.
FPU's not gonna help him cuz from what I heard, he doesn't wanna change his habits.
I know a couple who partially support two of their three children, who are in their 40s. It's as though the parents do not want their children to be financially independent.
I'm worried he would try and harm her to get the money early
This is heartbreaking. She needs to just shut the door.
Yes, I agree
My Dad passed one year after my Wife passed, and my Mom and I developed a closer relationship. My Mom just started giving me money. I asked to borrow a few times, but when I sent a check to pay it back, they never got cashed. My Brother was infuriated.
Don't take money from your mother in the first place. Can she really afford to give you money, will she have enough to support herself into old age? Your brother should speak to your mother about leaving a larger portion of her estate to him to make up for all the money you are getting now. This will avoid conflict between brothers upon her death. I am sure she would like her sons to remain connected and not be the cause of conflict between the two of you.
This call is so hilarious 😂
I wouldn’t match anything , I’d tell him to get a job & provide for his own self , this is pitiful , he’s a big boy now , he needs to act like one .
It seems somewhat common that kids think of plans to get an "advance" on their inheritance that makes sense in their minds. In this case, the guy probably thinks it's kind of his already and stepmom ended up in the middle between dad and him. He just thinks it's sharing...
This is crazy 🤣🤣🤣
I don’t know that people asking people for money but I do know that we all need to be responsible for ourselves. That being said people that are successful seem to put down the people that are down on your luck and have problems. Why don’t we start helping people instead of just tell him to get a grip. Sometimes there is no grip to hold onto.
The way he says does he not work..much is quite passive aggressive but aggressive enough to get the point across
Step daughter here. After I left my ex husband, I had to borrow money from my stepmom.
My ex took three fourths of our money out of our joint account. I had $2500 to take of myself and our daughter for two months.
My stepmom let me borrow $2000. That was one of the first debts I paid off with the debt snowball. That debt was paid off five years ago.
How sad that this 62 year old man doesn’t know how to manage money.
When the trust goes to him, it will be gone in six years.
It still won't be enough
62 and asking mom for money, let him go bankrupt lol who cares
She needs to say, "No."
She would be enabling him. He is using and abusing her.
He over spends and is relying on her to give him all he wants. She needs to tell him no.
No, no, no!
You can see Dave fizzing in this one!
I’d be sleeping with one eye open and a shotgun under my pillows!
Same thing I was thinking . Lol
Ramsey wake up! Median income in the U.S. is $35, 853. What do people do with all their money?
The money in the trust from the late husband is for her to live on until her death. The stepson should have to wait until all of stepmoms debts /medical are paid and she has passed. That could be another 10-20 years.
Then and only then does he get anything from the trust. At age 62 the stepson should be able to hold his own fort. Stepmom has no obligation to give $$. She needs to take care of herself first.
I agree, although the timeline is probably shorter, I'd say closer to 10 years. But you never know, she does sound like she's in good health.
He probably trying to give some of that money to the othe brother that lost the lawsuit
Just say NO!!!
He will figure it out if you say NO!!
This was a great call
