Peter & Bauhaus are some of the most overlooked musicians ever. Bauhaus was like nothing that ever existed before them. I was a bit young to know about them while were.still together, but it only took a friend playing the Bela Lugosi 7" to make me a life long fan.There is an eerie coldness to Bauhaus music that nobody else has ever been able replicate.
well considering the bands wildly different styles between the members the fact that they got on for as long as they did is amazing. As to Peter he does get a little testy when forced to hang out at goth venues or really goth anything The one thing I always thought was odd though is J and Haskins becoming hip hop DJ's and Haskins doing a trip-hop album.

No, he doesn't. Peter Hammill is actually the proper one. He is the true Goth Father! And no one knows him. That is really curious! It shows that most "goths" only see goth music as fashion. And a lot of "goth" music is not as underground or alternative as "fashion goths" want to make believe. Have you heard Van Der Graaf Generator or Peter Hammill solo stuff? He makes Goth music before the term invented and used, in the early 70's. Listen progressive music, guys and open your minds.
During this entire interview I was admiring Mr Murphy's composure thinking to myself "I need to be a more patient and kind person like Peter". Then then ending - that seemed more relatable to me! :). I guess everyone has their limits.

I remember him giving an absolutely awe inspiring performance on a late night talk show with Dennis Miller, wearing just about the coolest outfit I'd ever seen, and then thumbing his nose at the host. I never knew what that was all about (though Miller doubtless deserved it), but here he seems quite friendly.
Red Velvet Lines, The Black Box....Murphy is usually very serious but if you've seen earlier interviews and the people he mixes with and his solo work as well as what i am sure was a scale paid appearance in Twilight..I also dig his light hearted appearance here as far too many think he is just this vampire guy with no other side.My therapist once said we are all diamonds & depending on what and where the light shines is how WE reflect to others...so thanks for upload and Mr. Murphy for sharing.
I saw him in concert when I was a kid in the 90s and he was so funny. You wouldn't think he would be, because you expect him to be all dark and serious. But he was super funny and really nice.
That footage of Eno calling down aliens from space in that Old Grey Whistle Test video - priceless. The whole video is incredible, and nearly impossible to find on youtube, keeps getting ripped down. Murphy seems down to earth in this - his personae on stage are aloof and downright scary at times. :)
I love that Peter is into Metallica, because his sometimes pretentious fan base will knock Metallica just for the sake of the genre they're in. Kind of like some jukebox lacking style and soul..
I like a lot of thrash like Slayer and Anthrax and Exodus, but I think Metallica is overrated. It isn't the genre issue for me, it's just I want my thrash metal bands to have edge, not be middling boomer rock bands that have only one album that actually sounds dangerous, their debut

Not so much pretentious I thinks.. Metallica were a true culty and edgy band after Justice ⚖ they just went hollow.. they seemed to have meandered back, got smart 🤓 traded Bob Rock for Rick Rubin to regain some of that substance lost. The music is much better now.

My neighbour Sue said there's a video of a man with a black mouth in a chair from the 80s that gave her the creeps and I ended up thinking it was the Maxwell ad with Pete Murphy as I only vaguely remember it as a tiny kid, but it's not him at all. It's some skeleton looking man with a black mouth. I recall Pete Murphy being quite sexy really so was relieved when I saw this and the Maxwell ad! Bela Lugosi is a fantastic track btw. Not keen on his taste in music it's a bit what you'd expect but still he's an interesting, attractive man... well you know I live in the South East UK and there's not many of them about!
