I could be wrong about this, but Derrick J Wyatt (the art designer for the show) actually worked with the toy designers to make sure that the toys were as accurate to the show as possible and could still transform. If that's true, then that shows how much love Animated really had, when not just the show was good, but the toys were given just as much love too.
This makes a lot of sense, I remember watching the show as a kid and being completely blown away by how accurate Megatron and Bumblebee's transformation were compared to the toy
Yeah it was amazing! I remember the toys were almost exactly like the animation transformations! The unicron trilogy was kinda like that too. It feels the show was based the actual toys and not the other way around. Super cool! Those days were great! Good times! ❤
You know I've had this thought that may be the Netflix show might make a reference to elita-1 and Blackarachnia being the same bot like an animated I mean it would probably be very forced and kind of dumb but I feel like that perfectly describes the show.

Jazz's alt mode makes a lot of sense even through all of the stylistic choices- it's an amalgamation of Detroit's car culture, from the rear fins, to the side-mounted exhausts found on street tuners, and even to the overall sports-muscle aestethic.
I have so much nostalgia for the TFA toyline. For a line from nearly 15 years ago, it’s amazing how show-accurate those figures were, despite being so incredibly stylized.

fun fact Jazz was infact a ninja in the series and since then: some Fanfiction writers have both him and Prowl became depicted as a mix of both G1 and Animated versions

I took one look at the Animated designs, said "Eeeuurgh," and dismissed the whole shebang. Then I heard "Weird Al" was playing Wreck-Gar in the series. So I watched his episode. And then I got hooked, bought the entire series on DVD, and several of the toys. Dammit.

And based on the scripts, well, let's just say that it continues to prove that this colorful show is ironically the grayest of the Transformers media put on screen, even grayer than Prime is (good as IT itself is) and what WFC Trilogy is trynna be.
I’d recommend Darth T-rex’s Stories, Cybertronian Genesis and Mercy of a Prime. They act as a continuation to the series, addressing things such as Sari’s origins and potential, expanding on characters such as Soundwave and Slipstream. It’s been written for over a decade, they’re novel length and they’re very, very good. It updated just yesterday.
I don’t blame you for quitting on animated after a few episodes. I feel like most of the human villains are super generic, and I it got drastically better when decepticons starting appearing more.
Glad you came around to enjoy Animated! Hope you get ahold of more toys like Rodimus and Arcee! It's funny how the most colorful and wacky-looking Transformers cartoon is also the grayest. Plus, if you dive down the rabbit hole, there's so much to love about the interpretations of characters old and even after Animated (Animated Knock Out and Strongarm....like how!?)
something else you can do with the fourarms: put the exhaust pipes facing forward and remove the nunchuks and you've got yourself Hot Rod style wrist blasters
I think the official transformation has the tailpipes sticking up off the elbows but it looks terrible. I spin the doors around but not the pipes. I didn't even think of the melee arm weapon mode.
This line have my respects not only for Jazz but also for how they managed to make a motorcycle alt mote for Prowl that does not make you cry or fall to bits every five seconds...

Integrated weapons was a nice idea and some of my favorite designs came out of it, but the problem is if you lose the weapon part of the alt mode disappears as well and it doesn't look as good. Still, it should have some way of storing the weapon in alt mode rather than the outdated put it aside method.
I feel like Transformers Animated really gets the short end of the stick, not only being written off by most as some dorky kids show but also was overshadowed by the subsequent release of the live action movies. And it's a damn shame too when you consider all the love that went into the show. Like personally speaking I would LOVE if at some point in the future, TFA made some sort of resurgence in the modern era with updated engineering and possibly some toys based on stuff that was never made for the original show like Wasp, Bumblebee's doppelganger turned Predacon. It's currently happening right now with Beast Wars and the Unicron Trilogy somewhat so I have no doubt that It'll happen eventually.

The swirly background was fun to create. I eventually took a video of my camera sliding past my Decepticon shelf. Looped it, desaturated, added a ton of directional blur and sped the footage up until it looked right

The only thing that takes the cake for Transformers Animated for me? The way both sides were reimagined. The Autobots use melee weapons and not firearms, like Optimus Prime's axe, Bumblebee's stingers, or Prowl's ninja stars to go along with the superhero theme of them, and the Decepticons use firearms, like Megatron's fusion cannon, Starscream's null rays, and even Lugnut's P.O.K.E., to go along with their military theme (well most of them that is).
This was my first Transformers show amd the show that got me into Transformers in general. TFA Blurr was my first TF toy ever. I will always treasure Animated.
I like Animated figures for their ingenuity. they are concise, but extremely funny when you play with them. Yes, they are not often well suited as action figures, but they are more designed for the game. However, what they are designed for, they perform UNREALISTICALLY well.

I am not a huge fan of the Animated designs, but this Jazz is probably one of the best looking ones. I wish we got a new Lockdown and Lugnut!

Funny enough, after I watched this review, my local comic shop got one in, and I love him. Gotta find him some Nunchucks though.
There is a group on Facebook that's specifically for buying and selling TF parts. It's hit or miss, but that might be worth checking.
