    I was using the crutch on the bad leg side. I reasoned the crutch was taking the place of the injured leg. But it has been getting increasingly difficult to strengthen the leg that way. That’s when I knew something wasn’t right. Thanks!

    Thank tremendously help. I was on two crutches now my doctor order walk in boots but I can seem to just throw crutches down and just walk in boots like that. My balance is off and my ankle is very painful. I am overweight too, so I'm afraid to put all the weight. It hurts. Can you do a video on transitioning from crutches to walking in boots with no crutches please.

    Thanks for the video. I am a hip replacement patient transitioning to crutches, and your video is an excellent refresher. This is my second hip replacement, but the last was 10 years ago, and it always makes sense to take a "refresher" class since it is important. My in home PT has given me the OK to go from walker to crutches, so off I go. (don't worry....I will not overdue it :-) ) Thanks for the excellent video!

    i need to walk like this for the rest of my life... i have just one crutch... its my stupid muscular dystrophy and nueropathy... i tried those crazy dangerous arm crutches like in breaking bad they are heavy and awkward to walk with and provide no support for poor balance and weakness...and all that leaning on just the fore-arm is not good especially long term and again if u fall easily you;d just go down like the titanic.. the regular crutch stops me from falling to the ground

    I am 65 and broke my right ankle exercising in January. I was non weight bearing for 8 weeks. I have been using a walker for the last 2 weeks (50% weight bearing) and am now transitioning to one crutch. I feel unsteady with the one crutch and feel better with 2 crutches for now. Will this slow down my recovery?

  • @eclecticmachine
    @eclecticmachine 9 років тому +2

    I believe it is best to have the crutch on the injured side, FOR SUPPORT. If falling on injured side with the method as demonstrated above one could reinjure the poor leg. Very odd method desribed here. I could only see that it is beneficial for the latest stages of recovery where the patient is also not disciplined enough to take time to walk with the "cane" method.

    • @mirriwinni
      @mirriwinni 5 років тому +1

      eclecticmachine crutch on the good leg side represents 50% on the crutch and the other 50% on the injured leg; whereas putting the crutch on the injured side means that the injured leg would bear more than 50% of the total body weight since it’s more in the center and it would exceed a 50% weight bearing scenario.

    I'm due to have a shoulder surgery in a few weeks and then will be having knee surgery a few weeks after that. These are questions I will be asking the therapist and my doctor about of course but I was curious about this and if anyone here has experience with this. Is it do-able to use one crutch with my left arm since both my right knee and right shoulder will be out of commission? If not what would a therapist likely recommend for me in terms of getting around?

    is it wrong to use the crutch on the side of the foot you hurt? I broke my right ankle, had surgery and i find it easier to walk with my right crutch? i try my left crutch but I cant balanace and its slightly painful..

  • @cable30
    @cable30 3 роки тому

    Seeing video cause soon might be stuck using crutches cause of foot surgery to be done soon and way u show it like the 1 crutch is to replace the injured leg or foot so be leaning on crutch and good leg more to not lean on bad leg so much or even step much with bad foot cause have liked push off with bad foot using front of it to not really push pressure on heel which gonna be surgery cause plantars foot as i call it easier to say lol. .

    After dislocating my patella, I've been told to slowly go from 2 to 1 crutch, the problem I'm having about doing that is the psychological fear of falling again. Do you guys have any good metal tips to phase past that and build up confidence???

    • @johnwinning9409
      @johnwinning9409 4 роки тому

      I broke my leg also you should wait till all your pain is gone before you start using one crutch .I'm using 50% weight bearing with one it hurts at first but more you do it the less scary it will be . if your worrying about falling have someone follow behind you till you get confidence about walking.my leg is going on over 7 weeks of healing if you feel to much pain doing one crutch back off.

    They are wrong the crutch should be on bad side
    Recovering from hip surgery
    You will loose balance and fall due to the pain on bad side
    So the crutch on that bad side will prevent this

    Nope, does not apply to all injuries... as I am in a supportive brace with a lateral tibial plateau fracture and for short distances it’s easier with one crutch... a pt walked up to me and said I was doing it wrong... how can I be doing it wrong if I am walking how it is helping me be without pain...🤯

      It does make sense..am recovering from broken knee...when the leg and crutch are in the same location...and you are putting appropriate body weight on the crutch...the injured leg is being aided/supported appropriately...same goes for canes. I thot the same as you.. before I broke my knee and went thru PT.
