0:00 Intro
0:05 The technician said it needs a new engine. Didn't mention anything else. That's why a pre-purchase inspection is always recommended, especially on a Diesel!
0:23 Technician said: "They caught something between the head and engine block. That created an oil leak. They removed the head and tried to repair the damaged engine block. It didn't work very well. Hahaha."
0:36 The customer said they drove it to the shop because they didn't have any more free tows with AAA.
0:46 As mentioned the customer cut the frame since there was apparently no room for them to go to the power steering box. You should never cut a frame.
1:00 The technician said: "2011 Equinox 200,000+ miles / 321868 kilometres. Complaint of clunk sound when braking. The torque box was rusted away and the trailing arm support broke. The repair involved a piece of scrap strut channel and welding and a new trailing arm. But for an SUV that is close to the scrap yard that is the best, it's going to get."
1:06 The technician said the upper bolt was cross-threaded and has been for quite a while. The CV axle wasn't the issue.
1:14 If it works it works. Not bad for 20 bucks. It would be a very uncomfortable ride but will get you where you need to go! The truck is a Ford Raptor so I'm going to assume they were using it for some jumping/off-roading and that's how they broke a shock.
1:28 Technician said: "A recap is when a shop shaves off the remaining original tread of a tire and they mold a tread onto the tire using adhesive and heat I believe. I’m not sure about the process so that’s the best way I can describe it. It’s pretty much a tire that looks new, but it’s not really new. It’s a cool concept but I don’t trust recap tires, I’ve seen too many fail."
1:38 That's a Snickers bar somebody tried to put in the fuel filler neck. The technician said 3 tires were also slashed.
1:46 That's the outer tie-rod end that is hanging on for dear life. I'm surprised the customer drove it in and surprised the technician didn't crash the vehicle.
1:57 2008 Nissan Pathfinder 146k miles / 234964 kilometres.
2:09 The customer is very lucky they went to a shop right away when they were having an issue. This could have ended pretty bad for the customer as all the brake fluid leaked out.
2:19 Very worn-out rear tires on an SRT Dodge Charger.
2:31 Fake turbo on a customer's Dodge Charger lol.
2:39 Broken glove box on an Opel (didn't mention model).
2:42 As mentioned VW switched to 12v electrical systems in 1967.
Before that, they were 6V electrical systems.
2:58 Outro. Thanks for watching! - Авто та транспорт
I think the reason I like your channel is just how simple you keep it. No 3 minute intro with an extra 8 minutes of useless taking. You get right to the content and the content is always good. Bravo!
Second that! (edit - forgot...no crappy music!)
I appreciate that!
Well said !
True dat. However a bit more explanation of some of the "faults" would be nice - e.g. the first one: obviously something serious in the engine, but it would be nice to know what the exact diagnosis was (and if they opened it up to see the wreckage). Sounded like a big end bearing but that smoke... dropped valve maybe? And if so how does only one cylinder have something like that happen?
I don’t even know Jack shit about cars, but I love this channel because even I can understand the stupidity and I love the simplicity of the videos
That brake hose conversion wins the award of the year for the craziest thing I've ever seen
Yeah, that was full on dumb... not even a flare on the ends which still wouldn't of worked!
"The typical full-lock operating pressures are 900-1,000psi (69 bar) with manual brakes and 1,400-pluspsi ( 96 bar) with power-assisted brakes."
Back in the 70's, a guy came in with a VW beetle that had a piece of vacuum hose spliced in where his R/F brake hose should have been. Amazingly, it didn't leak, but the hose swelled up to radiator hose size when you pressed the brakes! Oh, and he didn't want it fixed.
And surprise! They are out of business. Probably also declared bankruptcy so they don't have to pay out for a lawsuit.
Exactly why they are called "Fly by Night".
NOT surprised they're out of business
Attempted murder
The $20 shock fix. Not exactly great but as a TEMPORARY band-aid...just avoid hard bumps.
I’ve done many a repair on the $20 budget mark, or just things of a similar nature.
Once had one of my battery leads corrode after a defect new battery was installed, it leaked a little within a few days and ate the end of one of the leads just enough that it wouldn’t make good enough contact, this issue only presented itself when I was two states over on my way back home.
Local shop out that way i stopped at after struggling to get the car started wouldn’t be able to get a battery same day as they were just about to close and the auto parts stores were closed, so knowing that the battery was toast anyway, and the leads would have to be replaced anyway, they drove a wood screw into the space between the leads and the terminal and that worked just well enough to make it home for a proper repair, on the agreement I would order pizza for them remotely for their next door working day, which I did.
Let’s not even mention the garden hose transmission coolant line replacement I did on someone’s ranger on the side of the expressway, garden hose, the hose clamps from my cars intake, and some zip ties were just good enough to not dump the remaining transmission fluid everywhere, someone else who stopped had a bottle of power steering fluid which was enough to get it functional, if unhappy.
@@biscuitdingus Replace a shredded V-belt w/ 1/4" rope wrapped several times between crank & water pump then draw snug & tie while being sure the loose end is as small as possible. Attempting to connect the alternator may result in too much potential slack. Had to do this once on my 84 VW w/ the 1.6 NA IDI diesel where the crank & WP pulleys were right next to one another (could barely fit a pink tip between them). This repair is really only practical for older vehicles (limited or no EFI) where electrical draw on the batter is as low as possible. Works best on older diesels that have only 1-wire in the whole ignition system...the cutoff solenoid in the IP. As long as you don't shut down you will run out of fuel before battery dies if daytime. But even if "dark" the solenoid can stay engaged even w/ a "dead" battery...just might not re-engage.
In a pinch, you gotta do what you gotta do... And $20 is not that bad... I'd call it a win until they can fix it
It's still dangerous to others on the road, one hard breaking and he is on the other lane, just call for tow truck.
Just completely remove the shock.
Cutting out part of the frame for hoses.
That's not just stupidity, but criminal damages.
Replayed it, & it was the owner who did the work!
That's like cutting off your finger because you have a splinter! 😀
@@cpufrost more like cutting off that finger's middle bone even though the splinter sits under the fingernail...
What are the probabilities the owner works for the U.S. Government or is a grade school teacher?
@@opendstudio7141 I dunno. sounds like a cliche that wants to be fulfilled... XD
grade school teacher working for the gov'ment?
That gorgeous VW was quite the palate cleanser. Getting harder and harder to find them in such good shape now the wrecker spares are slowly drying up.
Being rear engine rwd they got converted into trikes.
In Finland they were the de facto cars of the demolition rally.
They are beatiful. My 8th grade guidence councilor and his son had a hobby of fixing up old beetles.
I think I actually drooled.
yes, beetles converted to 12v in '67.....but that was a '65.....so It needs the conversion.
@@donm.4504 i'm glad you can understand english?
That WAS my favorite!!
2:33 Sounds like me during an asthma attack. LOL
I was born in 1965. That VW looks a whole lot better than I do.
😆 sounds like me walking up stairs. Long story lol
I was born in 1949 ..... now, if I could just find a hoopty.
'66 here. I make my peers feel old by pointing out that the '80s music we grew up with is now older than the Oldies music we listened to back then ie Men Without Hats is older now than the Beatles were back then.
I rolled out of the factory in '66. Unfortunately I've developed the distinct roundness of a vintage VW.
My father is 61 and we watch these videos together.
ooooooh that beetle is soooooo beautiful. its refreshing to see a vehicle that is well loved after some of the horror shows of the previous minutes.
The original beetle does it for me every time. It's such a timeless design.
I sometimes wish these videos were longer than 3 minutes BUT that would mean there are even more faulty vehicles driving around than I'd ever like to realise.
What can someone do to make an engine be quiet for sale before knocking like that truck knocked after the sale?🤔
Just Rolled In never disappoints.😂
Maybe some very thick grease in the engine ?
Sounds like a diesel. I think an injector stuck or the tip broke and is puking fuel into a cylinder.
What volvo09 said. Thats my guess as well. Tech didn't mention the actual fault though
Don't put gasoline in the diesel truck you just bought.
@@volvo09 I think it is a leaking or cracked injector as well, probably ran fine when they bought it
As a tire technician for big rigs that recap about to blow sends chills down my spine. Better let that air out fast!
Found this channel about two weeks ago and have been binge watching the vids. With every video I am more appreciative of the mandatory 6/12 month vehicle inspections in my country.
Appreciate you being here! Where are you from?
Yeah, it’s crazy. Only 15 States in the U.S. have annual or biennial mandatory inspections.
I also discovered this channel only some days ago. I live in germany. Cars and bikes must get a technical checkup at least every two years. Trucks and busses need this check every year. If you fail, you are not allowed to drive the failed vehicle on public roads. I am so glad we have this rules.
A lot of the shown cars are so dangerous for everyone inside and around it.
UK viewer here. We have yearly safety inspections for all cars over 3 years old. Mind you, I'm sure that plenty can go wrong in the next eleven months.
From France. Inspection is mandatory every 2 years if i remember correctly cause i don t own a car for some years now.
Nice channel. no pub, no silly music, no bla bla.
He cut the frame. He cut a freaking FRAME!
This is just something…
Yea that one was something else 😆
Someone that stupid should not be allowed to drive. I'm being dead serious. He can't make half decent decisions when it's not a high stress situation, how bad is it going to be when some little kid runs out in front of his car chasing after their ball? The guy will probably hit the gas instead of the brake and blame it on the car manufacture. Take his license away now!
@@JustRolledIn Well, you know the factory overdesigns everything so a little piece can't hurt, right?
@@haroldwilkes6608 😆
I've seen cars with circular cutouts in the middle of the frame to lighten weight. But they were used almost exclusively for drag racing. Hacking one, especially the way it was done, to install power steering? No.
2:10- Yeah, they're out of business. Halleluiah!!!
2:44 always nice to see cars that have actually had some care and attention put into them. Doesn’t matter what car.
I did a 12v conversion on a 1960 Bug years ago. Fun part was burning out the 6v bulbs at dusk as flash bulbs
That bug then was the worlds biggest fire fly.
@@SirDeanosity we call them “lightnin’ bugs” out here
1967. First year for 12V. Last year for 5 lug rims. Do not know current price for that year "W" deck lid. But it was pricy when I went through my VW phase 30 years ago.
@@masonjarhillbilly 67 is a one year decklid. They’ve always been salty. W decklids were from the fifties.
I always liked VWs in a campy way until my dad had a VW dune buggy racing team. After the league folded is when he said I became “interesting”… meaning I became car obsessed and spent most of my time in the garage with him. We’d restore beetles and run them around town with the race engines until we got bored, pulled the motor and got the next project. 200hp doesn’t seem like much until you realize these cars were under 2k lbs, and the swing arm cars had great gearing. That 60 bug had a 4.64:1 ring and pinion with very close ratio gears. At 8k rpm it’d run all of 70 mph but got there in a hurry. Dusted more than a few Mustang GTs in my neighborhood.
Oh, and it had a Kennedy solid disc clutch and no seatbelts. So downshifting, your chin was trying to contact the dash pad. Damn, the 90s were fun
I converted my 66 Type 34 Karmann-Ghia to 12v, but kept the original 6v cigarette lighter. Man, that thing heated up FAST!!!
The Beetle at the end is awesome 👍
Another one for the books although i have seen a few of these roll in to our shop . The shock being replaced with a bar is not the worse idea if the actual shock is broken in two pieces and you are stuck although it does have torsion bar suspension , might be alittle bouncy with out it. Let some of the air out of your tire and drive slow . Was working on a Buick Enclave today with both front struts seized solid , common problem on these vehicles and it drove like a pogo stick just like this truck would aggravated by the fact it was only one side . Plus looks like an angry exgirlfriend loves O Henry bars . lol ..
2:39 that would be an Opel Corsa gen.4 (D) for the broken glovebox clip... I own one (funnily also a metal grey with the exact same black and white seats, but with full black autoradio and central console plastics).
They aren't so bad cars overall but have a few irritating issues, such as the heater blower resistor frying or its connector being dodgy (when not burning its pins out), which causes the cabin fan/AC to lose all speeds except the last (full) one... ^^
Misaligned glovebox doors are a common thing on those, they often don't fit the dashboard properly even with the glovebox unit correctly screwed in place. First time I've seen one broken clean off like that though xD
That brake hose repair, Just wow ! Thank you for sharing these. All my best.
yeah..how much pressure do they think is in a brake line?? That fix is more for an ice-maker in a fridge.
Just rolled in myself!

Always that one guy that won't / can't use an exhaust hose in the shop. At least it was warm enough for the doors to be up.
That would be brutal to run in the shop with the doors down 😅
FireoftheGreeks, remember, safety last!
Those V-Dub Beetles were too cool - think Briggs and Stratton style motor in a car that will sort of float...
I actually had that glovebox issue happen just recently. I fixed it with two small hinges on the lower edge. Works nice now.
Mine still has that problem now. I just don't use it but sometimes forget Doh!
Home Depot to the rescue! You save yourself hundreds, I suppose ;-)
Blows my mind how people with way more money than me can afford nice vehicles and destroy them via neglect. I have a 2003 F150 with the "cursed" 4.2l V6 that I bought new and the worst I've had to do so far is two fuel pumps a water pump and the alternator. Still looks good and only has 215k on the clock. I break a cold sweat if I go 20 miles past the 3000-mile oil change interval (I do my own with Motorcraft filter and oil) and it get's an open hood look around once a week. Funny how a little maintenance works. It could be the way I take care of the truck or it could be they knew how to build them in Windsor back then.
Modern oils have a "break in" time which is around 1000-2000km (600-1300mi). No oil today is being made for 3000 mile change interval, so you're probably pouring out perfectly good engine oil. 10K km (6k mi) is a sweet spot where the oil is past its peak performance but it's not dangerously worn out. Of course, none of this is true if you're using 100% mineral oil, I'm talking about semi or full synthetic.
I've got a 2007 mustang myself, last owner treated it like shit as far as I can tell, and I bought it on a whim just so I could finally have my own car. I've replaced the lifters, rocker arms, control arms, the entire brake system, thermostat housing, and seats all on my own with my dad, and am about to replace the rad to fix a huge crack along the side, but she's taken me over 30k miles, on a trip from Cali to idaho and back, and still going strong without a single breakdown after owning her for about 2 years and 162k miles on the odometer.
@@RB-gv5xh "No oil today is being made for 3k mile oil change" .. What? The older engines still have their old maintenance schedules no matter what. All it takes is looking up the literal info he wrote to find that the F150s of that era has an interval of 3000 miles if towing, hauling, going off-road, driving in the city etc...
@@amorag59 Just because you're running an old school engine does not mean oil will degrade in 3000 miles. Modern oils can take a LOT of abuse, especially synthetic.
@@RB-gv5xh If you're only considering oil degradation then that's part of the problem.. Some engines were just designed with a 3k change interval in mind: loose tolerances, small holes in the oil galleys for things like lash adjusters to get clogged.. no matter what oil is used. You up and blasted the guy for a 3k mile oil change out of the blue w/o a spec of research on the matter lol.
i know these videos are largely meant for fun, but they're so, SO incredibly educational as well
1:18 For 20 bucks, it got them home😂

I always look forward to the last clip to see the lovely old cars, that Beetle was awesome, gorgeous!!
Damn that beetle looked clean AF

Nice little bug. We had a super beetle when I was younger. We ended up moving and had a friend pack items into it. We were still finding things that she packed into it a a month later after we finished moving. I hope we found everything before we sold it.

always "fun" as a tech when you drive a car in, get it up on the lift, and find out that it is horribly, dangerously broken, and that you DROVE it.
In Ireland you have to get your car fully checked out by state-sponsored mechanics on a yearly basis to make sure it's roadworthy; if the NCT don't sign off every year you can be fined, penalised, or have the car confiscated.
I've always thought it was a total dose, but seeing the state of some of the cars on this channel is showing me the merits of that system.
Every time i see one of these i am just grateful that the TÜV ensures that all vehicles are save to drive.
And that TÜV inspections are mandatory in my country.

I spend most of time shaking my head with my mouth agape on these videos, then at the end see the classics like that bug and all is right with the world.
The last clip with the VW Bug is 👍👍👍👍, that owner takes care of his Bug. The other ones are scary.
I once had a balljoint fall out like that,, on my racecar! Car felt a little strange and with very short and stiff front springs the ball joint that is supposed to be knurled to retain it fell out. I tacked them in after that. Aftermarket parts that were not correct for the job. Part of the problem was they had less angle, the reason it pushed out.
Early 12V vobble Wagens were little better than 6 volt ones. Still had slow cranking and lousy lights!
Dad always used the 6v starter on his 12v converted vw's, they still lasted for a long time as it spun alot faster they didnt need to be cranked for as long, also you can get halogen bulbs to suit the vw headlight bulb socket, which interestingly, is the same light globe socket as a 1983 subaru rex/sherpa kei car when i had the sherpa dad gave me one globe from his kombi to try, it fit, so i went and bought some halogens at the parts store, big difference
1967 had one year only parts in the steering column relating to the ignition system if I recall correctly.
Yes. Back when VW Beetles were common, you could always tell immediately if one was coming toward you at night - always one headlight real dim.
VW's were such crud cars. They always popped and banged going down hills because the engines ran too hot, causing burnt exhaust valves, which caused misfiring on closed throttle - and thus unburnt gasoline/air mix pumped into the muffler, periodically exploding.
VW flat four engines were not too bad in Beetles (except for the rough sound), but were never designed for anything heavier. They put them in Combi vans anyway. A company I worked for bought a fleet of Combis one year. I remember discussing a problem with a mechanic, and they had a whole lot of Combi engines - with their cylinder heads removed - lined up all along a wall - seriously overheated every one - ruined valves and pistons.
Those Germans knew about quality - when they wanted to do things right, it was very right, eg Fintail Mercedes. And when they wanted to make crud, it certainly WAS crud, eg VW Combis.
The clip for that beautiful Volkswagen came up, and I could smell the interior.
On a lighter note, that VW at the end looked CLEAN. Not a big Beetle fan but that's a cherry one for sure.
3:05 [discount Darth Vader noises]
