  • Rob Andrews ‘torqs’ the inside line and more
The Torq Moto Podcast Show driven by Talon welcomes former 500cc Grand Prix and British Motocross Championship racer Rob Andrews to the couch for this week’s episode brought to you by Docbright gloves, to talk about his MX racing career throughout the 70’s and 80’s.
Rob had a fantastic motocross career, which he put down in words in his acclaimed book ‘The Inside Line’. Rob chats with hosts DocWob and ‘Jeffro’ Perrett about some of the incredible stories in his book and how it all came about. From the early days of racing starting out at Severn Valley Schoolboy Scramble club in 1977 onto switching to a 500cc dirtbike and chasing that GP dream and becoming a factory racer for Kawasaki. The trio also discuss the strength of the British MX championship scene in the 80’s and the comparisons and differences between that generation to the current, from riding techniques to motocross track designs.

The 80s and early 90s were the best without a doubt, the support class was awesome, and the top 35 were next level, there were so many supported riders, it really was the golden era,

What a great interview and my opinion this time is your interaction with Rob was perfect the back and forth painted a great picture especially for us who live in the USA and love the details!
PS: Maybe Doc needs a Doc for a little closer inspection 😁❤️🙏

Enjoyed this a lot.... especially analysing the "belief system" between champs and others being so important.

@48mins, the fact that it was so much effort to get there back in the day is probably why the racing was better! They had put so much into getting there that they weren’t going to leave anything on the table

I had the pleasure of being coached by Rob for a week at Bryan Wade's school and I'd support his views on past and present mx, I've now moved onto downhill mountain bike racing and similar things are happening there, all the tv rights have been bought by warner bros and they have dictated changes to the sport which have been detrimental.

what you have to remember jeff and wob is it,s a totally different era these day,s back in the early seventies when i started schoolboy scrambling yes guys you heard right (scrambling) there was no social media or u tube we had to rely on t&mx news for reports and results every friday and i am going to second that 70,s and eighties was the golden era. our local ssc club had greg on the prototype 125cc ccm dusting up merv and believe me he didn,t take to kindly to getting beat lol.

The problem is that racing is now expensive with all the extra costs. I don’t race that often. Looked at booking into a race in June and it cost £55 to enter, another £10 for a day licence and £10 for transponder hire.

Ever thought of a live show so your audience can ask questions, especially us who lived the era, and have memories together with whatever guests you have on !!!
    😂😮🎉😢
Love your gig btw , I'm sure I've said similar before ? 😂❤🎉

Wob, you say people can follow riders on instagram now, in the 80s anyone was in touching distance of these guys when they walked around the paddock! You could bump into a Rob Andrews if you took your kids to a gp back then and that experience would put the motocross sparkle in a kids eyes for life. These days you can bump into do not pass this tape signs if you pay paddock entry fee! The riders attitudes and availability to fans back then are what kept the crowds coming. Trucks got bigger, tape went up, attendance went down!

just listened to the pod,rob was
saying why? why better back then, not just because of hills etc,i will give a very simple answer as to why the vibe at a gp now is lifeless….being 500fucking miles away from the track, look back on the old gps how close the fans were to the track, hanging over fences nearly touching the riders, now your sat on a hill with binoculars 😵‍💫

Nearly every go track is now the same stupid corners with bumps in that take lines away also tracks today are more rutty and less bumpy and four strokes don’t help the racing

  • @krs5259
    @krs5259 3 місяці тому +1

one reason 4 strokes thats the biggest change that's killed the sport
plus the old tracks were a nightmare now its all in a car park tracks

Better not it was his idea to help bring more content to the mx industry. No one else does as much as tries too!
