    Re. "6 magic words"-my experience is that the most problematic anxiety isn't connected to thoughts-in fact, tends to shut down conscious verbal cognition. And I'm not worried about potential future outcomes. The anxiety doesn't have an object, it just *is*.

      And re. "everything's fine"-no one tells you everything is fine out of the blue. They tell you everything is fine because they've noticed that not everything is fine.

    9:43 your advice in this segment was really really good. I've been wanting to talk to my partner about some of the ways they could approach my social anxiety differently, because even though they also have social anxiety it manifests itself very dissimilarly to my own and this is difficult for me to explain. You've given me some really good pointers as to how to address this. Thank you

    I've had anxiety since I was young, and have a young friend who also deals with extreme anxiety. I passed on the 5,4,3,2,1 technique to her and luckily know how to talk to her when she's having issues. I generally walk her through the countdown and just let her know that I'm there for you and that I love her.

    Watching your reactions to the TikTok videos made me think about cultural dimensions within anxiety and how it leads to different symptoms & presentations across people of different cultures. Was wondering if this was something which you noticed back in your practice? How would cultural dimensions in anxiety affect the treatment/therapy for people with anxiety?
    I guess this just goes to show how complex mental health is.

    • @drali
      @drali  Рік тому +7

      Absolutely! Culture, language, life history - they all influence how we understand, experience, and present emotions. Then there's the way different groups of people might develop different types of anxiety. For example, for many Black Americans interactions with police are true alarms, not false alarms. Similar to Asian Americans and some of the rising anti-Asian hate after COVID.

      every coin has two sides, it's true that social media could make a perfectly healthy individual start having twisted thoughts and worries about their mental health for no good reason, but on the other side it could make a person with a mental health problem aware of the problem and potentialy motivate them to seek out professional help

      I def couldn't tell you without talking in person but here are some things to consider:
      Are they obsessions? ua-cam.com/video/iXnVjqeAzP4/v-deo.html
      Are they intrusive thoughts? ua-cam.com/video/k0IgCE1uxB4/v-deo.html
      Maybe one of those videos could help.

    What is the difference between a panic attack and a fit of desperation and sadness over how much you suck as a potential marriage partner and could never be chosen as one that makes you ugly cry while explaining it to some imaginary person and occasionally you start sort of hyperventilating but you only start like you only have that panicky first exhale but then breathe sorta normally (as normal as one breathes while accomodating ugly crying)?

    • @drali
      @drali  Рік тому

      Sounds like they might be related to each other for you. But a panic attack usually has a very sudden rise in a combination of the following:
      Sense of impending doom or danger
      Fear of loss of control or death
      Rapid, pounding heart rate
      Sweating
      Trembling or shaking
      Shortness of breath or tightness in your throat
      Chills
      Hot flashes
      Nausea
      Abdominal cramping
      Chest pain
      Headache
      Dizziness, lightheadedness or faintness
      Numbness or tingling sensation
      Feeling of unreality or detachment

      @essennagerry Рік тому

      @@drali Thank you very much for elaborating, you've really clarified it for me! I've had some psychosomatic experiences relating to anxiety but nothing this intense. Perhaps the fit I wrote about is better described as "emotional dysregulation"?

    • @drali
      @drali  Рік тому

      @@essennagerry Happy that helped! I like to think of emotional dysregulation as it feels like your emotions can be very quick to get activated and take a long time to come down, which leads to a lot of problems in your life.

      @@drali Oh I see, I'll be thinking about this. Thank you once again. :) I'll likely start going to therapy soon (hopefully within a few months) and your channel has been very helpful for me to get a clearer idea on what therapy can/should be! I appreciate it a lot.

      Thanks for reading and watching my stuff! I personally love blues, lavender. My wife loves greens and cream colors. My daughter loves a light yellow.
      What is most important is for you to find a color that works for you (and also anyone else that lives there) and produces the desired experience that you want.
      Best of luck!

      If you haven’t done so already, get a therapist. The idea of working on whatever’s causing the problem can be scary, or at least it was for me, but it’s not likely to improve without help. Good luck!

  • @AceyOC

    I realize for some, if not most, your worry thoughts aren't dangerous, but for me, they are. I tend to often get suicidal thoughts, that at one point, were passive suicidal ideation, then as my anxiety turned for the worse, completely exploded into full blown attempts. I have tried so many times that I've lost count. I don't know what to do, I don't know why I'm here, other than to write. Writting makes the world start spinning again when suicidal depression stops it dead in its tracks, it makes my head clear of all thoughts as I mindlessly, and endlessly jot down notes, plots, poems, and stories, suicide prevention talks, and suicide notes. they are what brings me back to reality when I have lost all reason. It is the reason I'm here, is to write.
    I know how hard it is to go through it and to lose someone to it.
    To feel the pain of loss, to lose reason, as if your head is befuddled in moss.
    It makes you feel like you're in a dream, and you'll be fine again the next day.
    It's like you're in a constant war with yourself and your brain and your heart rebel against each other,
    when in reality they are both the route of the problem.
    I don't know why I'm like this, or why God intended it this way, but all that I can say is that I give you a kiss of comfort.
    A kiss of comfort to me, means that I love you, and don't ever want to lose you, no matter what I say and do, I will love you to infinity and beyond! As my dearest Kaitlyn says to me when I'm down and in worry.
