@@chickenleg002 Yeah, it works like a darning egg but bigger! I ran to my sewing stash to try this immediately and this works exactly how my darning eggs do. :) One thing I did a little differently is I shoved a stuffed animal inside my magazine to give it a little more structure since mine was a little on the thin side. I was able to pack it in pretty densely and tape it up which gave me a nice firm cylinder to sew on top of. (I'm sure that with a thicker magazine this wouldn't be necessary.)

This is the most beautiful way of mending I’ve seen in a while. With a husband and 4 sons, there’s a lot of mending. I have 2 questions, would this work on socks? And where can I get a metal palm thimble like yours? I’ve only been able to get leather ones. I watch from Perth, Western Australia. Thank you for sharing. 🌹Rosie of Oz🇦🇺 & 🐶Omega the Cavalier🐶
Thank you so much for your comment😻 I’ve seen Sashiko mending on socks before but I haven’t tried myself yet. The one I’ve seen had a small patch and stitches on it. One thing I need to mention is that the Sashiko stitches prevent the material from stretching. That means the socks can loose the stretch…so I recommend mending just a small area but not on the whole sock if you are going to try it. There is another visible mending video I’ve done before with a small round patch. I feel that this may work better on socks. ua-cam.com/video/8cnzQTAEJ-c/v-deo.html But I should try to do a video to see if it works in socks! As to the metal thimble, probably Amazon or Etsy are the easiest place to get. But again, I have a video about making one by yourself using a covered button kit. If I were you, I would do one more thing on the wrong side which is a kind of thin fuse or silk like fabric not only as extra support but also make the fabric " SMOOTH " ( not scratching to the skin ) when wearing ..... Only a small suggestion !
What is the metal pad that's on your hand to press the needle? I'm just getting into embroidery/sewing and it looks so useful! Beautiful work on the jeans!

Thank you for asking! I used a piece of plain cotton quilting fabric. You can also use denim (thicker fabric is harder to stitch though). I see. There are a few different ways to do a back stitch. I’m showing how I do for Sashiko in this video⬇️ How to start and finish stitches without making knots ua-cam.com/video/5llXYm38rwQ/v-deo.html If I’m using a back stitch for mending, I probably will do the way I did at around 8:35 and I try to stitch through the thread too to make sure it’s secured. In the video, I stitched back from the front, but you can bring the needle to the back and back stitch from the back too. Otherwise, you can also do a back stitch a few times just like normal hand sewing or embroidery. I suppose that should be inside of the leg so that it won’t disturb the pattern outside. For mending, the area you need to mend is likely to be stretched and rubbed frequently. So, I recommend to make sure the back stitch is secure and the thread won’t come off, before working on the pattern. Good luck with your project❤️
@@thegreenwrapper No I mean in general. I know how to back stitch. I'll try to explain what I mean. If you cut out a square for a patch, I think you sew around the whole square on the back side or wrong side of the jeans/pants. Or it could be the same on the front side. That's what I meant lol
I’m really sorry that I’m struggling to understand the question (due to my poor English). In this video, all I did was to sew around the hole (as you see in the video) and stitched the Sashiko patterns. I didn’t sew or baste around the patch. The Sashiko stitches hold the fabric well and the fabric won’t fray much if it is stitched well with Sashiko. As to the back stitch you are talking about, unfortunately I’m not sure if I understand well. I’m sorry that I couldn’t help… I hope you will find the answer to it❤️

Hi, I think I haven’t tried to mend heavyweight denim, but it probably depends on the denim. If it’s tightly woven and stiff, you may struggle to stitch through. You’ll probably need a thick needle and thick thread. Before drawing a pattern, try to stab through the denim and patch material with your needle (I’ve broken some needles in the past because of the thickness😅). Also, the mended area is likely to lose its stretch because of the nature of the stitches, so make sure your denim leg is wide enough to wear after mended. Good luck❤️😊🪡🧵
@whiskerwhisper44 I personally use Olympus’s Sashiko needles which comes as a set of two long needles to mend denim jeans. It doesn’t need to be a Sashiko needle though. You’ll need a needle which is strong enough to stitch through your denim and has an eye large enough for a thick thread👍
When i do this kind of work, i roll up a magazine inside the leg of the jeans. It prevents me from sewing the jeans to themselves 😂
That’s a good idea!

I didn’t sew or baste around the patch. The Sashiko stitches hold the fabric well and the fabric won’t fray much if it is stitched well with Sashiko.
As to the back stitch you are talking about, unfortunately I’m not sure if I understand well.
I’m sorry that I couldn’t help…
I hope you will find the answer to it❤️

I like my holey jeans. But this is neat.
Thank you😊❤️🪡🧵
My kitty does the same exact thing. I have a stand up ironing board ordered just because my little flufferkins thinks my tabletop one is her personal bed.
😻😹😻😹
What is that ring your using to push the needle through called?
It’s a Sashiko thimble. You can purchase one or make one by yourself.
Here’s the DIY tutorial!

Are this tricks works in some heavyweight denim? Like 17 oz or above
@@thegreenwrapper can you recommend the needle, for the thicker fabric?
Sorry my english are bad
@whiskerwhisper44 I personally use Olympus’s Sashiko needles which comes as a set of two long needles to mend denim jeans.
It doesn’t need to be a Sashiko needle though. You’ll need a needle which is strong enough to stitch through your denim and has an eye large enough for a thick thread👍
@@thegreenwrapper thank you so much for the answer
I'm willing to try this out, but my jeans always get bad at more unfortunate places..
I usually get a hole on my knees but I’ve seen people stitching it on all sorts of areas😅
