This is my favorite heads song. This was mine and my beautiful wife for 40 years song. Every word in this song hits the heart. My wife died last year and the words are so true.
Sorry for your loss. I had a loss much like that, perhaps worse. If she had died, it would have been better. I would have had closure. But the way she chose it, I had neither. At least she died while still loving you.
Hi Bob, my beautiful wife of 35 years went for a "routine surgery" and was rendered without speech or mobility due to admitted medical negligence. I am now her sole carer and although it is hard, I know that this still is the place. God bless you. Kevin xxx
Sanity is seeing the importance of these words.. This movie hit me in my gut.. I had to watch the movie this was cut from twice right off.. ten times since.. Brilliant.
My favourite song of all time. Applicable to any event or milestone in life. Could be foreshadowing the happiest of beginnings. Or the saddest of endings. Truly genius.
David Byrne is one of the finest groundbreaking original musicians of the last 50 years. He's humble magnificent and ever changing. He's the American Bowie. And god do I love him.❤
The notes are whimsy...the words are full of the anxiety and bliss that envelopes the soul when love finds you...they swirl together in a dance that makes you want to cry. Sublime.
Agreed. My holy trinity of TH songs is this, Nothing But Flowers, and Road to Nowhere (OK, add Girlfriend is Better and a bunch more too), but this is the music of the spheres. Some of String Cheese's versions are transcendental and now they are doing Nothing too. Life can be such a blessing...
@@stickykitty what's with this gangster nonsense, have you watched the mans performance on later with Jools Holand. out standing. those strings really come to life and the man's movement is just as mad as he ever was, or is that just the same as it ever was.

She isn't visible in the scene, which made her mad... " I listened to that stupid song and danced around like I was enjoying it for nothing! 😡" No Sweetie, you did that for $8 an hour, and a free sandwich, snacks and non-alcoholic drinks.

Every time I listen, I get an unnatural compulsion to stay up for numerous days straight fuelled only by coffee, making industrial quantities of Kimchi... Hauntingly beautiful...
Their songs were the best songs for 80s film's soundtrack, especially the ending credits of a action/adventure film. Their songs were really good wrap up songs to make the film feel like it'll go on forever and makes you wanna rewatch it.
I wish I could have been an extra in that audience. This is one of the sweetest performances of this song I've ever seen. Love hearing everyone sing along.
David Byrne on this song: "That's a love song made up almost completely of non sequiturs, phrases that may have a strong emotional resonance but don't have any narrative qualities. It's a real honest kind of love song. I don't think I've ever done a real love song before. Mine always had a sort of reservation, or a twist. I tried to write one that wasn't corny, that didn't sound stupid or lame the way many do"
Thank you for posting this, it’s the first time I’ve read David’s opinion/interpretation of the lyrics and I’m glad he wasn’t being ironically negative about love and relationships. I’ve always believed this song perfectly encapsulates the crests and troughs of love and life, and how it can sometimes be so hard but ultimately it’s worth the fight because the good far outweighs the bad. It’s a beautiful song and I’m glad he meant it as so.
This song wasn't my favorite as a kid. I thought it was so sweet, sickly so. So mellow and kind in tone; even though I knew the words I didn't know what they meant. When I got older, when I experienced a little bit of heartbreak and love, oh... Oh God when I heard it again I wept. My initial impression was true, but there's just a mix of sadness, of disappointment and resignation mixed in there. A divine heaven or a miserable outcome, a genuine yet unexpected connection that may or may not be permenant. It all hit me and I cried like a child, it became my favorite. This moment in this film captures that perfectly. The stage, the performance, even the crowd getting into the beat and singing along. And then right in the back is the musician, someone who not only hears the lyrics but understands their meaning, and he's crying. This film is heartbreaking but so very good.
Great Song and great overall direction of this performance. David Byrne's creativity has definitely not stopped after Stop Making Sense. Amazing stuff!
I’m from Baltimore, David Byrne’s hometown, and somehow never heard this one until I found MGMT singing this early at their college (one of my favorite videos!). I’m thinking of this for my mother/groom dance! Love this orchestral version so much!
I saw Talking Heads in 1983...the Speaking in Tongues Tour that became "Stop Making Sense". To this day...and I have seen alot of live music since then...it's one of the greatest concerts that I have ever been to.

What is this???? I have never seen this video before. Seriously I have been playing this song/ melody for more than 20 years. The simple, naive melody is exactly the internal pulse I feel in my body. I believe we all have an internal rhythm and this song IS MINE. It is my background music, my ear worm, my answering machine background music. and my comfortable place.
This scene features in the film "This must be the place" starring Sean Penn. There's an extended version of the film on the blu ray which features an even longer version of this scene. I found this to be the best scene in the film.
