    🌟Answers to frequently asked questions:
    How big is the round disc size: 4cm in diameter.
    What fabric should I use: I recommend 100% cotton, tightly woven and thin. Try 2-4 layers depending on how thick the fabric is. If your fabric is not 100% cotton, it may let your needle through.
    Did you use the zippers: No. I didn't. It was just for the fun effects. 🤗

    This is so delightful and cheerful. I was lucky enough to be able to get a metal sashiko style thimble when I splurged to order good needles, but one can never have too many. Even if I never follow this tutorial watching it made me smile. Your editing style is just pure joy. Thank you.

    I just bought a $0.90 pair of jeans at a thrift shop and am ready to make this palm thimble!!!

    Just made one. But as a rectangle. I took the waistband from the jeans, pushed the leather label inside, closed the two edges and sewed the "ring" out if a belt loop on. It feels good in the hand. The sashiko needles will arrive on Wednesday, then I'll give it a try. My first try with regular needles gave me the feeling, that these needles are too short.

    Thank you so very much XiaoXiao for making this wonderful video! I followed your instructions and made my own Thimble (what is this kind of thimble called in Japanese?). It’s not as pretty as yours of course, but I’m actually pretty proud how it turned out. While cutting my circle out of the waistband of my father’s jeans (don’t worry, he was done with them 😉), I noticed the rectangle leather patch that most manufacturers sew into the back waist band of jeans to show their brand. I removed it easily with my seam ripper and because it’s not too thick, I was able to cut a circle out of it to match the size of my fabric (denim) circles. I made the fabric circle first, then attached the leather circle to the back of my Sashiko thimble circle, then sewed it onto my ring (made from the belt loop of the same black jeans.). I wish I could up load a picture here to show you as I’m so grateful for your instructions.
    Thank you so much.

    I’m surprised that the needle eye doesn’t poke through. I expected to find you’d put a layer of leather inside! But that’s a great way to wear a thimble! And many people don’t like our western version as it feels bulky on the finger tips, or keeps falling off! I’m going to try this. If I do find thinner needles poke through, I shall put a small circle of hard plastic between the layers. That should do the trick.
    Thank you for your lovely videos. Your gracious gentle speech is solace to my tired ears. And your workmanship is beautiful and your teaching an inspiration to try sashiko. Thank you

    • @lormcdonald6721
      @lormcdonald6721 Рік тому +5

      Hi Bella Bee;
      Me too, I was concerned about being poked. While cutting out my circle from the waist band on my Dad’s old jeans (I’ve asked all family to keep their old jeans for me to upcycle ♻️😉), and noticed the leather rectangle that is on most jeans sewn onto the waistband at the back… so I got out my seem ripper and removed it. I was able to cut a circle out of it, because they are not too thick, and using a stiff/sharp darning needle, I was able to attach my stitched circle, following the above tutorial, and then was able to sew it to my belt loop ring I had made. It’s not as pretty of course, but it works great and is more flexible than a plastic disc I think. My father used to make leather finger thimbles for my Mom when I was young. I remember she loved them, as the needles never went through the leather.

For other sashiko projects, you should be able to find a link in the description of my needle recommendation. But, yes, I should make a video on how to choose sashiko needles according to patterns and fabrics very soon. :)

      Because denim is originally a cotton fabric (nowadays it’s often blended with Lycra or Polyester), but cotton is the best I found (as well as more traditional)…. But I too wondered if a different blend might glide easier? Please let me know if you’ve experimented?

    Can you use muslin or cotton fabric from the fabric store?

      Hi, I would suggest some thicker fabric like denim. :)

      Hi Carolina, thank you! The fabric I used is thinner than normal blue jeans, and I used 4 layers. You may want to reduce or add layers depending on what fabric you are using. Have fun with the new project. :)

      Hi, it’s a fabric marker. I mark the position of where I attach the disk and the ring for the most comfy position. :)
