You are such a breath or fresh air. No fancy stuff, just a free spirit who has escaped the insanity living your life on your terms. Thanks for who you are and what you do.
An easy way to check for a rotten egg is to fill a glass with water. Drop your egg in. If it sits at the bottom, it's good. If it floats to the top, it's a bad one! 🥚 🍳
You mentioned Guadalcanal, thousands of Marines died in the Solomon Islands in WWII. They would be proud of your courage single handing through their gaveyard.
Don't forget the thousands of Japanese soldiers and sailors who died for their Emperor. For a great read (even better on audiobook) Midnight in the Pacific by George Wheelan. A great history of the Guadalcanal campaign in World War 2. I love following your adventures.
You insprired me to buy a '30 Irwin in St. Simons ,GA and I'm getting it ready to set sail. Love your attitude and determination on getting things done and following your dreams. You are one of the most ALIIVE people I've had the honor of following. Cheers!.
Concerning the eggs, you can test an egg by putting it in a glass of fresh water. A fresh egg will sink fast and lay flat , if it sink but stays pointing up or sink really slow it’ll need to be cook well, if it floats it’s no longer good to eat. Note than an egg even fresh will float in seawater.
How have I made popcorn as a snack lo these many years and never thought to sprinkle on some nutritional yeast!? Truly this channel gives and gives and gives.
"Accepting what you have and not worrying about what's to come"..thanks!! I needed that one right now..😊❤ (besides what I try to follow "Sail by today's wind..yesterday's wind will no longer take you forward..tomorrow's wind may stay out..sail by today's wind"..or at least try😅)
There is a place for both the paper and the kindle. The Kindle is just so convenient. There are many free books out there too available online. Just make sure to back up your electronic library once in a while.
Happy New Year Captain! I love how you traded your books to the natives for food, flowers and other stuff. I'm sure they were happy to get them. I hate that the guy in the canoe ran you off. He cheated himself out of a wonderful new friendship. Sail on Captain, sail on! ⛵😎
Just a thought, many of us are super interested in the sailing aspect of your life. When you do something that seems really basic to you like putting a reef in your sail, I think that would make super interesting content 😊
capt on SV Jayden Marie..... when wing on wing the main sail boom should be on the windward side of the boat.... help keeps the head sail full. dead down wind trick we use is flying two head sails wing on wing with a reefed main pulled to center makes for a more stable downwind sail.
Enjoyable video. Here a tip to check your eggs: Place your eggs in the water. If your eggs sink to the bottom and lie flat on their sides, they are very fresh. If your eggs stand on one end at the bottom, they are a few weeks old, but still fine to eat. If your eggs float to the surface, they are no longer fresh.
Try the egg water test, simply fill a glass or bowl with cold water and submerge the eggs. If the eggs sink to the bottom and lay flat on their side, they're still fresh.

Holly, an easy way to check your eggs is putting them in fresh water, (not sure how salt water would affect, likely a bit) if they float to the top they are likely bad if they are at bottom you are fine.
I love the fact that you know as much about sailing as I do! I watch a lot of vlogs about sailing and I don’t think anyone talks the sailing language as well as you do. So I’m thanks, and hoping you’ll continue, I am now a subscriber!

I use a 2" fruit blade (definitely not a knife) to crack eggs open. This cuts the inner skin making the halving process more precise and also creates the hole to sniff the egg. Any relatively light sharpish knife does the same, as does a metal spatula. Also never put a metal spatula in your mouth. It gives you the "Joker" smile. Had to learn that the hard way.. For the thermos, a loop of chosen material attached to the corner of the sink would keep it in place. Depending on the final product, it can be moved to the side and/or stored nearby, from where it could be flipped back in service for holding the thermos when needed. If the attachment is strong enough, it can double as a handle/hand towel holder etc.
Your eggs poached in spicy tomato sauce is sometimes referred to as "shakshuka". My older daughter (about your age) makes if often. It's good with feta cheese or greek yogurt.
Thank yo9u so much Holly, your videos are so very entertaining they are real pleasure. Your spirit is indomitable. I am so glad it was a pleasant crossing and congratulations on getting your spiritual mojo going again!
Great episode. Love the grapefruit and popcorn for lunch. But you should find another way to make the popcorn. Your way burns oil. You're still young, but if your liver hurts, that's why.
I put my questions over on Patreon, but one thing I will say here is this is the type of sail that makes everyone want to sail. Lovely and Beautiful and you did very well. Your remark about the wind reminds me of Ursala La Quin's fiction...
Good stuff! I love how when you are in the cabin and you are standing still and everything behind you is rocking back and forth. Looks like a Monty Python skit with people waving "ship cabin pics" in the background to indicate "wavy seas".
easiest way to tell if an egg is off is to put it in a pot of cold water, if it floats, its off. if it sits at the bottom its fine. and anything in between is iffy
Float test your eggs like the other person said. If they sink they are good. If they sink and stand up they are a couple weeks old, if they float they are bad. The Lil pocket on top the egg will fill with gas when they are bad and make it float. Also u can water glass eggs. They last forever that way. Also if u get farm fresh eggs u don't need to refrigerate them
Got to say, and i have never said this, but i am actually impressed. Very good things i see here and im happy and smiling. Good job. Just good job. The sea is awesome and i love the attitude. It means so much. Just good job on the videos

Yes! Susan Casey and "The Wave"! I think I mentioned a while ago in one of my comments, a recommendation for that book. I go back to it every year or so and reread it and enjoy it each time just as much as I did the first time I read it. Maybe someday you will get to meet her! I've yet to read "Voices in the Ocean". Yes, I agree with you about the Kindle. I fought it for YEARS because it just felt UNNATURAL,,,, 📖 However, here in the jungle in Central America we have so much moisture and bugs 🐛 that eat (and 💩) on everything ! And books get ruined 😢

Their history is everywhere. It's amazing to see it all first hand
Ahem…and sailors. More, actually. 😉
The Army also had a major presence on Guadalcanal. My dad was there. But the Marines got all the glory.
Holly - was that Savo island in the distance?

The only problem is,freshwater is very precious on a sailboat. So you couldn't use it in that manner.
