A very sloped roof or an A-framed roof is for the snow to run off. Different from a normal residential house sloped room. If you have a normal roof, where there is a severe amount of snow, the snow will collect, and the weight from the snow will cause the roof to collapse in, not for high winds, haha 😊
Funny, all roofs are sloped or a-frame where I live. So those are what is considered a 'normal' roof here. Ig what you consider a normal roof gives away in what kind of area you live.
I think it's the angle of the slope that makes the difference. Just because it has a little bit of slope doesn't mean it's slopped enough for the snow to not build up. Like where I've lived in England and the US the houses have sloped roofs, but designed more for rain and general tree debris and the snow we get definitely stays on the roof
@SLorraineE it depends where you live. I live in the US in Idaho. I live very close to the Teton mountains/Yellowstone/island park, and they get dumped with snow. So an A-framed house or a sloped roof is necessary for the cabins to have here for the amount of snow we get. This is mostly necessary for the cabins located close to the mountain/woods, not just normal residents' housing. The amount of snow isn't just a few inches but a few feet of snow, so it will absolutely cause your roof to collapse. Since he is replicating a build from a snow location, that is most likely the reason for the roof design. He was talking about the very sloped roof, not the normally roof sloped that the majority of residential houses have. A very sloped roof like an A-frame roof is helpful for extreme snow. I wasn't talking about a normal roof, I addressed his comment about the extreme roof slopes on the side of his build. I hope this makes sense.
As someone who lives in the mountains and has seen many a mountain lodge, a bare-bones, purely wood walls/floors, weird mismatched beds and rugs are all perfectly accurate to these types of buildings because they’re usually furnished over long periods of time with stuff just collected by the owners/left by visitors. Absolutely love this build!
he's concerned about the logistics of hauling small items up the mountain, but didn't consider the logistics of hauling all the building materials up, all the lumber and steel beams and supports, the sheeting for the roof etc. 😂 but yeah, if anyone can just go to another planet on pretty much a whim, logistics of this building really should be a non-issue.
I forgot about the onsens!!! Idk if he would have room for the outdoor one since this is a relatively small lot, but it would be pretty cool if he made the foundation a “fake foundation” and actually made it a 3 story building with no official foundation. 1st story an indoor onsen, 2nd story the common area with kitchen, dining, and living, then the 3rd story the bedrooms. You would still enter in the common area, then use columns to recreate the stilted decking since you can’t actually use foundations on different levels.
Yes, you need clouds for snow. Snow is rain. It's just below 0 degrees Celsius. The more gray and heavy clouds the more snow will come down. Also, if the sky is clear it's going to be very very cold. Snow needs to have some water in it if you want to build snow man or snow castle. About -2C is awesome. Snow doesn't clump together when it gets colder but instead it turns into powder snow that glitters like diamonds. Hello from Finland!

Somehow the roof does not look right. Coming from a very snowy area, it looks too flat? I guess if they have roof access, they could push the snow off, but we usually slant roofs a little more so gravity helps it slide off. Then again, I don't run a resort, so don't know the safety parameters for roof building for a resort.
When it’s really cold, snow act kind of like dust, so I’m thinking the ‘extra’ snow is just getting blown around by the wind. Cheers from the north of Sweden where we’re getting the first real snow of the season, they say it’s gonna fall 40 cm in 24 hours 😅

Yes Theory did a great video on this hotel (Overnight in the Loneliest Hotel on Earth) and I just watched it a few weeks ago. It's a bit surreal to see it in Sims now... and done so well!
Out of all my years of playing, I've never had a fireplace catch an object on fire. I place so much furniture and rugs really close to them too and they're always running. I think the only fireplace accident I had was a sim lighting themselves on fire when going to start the fireplace, and that was it.
At 32:29, you were wondering where the clouds were, you know that white sea like environment around the mountain top? That’s your clouds. You are above cloud level. 🤣
Realistically all beds in a hostel would probably all have the same sheets, as the owner would just find a cheap one and buy in bulk. The owner probably didn't think about the different personalities of his guests that they would have to reflect
28:43 "Is this like a wind gauge or something?" Not a bad guess, but they're actually "koinobori" (carp streamers). Families put them up for Children's Day (5th May) in Japan. The largest carp is usually black and represents the father of the family, the red carp represents the mother, and any smaller carps represent the children in the family.
I watched the Yes Theory guys travel to this exact hotel in Italy a few months ago. It is truly an epic place. I was so happy to see you build it. And to answer some of your logistical questions, they have a helicopter that they can take once a week to bring goods. Some of the workers actually prefer to do the 4000+ metre hike to work and stay for a few days and then ski back down to go home. The inside is pretty much all wood from what I remember of the video, and the views look absolutely STUNNING.
This was awesome, but definitely one of those cases where James sees a cool build and then regrets it when he realizes he has to furnish 4 bedrooms - hehehehe. Awesome though!

my friend showed me this building in the snowy region of Japan that was essential an A frame office building. It seems like it's common in snow regions because snow is heavy, and it help facilitate snow to slide off the house.
I don't know how I never realized it's an actual lot on top of the mountain. Now I want to build some sort of base camp so when my sims finally make it they can stay the night.
Don't worry James, for a build like this you'd hire professionals and they'd bring the furniture up by helicopter! They also use cranes, but I think the summit of a mountain would be too high for that lol

Great build and you captured the essence of mountain refuges , not bad for an Aussie! It brings back memories and makes me want to go glacier hiking again.

exactly my thought, it was just flurries.
@@thisisnotthechannelyourelo407 yes! Flurries haha i didn't say this because my cousins are from California and don't know snow and I remember them having no concept of what flurries were let alone the word 😂 but here in western new york its life!
Absolutely gorgeous though as a fellow Aussie I've always felt a bit weird seeing snow this time of year😅 looking Absolutely fabulous, can't wait to see your sims use it in a let's play!❤
desks for every room: maybe people write a journal or need to read maps or something?
Thank you for the snowy escapism on this chilly November day! It started snowing this week in the UK… brrrr 🙂↕️
When I summited Mt. Komoribi I had a chalet up there -- I guess I dropped it in from the gallery? I'd completely forgotten there was nothing there LOL. So I think it's really useful and nice! I enjoyed staying overnight up there.
The real life hotel James is inspired by is called Capanna Margherita in Italy (at least I’m 99% sure) and I’ve just watched someone’s travel vlog of it after watching this because I was so intrigued and omg he’s done such an amazing job just capturing the essence of the place. It’s so cool!!!
The extra snow - is loose snow blowing in the wind. Happens all the time :)
my friend showed me this building in the snowy region of Japan that was essential an A frame office building. It seems like it's common in snow regions because snow is heavy, and it help facilitate snow to slide off the house.
James worrying about the Sims shoving a whole couch on the mountain, but having a full functioning kitchen and bathroom up there. 😂
This build is just really cool. Kudos James.
Gasp! He missed the one thing that Hotels absolutely need! A reception desk for people to check into the hotel!
I was not expecting a sponsorship from Gameloft on a Sims video 😂❤
I'm doing update prep this week on DDV. I'm not getting the DLC til later tho ❤
same!! i was so surprised when dreamlight came on-screen! 🤭 congrats james on today’s sponsor! 🎉
this build is so cool, it looks so cozy!!
I agree this is a really cool build!
I don't know how I never realized it's an actual lot on top of the mountain. Now I want to build some sort of base camp so when my sims finally make it they can stay the night.
That's why they call him the Mountain Master 🏔
It’s always fun watching you execute an idea you’re excited about 🎉🎉
JT: Toddlers can't climb up a mountain, it should be fine.
EA: *cracks knuckles* Hold my beer.
You can always click on the portrait of the toddler in your household ui and “bring sim here” once you are on this lot right?
“I don’t know how snow works” 😂
This looks SO cozy
I don't know how snow works either James! I live in SoCal where we don't get this stuff called "snow." 😆
This is such a great build! Thanks for the inspiration. 🥰
Don't worry James, for a build like this you'd hire professionals and they'd bring the furniture up by helicopter! They also use cranes, but I think the summit of a mountain would be too high for that lol
I love James' builds. He is so creative. I've never think about build like him.
🍷My new favorite drinking game take a sip of my wine each time James chuckles. 🥂 Cheers!
This hotel looks like something right out of Niseko (a ski resort town in Hokkaido)! Except I've watched too much Detective Conan and I feel like a murder mystery is about to happen in the building...
Love this, I think the bunks should be a different colour bedspread for each room rather than a mixture
6:17 you can using the basement!
Really love the build! But now I'm stuck wondering how they would get the stuff up there, what the mechanics behind it are in real life
Great build and you captured the essence of mountain refuges , not bad for an Aussie! It brings back memories and makes me want to go glacier hiking again.
I love this! *side note* You know you've been playing too much when you try to "save" the game because you need to leave for a minute and realize you're watching a video. LOL!
How are you managing to recreate a cool hotel ontop of Burger Boys Land AND a real life renovation!? And soon you’ll have Dreamlight Valley islands to design 😅😩 I’m loving every single second of this content but please don’t hesitate to take a break if you need one. in the meantime I’m going to finish this video and then head over to the GluonStreams channel to watch the next part 😍
Imo the bedroom could use some tea kettles for the morning
Getting major Anatomy of a Fall vibes from this build! 💀
I love it. If my Sims ever finally get there, I'll put that up there. It's a nice mountain lodge. 💜💜💜
James concerned about how the hugs would be hard to carry there and not for once thinking about the cast iron tubs 😂
wow this is such a good lot, thank you James!!
There is a mud room type cabinet thing that I believe comes in the laundry day pack.
It’d be funny to be a dog or cat hangout bc like… where did they come from? 😂
it's like a high-elevation, rustic hostel. love it!
You could have put in a basement with a sauna and hot tub or onsen. I bet that basement would be so warm.
Nice idea for a build, James. I would've put a buffet table in the dining area like many hotels offer IRL.
My headcanon for this build is that they dropped the furniture out of a plane onto the mountain with little parachutes attached to each object.
I built an onsen on top of it like a special reward for the sims that get there haha
Such a cool idea!
Since this is Mt. Komorebi, you probably should have separated the toilet from the rest of the bathroom
