Your design is exactly the look I have been searching for. Thank you for the wonderful tutorial and details. Ill be starting my shrug tomorrow 😊
Great!!! I am do glad to hear this!! I wish you wear your shrug and it looks perfect to you!!!
beautiful pattern i’ve gone crazy and am on my 15th shrug!! 😜 love this pattern and used many different types of yarn; they’re all soo beautiful 🤩 thank you mary!
I know that this is a really late comment, but I just came across this. I wanted to thank you for showing all of us how to do this. It is so simple yet elegant. It is perfect for what I need. I wanted something pretty & lacey looking. I was able to find a new yarn by Red Heart called 'Red Heart Metallics'. It is a size 4 yarn. The nice thing about this yarn is that the color that you choose has the same color of metallic fiber in it. Not the typical silver or gold woven throughout the color. I chose black which has a black metallic fiber running through it. Perfect for what I was looking for :) Because the yarn is a size 4, I ended up using a 12mm hook which is perfect too! Thanks again & have a beautiful day! xxx
I made this! This was the first thing I crochet for myself yo wear!
I am glad more than you are, thank you!!
Hello all, I'm planning to prepare this beautiful piece, can somebody advise how much yarn i should buy? Im size 16, eur 44. How big the rectangular should be? Can anyone advise? Many thanks! Gyöngyi

I am working on this now with cotton yarn and a I/9 5.5mm hook. The stitches are tighter than yours but I figured with it being cotton it would stretch out a bit. It's so pretty already!! Thanks for the great tutorial, as I cannot read a pattern very well!

FYI- the armhole is demonstrated @21 mins. Beautiful shrug, well demonstrated. I'm a larger person, and will have to make longer & wider...in your opinion, do you think I can not fold in half, but in ⅔, & ⅓, so not so much is bunched around the back of the neck? Thanks for answering! Ellen in Denver⛰❣
Do you have a written pattern for this? It’s so beautiful!!
Wow Thank you for sharing this with us! You've made it very clear and simple to follow and I cannot wait to make my first one as soon as I can get the yarn that I need. I will do the edge you showed us! SO BEAUTIFUL!

Maria Grasia Thank you so much Maria for your sweet reply. Yes, I will try to send a photo when I complete the pattern. It will be perfect for any cool evenings this Spring/Summer! I see you live in Greece...I just received my DNA results from 23andMe as I wanted to find out more about my ancestry, and a big part of my heritage comes from Greece and Italy. I bet its beautiful there! I hope to tour your part of the world someday and learn more! Sending Best Wishes ♥ Dee Dee
Dee so you are partly Greek !!! It's fantastic, to discover about your past. Yes I am Greek I love in northern Greece in Thessaloniki, I hope you travel here one day, you will love it, where do you live?
Maria Grasia My father was in the Air Force and was last stationed in Albuquerque, New Nexico USA. My parents loved it here and they stayed when he ended his military career. My Greek side surname is Sparta. Have you ever heard the name?
Dee Sparta is the name of a city in peloponese in southern greece . You know the 2 kingdoms in ancient Greece ? The one of Athens and the one of Sparta, two enemies cities , they dad a war between them for many years so you'd surname is a famous Greek name! You are living in a very nice city of USA!!!
Gorgeous!! Love your accent my parents are Croatian so it sounds similar to you
Mel hi!!! Thank you! We are neighbors!! Warm regards from Greece Mary!

@@merrymarystories8645 can't wait for your next videos , I am doing this shrug right now, after finishing it I will tell you how it turned out.thanks again for your easy and clear tutorials 😍😍😍
Hi, i really like this pattern.
I tried this with a different yarn and using a 6mm hook loosely. I made 130 chain foundation. It started wide enough, but the tension was too tight and soon the rectangle was too narrow.
I have started to crochet around the edges now to make it bigger and it looks ok. I hope it comes out right in the end.🙄
I will definitely make another, but will stick closely with the instructions next time and use a bigger hook!😁
Hi D , I am so glad you are crocheting the shrug! Well the secret for this texture is the big hook , it seems a liitle bit strange and its true at the beginning it looks like the loops are too big but a t the end its going to be nice. So you found the solution for the width, well done! When you do the next one lets keep in touch , i will wait to hear from you! Warm regards from Greece Mary!
GREAT PATTERN! PLEASE DO MORE LACE PATTERNS LIKE THIS
Hi Nona , thank you!! I will!! regards Mary
Good afternoon Merry Mary, just to let you know, I have finished my lacy Shrug, an it is so lovely an comfy, I made it in some Cherry Red Cotton yarn found in my stash, an love this pattern so much will be making more of it. I love the way the back sits nice an flat just like a normal cardi, as some shrugs can be like a Turtle round the Bottom area, an you end up with a Booty Pouch after sitting. ha ha. your pattern is perfect, nicely curved an definitely no Booty Pouch. ha ha. blessing to you from North West England U.K. an many thanks for sharing your gift of Craft.
Sonja hi!!!? O k loved this Booty Pouch you said!!!! Thanks God mine is not like this turtle round bottom !!!! I am glad it fits you well if you were a buyer on Etsy I would ask you to write a review!! He he!!! Well send me a photo on fb if you want!! I will make a similar patern for winter, so you crocheted the chains I suggested or you added?
Hi Merry I did what you said, think it was 124, I am size 18/20 need loose fit due to chronic pain, an this meets nicely in the middle, I am getting a new phone, so will be able to take photos an post, them, grankids going teach me how to post on site where I got pattern, I am 72 an not really super techy. I taught myself to crochet from books many over 50 years ago, so love being able to learn more from the kindness of yourself an others who selflessly share your craft. many thanks.
Sonja you are a great !! So lucky to have grandkids, I am looking forward to having grandkids I am 56, my mother had grandkids at fer 45, anyway in the meantime I crochet and write PDFs!
Sonja Birch Did you sew the sides closed before you added the edging all around?
THANK YOU DEAR!!!! YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL AND TALENTED!!!! THE SHRUG IS AWSOME!!!!
THANK YOU A LOT))
MARIA LORD hi!!! Thank you so much for leaving me a word here warm regards Maria!!

@@merrymarystories8645 I don’t post on Facebook. The yarn I used is Red Heart Stripes Sea coral,it’s sold in USA.
Thank you for the lovely pattern. I will make one but with a thinner hook, a 4.5 mm. I like it if the stitches are a little tighter so that the nice pattern shows more..
Sigrid thank you!!! It will be very pretty with a smaller hook, try it and send a photo I Facebook, regards Maria!
Margo I will make a small sample and I will tell you!!
Margo hi , with a 4,5mm hook you should chain 143 or 150 chains
Love this thank you so much I’m giving it a go but with smaller hook as I prefer the stitches closer together and the pattern shows lovely
Hi Sue , thank you so much I wish you will love your cardigan! I think it will look nice with the smaller hook as well! regards Mary
I think I will try this. Love the lacy pattern. Thankyou

This is lovely. I’m going to make it in pink Thank you very much x
Debbie hi!! I am glad you are going to make it, tell how it fits you and send a photo at the end! Thank you Maria!
Love this pattern!!! I started out making the shrug, but kept going with the length. I loved the way it was turning out so much that I thought it would get more use as an afghan. I used a number 1, 3 ply fingering wait yarn and a 7.5 mm hook. Even though the yarn is a number 1 weight, it came out not as Lacey, but so gorgeous! Thank you so much for sharing. PS.. does this pattern stitch have a name?
Hi Carolyn!! Thank you so much for telling me all this, love to read you!!
No stitch pattern has no name.
Warm regards Mary from Greece
Hi.. Thanks a lot.. wonderful video.. I am trying this right away. But I am not clear making the arm hole part. Please let me know in which part of the video you are explaining the arm hole . I am ready with rectangle pattern and post that I am unable to proceed.

Just lovely! Thank you for teaching us. Warm regards and much love to you!
Hellige hi thanks for the company we keep each other!
So beautiful!!!
Hi ive just finished the shrug 😊 if I did it again I would check the patern before ggoing onto the next rowe, because its so loose easy to get the stiches mixed. Its a very forgiving pattern though and Im very happy with the final result.thanks so much ,I'll be wearing my shrug when spring comes .
Hi Kaye, thank you, I am glad it turned out ok! You know this very loose sts yes it may be confusing , same thing happens when we crochet with a very small hook and a thin yarn. But i wanted to achieve this wrinkled texture thats why I used a big hook and a thinner than the hook demands yarn! I hope you wear it and be happy in it , send me a photo in facebook facebook.com/merrymarystoriesblog/?ref=bookmarks i will turn my page in english pretty soon and I would like to post your photos there! regards Maria!
Maria Grasia thanks so much for the quick reply ,will try and put a photo of my finished shrug, I'm a size 3x
Kaye great!!! I want to see it on you ,3X is a beautiful size!!I believe this shrug fits all body types!! We love our bodies !!
