Love my Defy. It's served me very well throughout the summer in Colorado. Great interview, Pete was very upfront and honest, which is super commendable.
I picked up one of these since I rarely get out in the Backcountry but since I go with my son I realized it was important to have a backup plan. Prior to this device I couldn't justify the price of a Garmin or similar and service for two trips a year. I first tested up in the Adirondacks and was pleased with how easy it was to get it connected. I was a bit apprehensive since there is heavy tree cover and the satellites are so far away. I did have a few messages that failed to send but didn't show as not sent...but this was in the first month or so of launch so it could be growing pains. Either way I was pleasantly surprised and feel confident this will be a fixture in my gear out.
Interesting conversation! It's great these companies have people to talk to you. Only nitpick with this device is that the SOS button doesn't have a cover on it.
I can’t get mine to connect to the blue tooth on my phone. I emailed the company for help but no emails back and I can’t figure out how to get ahold of any one there.
You have to connect through the app not the standard Bluetooth connection. I think that happened through an update because I connected mine and tested it at launch and then haven't needed to use it since and tried it again this weekend and got an error for that reason.
Maybe I missed it, sorry if so... Does it also have a tracking function so people at home can see where you are or do you always have to send a check in message to share your location?

Oh...one other thing...I 3d printed side covers to keep me from inadvertently hitting a button especially the SOS.

no tracking enabled yet, but there is a greyed out option in the app so I assume they are working on it.
