Lagaan is my favourite film of all time. I treasure it. It is also my happy film--if I feel I'm possibly losing faith in human beings for a while I at once watch Lagaan. I have recommended it to many different people and rewatched it again and again with friends and relatives and every single person has been riveted to this wonderful film and its purpose--even those who are actively NOT fond of cricket! It is a transcendent work. That goes for so many other Aamir Khan films as well. I am full of admiration for this brilliantly creative man and the depth of thought and emotion he achieves with his stories on screen. That said, when it comes to this interview, please allow me to commend Jyoti Deshpande for her good humour and tolerance . In the latter part of the interview, when she was asked a question and gave a full, thoughtful answer, she received no response or respect from the interviewer, who immediately asked another question of Mr Khan. Later when she tried to express an opinion to both men, their voices at once drowned hers and she could not finish a single sentence. And this in an interview where patriarchy was being discussed .... but not sufficiently reined in, guys!
