love the content man
doug demuro
it's a very beautyful ford tauros car 🚘🚗👍👍🌜😇
They are nice until the water pump goes out.
Gorgeous car
Mad respect to how well this SHO has been taken care of
It’s likely been detailed because they’re prepping it for sale
lol look @ the cars and bids posting of it, it has a lot of cosmetic damage.
@@jwinklzcosmetic damage sucks but mechanical damage is way worse
also I'm surprised of how the massaging seat feature went on this car
The 3.5 is solid if you change the oil every 5k
one of the most criminally underrated wonderful daily driver... My brother had one with the naturally aspirated v6 and that car was so comfortable to drive daily and the steering was sharp and the car felt well connected and well put together.
But those N/A versions are slooow. These with the twin turbos just love to fly
@@BlueOvals24 to workshop
lol@@tesla_models
Right, the V6 if these move nicely and get a magnaflow on the exhaust and it'll sound like a mustang
@@Runbow twin turbos cost a lot of damage to the ownership
I’m considerably older than Topher and a LOT older than Substitute Topher, and I remember when the 1989 SHO came out and thought that was the coolest car ever. Glad Ford made this one also. Thanks for sharing a part of your family history with us.
Who is substitute topher and how old is he? 🤔
@@mikehawk6175 He subs for Topher once in a while and does work on Topher’s Winding Road Channel. Also has his own channel DrivingTopher. And judging from his picture he looks like he’s in his twenties. Unless he’s old AF and just looks fantastic!
This car is my dream daily and I was finally able to purchase my 2016 SHO in December. I must say, every day I’m just as excited to drive it as the day I brought it home. Everything one could want in a sleeper wrapped up into one beautiful package. Nice work on this review! 👌🏻
It's a great car, had a '14 a while back and it was a blast. That said, I feel like the '20 Outback XT I have now is the ultimate sleeper. Can pull the same 0-60 as the SHO, but also has more cargo space and can go offroad. Plus it just really surprises people when they see a crossover/wagon accelerate faster than an Ecoboost Mustang.
@@BlueOvals24ain't the subaru a whole second slower 0 to 60? Like 6 second verse 5 seconds in the taurus?
It is surprising though when it's a larger crossover with a flat 4 and the taurus is smaller but weighs more but also have a twin turbo v6 with a whole liter more displacement
@@nativeoutdoors1780 I think that's the 3.6R you're thinking about. People have gotten the FA24 models in the 5's. Really need ideal conditions and maybe a higher octane tune, but it's been done. The big kicker is the turbo lag. The twin turbos in the Taurus make turbo lag almost nonexistent. But with the Outback, you spend a good second waiting for that turbo to spool. No doubt it would be in the lower 5 seconds with some anti lag device. Would also help if they used a traditional auto with dual clutches rather than a CVT.
I just like it because it's basically the WRX hatch we're being denied, just a bit heavier and no manual option. Not gonna lie though, if I had the money I would've gone for the Explorer ST, those things are crazy quick!
@@BlueOvals24 those things look sweet too, looks like a police officer so at night people gonna behave around you too haha
Yeah I can see the single turbo being that way, turbo lag is fun though, nothing and then just space ship rockets you to the moon haha
Id love a wrx wagon in the manual, like the 2007 model year ones are beautiful but rare to find unmolested with silly tunes and mods.
@nativeoutdoors1780 I saw an 04 STI yesterday, sadly they let the paint go. And it was the iconic blue as well. The Police Explorers with the ttv6 are scary, wouldn't want to be chased by one of them.
The sony sound system in fords from this era is killer! The noise isolation is so incredible in these cars that if you talk too loud you'll hurt your own ears
Yes. My Apple Watch gives me the 'yellow ear" warning me of a loud environment when I play music. 200 watts was the thing in the 80's when I was in high school and my SHO(which likely over doubles that) cranks the tunes hard without distortion.
My wife's step dad always wanted this car but couldn't afford it. He died a few years ago of brain cancer at 55. I really wish he got to drive one of these before he passed. Miss you Corry
Sorry for your loss, he must have been a good person if he made an impact on your life.
The sad part is this gen Taurus is the use of space was pretty bad - for a large sedan, the interior room was far smaller than Charger & Impala; in fact, not significantly bigger than the Fusion it sold beside. The SHO 3.5 Ecoboost twin turbo is pretty cool, but the same engine in the Explorer already is infamous for its water pump issue. With the same money, the Fusion Sport with the 2.7 Ecoboost is probably the sportier car for less money.
Yeah, christ, this thing was 203 inches long and the backseats look much smaller than an Accord's despite being 9 inches longer than it.
@@bemoremad Almost as long as my 2016 F150 lol
The visibility is also horrendous in them. Somewhat similar to a Camaro. It feels like you’re sitting in a bunker.
Not to mention the Fusion sport has the CCD suspension from the mkz, which provides a very comfortable ride over the SHO
@Jonathan-mp7xg 2nd gen, but only the sport trim has the CCD
Finally!! Someone puts out a good review of this sleeper. I drive a 15 Lincoln MKS Ecoboost which is the SHO in a "fancy" suit. I've been in a NA Taurus and can say that the Lincoln seems to ride just smidge better than its blue oval counterpart. Lincoln discontinued the MKS after the '16 model year unfortunately. Poor sales, lack of brand awareness, etc. The upside is if you can find an Ecoboost MKS they tend to go cheaper than the SHO. Livernois offers tune packages for the SHO (and MKS) to boost the 3.5L to 400+HP. Both cars can give the Audi A8s (of the time) a good run for their money. Its a real shame that Ford discontinued the Taurus platform altogether. Frankly, I think if the interior got a redesign/ new infotainment system to match modern cars, they would do really well.
P.S. the camera doesn't do a good job at showing you how MASSIVE the trunk space is. Yes if you have a lot of "cleaning up" you can store most of them in the trunk. 😉
This and the fusion sport were both great. It’s a shame ford completely gave up on sedans
The reason is: SUVS, SUVS, SUVS...
I own a 2014 Taurus SHO with exactly the same options as this car, including color and wheels (2016 offered the much better SYNC3 infotainment system) and I am very happy with this car. I bought it with 22k miles in 2017 and currently have 90k miles. It drives like it did when I bought it, and has been well maintained ever since. You will have to do Ford required services to keep it fresh, but these are nothing in comparison to a German sports sedan. Even though this car has "Ecoboost" on the trunk, it is not an MPG leader by any measure (a tune may help, and improve HP and torque). The 3.5TT engine was designed to meet or exceed V8 power and torque while getting slightly better fuel economy. It's more about smiles per gallon versus miles per gallon, and this car delivers the smiles. Get on the throttle and this car will get out of its own way very quickly, and probably beat a Challenger 5.7 Hemi in the process. And it will do really well in the snow, unlike said Challenger. I am currently having body repair on mine and have a 2022 Toyota Corolla as a rental, and I will tell you that driving the rental is like drinking a Coors Light versus a good craft IPA. And the road noise is so bad that you have to practically shout to talk to passengers. Neutered at birth. Please take a hard look at this car on Cars and Bids; it is a true cream puff with ultra low mileage. Interior trimmings are not a sea of hard black plastic like most cars these days; most everything you touch is soft and nice. This is pretty much (mechanically) the same as a Taurus Police Interceptor and our law enforcement beats the crap out of these things, and they come back swinging. Give this car a bid and enjoy the last performance sedan that Ford ever made.
What mpg do you see with the sho? I want one as a more fuel efficient transportation, my trucks only get 8 to 10 city and maybe 13 14 highway going 65 so it doesn't take much to beat those numbers but I want something getting closer to mid 20s or higher
Well friend, you are NOT going to get close to the mid 20's in a SHO. I might get 20mpg in my car during mostly freeway driving. Since I posted this comment, like right afterwards, I threw an engine code in this car and will likely be replacing a timing chain (and probably other things). Not a cheap repair by any measure. And not really rare for a car with variable valve timing and nearing 100k miles. It still drives perfectly. But she is still my baby and I plan on keeping her. And hopefully get at least another 90k.@@nativeoutdoors1780
I discovered a dealer online that sells former police Taurus’. I can’t wait to get one. I don’t think they have SHO but at least they have nice PIs
@@Zambineaux305 Just make sure you get one with the 3.5L Ecoboost. Much the same mechanically but with upgraded components to withstand the daily abuse that PI's get.
My old man had a 2012 SHO in red. It was great. Though it wasn’t sync3, I think I prefer its interior to the facelift: the suede inserts in leather seats were sportier, the analog tach, and buttons instead of the haptics for the climate.
He replaced it with a Lincoln continental he still drives today, with the 400hp EB. I think that is FoMoCo’s final, peak sedan. The badge is less of a sleeper, but no one expects the power
My dad had V8 SHOW, must have been the late 90's. I loved that thing
Oh yeah I forgot about that version. Crazy. V8 Taurus. Stock
@rowsdower12 too bad the engine was notoriously terrible
@@ChodeTheToad oh okay. Yeah not very known. Do you know the engine they used for that one? Very unreliable huh?
@rowsdower12 It was a Yamaha V8. 235hp not super impressive even for the year. I recall listening to some other videos discussing the car and its many issues related to the motor among other problems. I still thought it was awesome when I was a kid.
@@ChodeTheToad I knew the V6 was Yamaha but didn't know the V8 was. Interesting. Oh yeah as a kid you're not thinking like adults and just enjoy what should be enjoyed. Cool, thanks for the info!
Just because it's old doesn't mean it's not good. Classics forever!!!! 😊
just got one yesterday! best sleeper family car ever!
Had the absolute pleasure of drivin one last year. Absolute street beast. Highway pulls were so much fun
I always thought these were good looking cars. It's amazing how new-like that car is. Definitely a cool ride. It's a shame Ford quit making cars like this.
@Brian_Eugene_Leewith forscan I think you can change it
I’ll never forget when my buddy would sometimes take us to the gym in his dads when we were in highschool, this car really did give you that head rush from a launch and was very luxurious with message seats and the rear window visors and good sound system. Very cool car
Had one of these. Sold it and bought a Golf R. Thinking of selling the Golf and going back to one of these. Loved it.
Did you get a water pump issue??
@@Zambineaux305 on the SHO, no. The power steering went out after I sold it apparently. But the car gave me no issues.
@@lucasmynatt415 I looked it up. An article from Dearborn, Michigan says the 2011-2013 models had recalls regarding said power steering issues. That’s pretty scary. I still want one, preferably a 17-19. They gotta be very reliable cars. I live in Miami-Dade County and many police departments still use them.
@@Zambineaux305 yeah the guy that bought it said the power steering cost him around 3k to get it replaced. It was a great car. Big and comfy. Though the interior was kind of tight for how big it is.
Get you one man. They’re beautiful cars.
I used to have one of these. Mine was tuned from 9psi boost stock to 15psi so it was probably making 375-ish at the wheels. Not a bad grocery getter.
My grandfather had a Lincoln MKS with the 3.5. I remember when the first time I rode in it and he floored it. It moves! Such a fun car
Now imagine a twin turbo in it, that’s the sho.
@@timothylockett7201MKS is the sho just as a Lincoln
Wouldn't get rhe twin turbo ..I'll get the naturally aspirated
@@timothylockett7201mks ecoboost is a luxury Taurus Sho lol same exact engine and drive train 3.5 ecoboost.
Amazing overall design. Ford/SHO knocked that version out of the park imo.
I love the placement of the trunk release... I cannot count the number of times where I've wanted to open the trunk as a passenger while the driver is going down the highway...........
These are severely underrated. Everyone wants a mustang charger or challenger or a corvette, or even an M5. But these have always been sweeped under the radar. You dont really see a whole lot of them on the road. This car and the chevy SS are both underrated and rare to see
Just bought a 2011 Red Taurus SHO with blown turbos for $3200 bucks and I looked for a review video from the topher Chanel! Funny it pops up now! Lol
Gorgeous spec. I always respected these SHOs.
I have a 2016 Taurus SHO, bought her last October with 72k miles. We now sit at 89k, and it’s hands down an AMAZING car. Quick, handles great, and super slick.
How many miles is it pushing now and how is the performance??
@@Zambineaux305 I sold her in May, as I ordered a new car. She had 98k roughly on her and ran and performed just as good as she did at 72k. Slight timing rattle at startup however and PTU started to go, also started rusting so it was time for an upgrade.
My dad had one. It really was a solid car.
Great review: I find myself liking these more after seeing this. I had a 1990 SHO. It was a great car until about 100k miles.
man its this one dude that pass by my house every day with an all blacked out one on 20s lowered and with a decent exhaust
It's crazy that the current Ford Edge still uses that gauge cluster.
Was thinking about this car yesterday and boom heres a new vid on it! Gotta love it
I had a 2013 of these and it was my favorite car ever. Im getting another one once my warranty on my Mazda 3 expires
loved the HELL out of my 2013 SHO. 412 whp and 450 lbs of tq. thing was a blast man
What tunes?
gearhead and ortiz. ortiz tuning was the race tune@@jessehirsch8048
16:48 I’m just gonna say the bumps on the road go perfectly with the timing in the song here, that is all😂
My parents own a Ford Expedition from this same year. Weighs a shit ton, but the TTV6 made that giant brick move, drives like a dream for being so huge. I'd kill to be able to drive one of these and see how well that engine pushes in something with less weight
I have a 2015 Ford Expedition and it hauls ass
Crazy how I was thinking about getting one and now I start seeing videos
Ive been wanting this car for 3 years now but life gas heen lifeing so i hope to start saving for my own in juts about a year. Great video man its nice to have a refresher becuase ive pretty much watched all the POV and reviews on the car
This guy is having so much fun driving this thing. Makes me want one
I have 2011 Taurus 206k miles original motor and trans never needed servicing just regular oil changed brakes etc. That 3.5 is lovely this car still outshines many cars at the dealership.
Did the water pump ever give you any problems??
The first car I ever bought was a used 2010 SHO in 2013. At 19 years old. My mind was absolutely blown at how great this car was.
TheTopher makes the best videos ever :)
Yay, uterus steering wheel is now popular! The Taurus and Fusion were both really good as common cars, with the exception of not so great gas mileage of the ecoboost engines.
The Ford starter and chime is like a core memory in my head now
My '14 was a ton of fun. Grab a Gearhead tune for $700 and you'll wake it up quick. Great cars until the chain driven water pump dies, sometimes suddenly and without warning. The other big issue is the PTU (transfer case) which was initially advertised by Ford as lubed-for-life before they found out that its close proximity to the exhaust manifold was cooking the gear oil and causing it to pressure vent out of the top; this would leave the PTU with no oil and metal on metal contact until it eventually had a catastrophic failure. If in the market for one, try to find one with the factory Performance Pack which has sportier steering calibration, revised shock absorbers, engine cooling shared with the Police Interceptor, 3.16:1 gearing, and an external cooler for the PTU.
I have a 2013 sho and it’s hard to resist cutting up in traffic lol
Edit: 18:33 aye but he gave it some sauce
18:30 wow!!! The sweet note, for sure! I’ll have to try it on my SHO.
Delightful drive!!!! Love me some classics!!! Just because it's only doesn't mean it's not good. 😊
Just recently sold my 2016 Ford Edge Sport, what an amazing and practical SUV, greatly equipped and engine performed great, sadly one has to move on, the feeling of selling a beloved car sucks!
Sometimes I think that's a perfect car for ever 🎉
I'm not a big Ford fan, but I do appreciate seeing SHOs.
Dammit substitute Topher, now I'm seriously lusting after this car.
Bubba would be proud of this review ❤
I like my '15 Taurus SE. I wish I had the limited though and aftermarket radio support.
great car. i live in canton so im right by you guys. transmission just went on my fusion i just bought in february. wish i had 20k to grab this beauty 😭
You can open the trunk from the outside. The button is above the license plate. You cant see it standing behind the car but if you feel around above the license plate youll find the button.
I have had my fully loaded 2013 Taurus SHO Performance Package for a year now and it feels like I've had it for so much longer. The car feels like home, bought it for 10k, and while it has given me a couple issues that were easily addressed, it is my favorite car I have ever owned. It is sitting at 151,000 miles and I have changed every fluid except the rear differential fluid. The interior has the suede inserts, and looks to be in identical if not newer condition than the SHO in this video. I love the feeling of effortless power on demand with these sedans and the tuning aftermarket is massive, but for anyone looking to purchase one high mileage or not, make sure that you are at least a little handy with working on vehicles yourself. I have worked as an interior detailer and a mechanic in my life so keeping up the SHO has been relatively easy. Other than fluids, I have changed its tires, rear wheel bearings, brake pads and rotors, puddle lights, and tightening and cleaning of other trim pieces. Looking to get a gearhead tune down the line to really spice it up. Lastly, if you're looking for high mileage SHOs, make 100% sure that they are performance package equipped. The secondary oil cooler, transmission cooler, and PTU cooler actually work unlike what some forum-goers say. When I changed my ptu fluid it wasn't in nearly as bad condition as I was expecting.
I wish that Ford could bring back the Taurus, the Fusion, and the Focas
Almost bought a 2016 SHO in copper/brown metallic last year after test driving it. Interior and the screen were nice good quality and it was quite fast. But man, I think even the Sentra has more rear legroom.
hey, to stop the honking when you have the key fob on you, all you gotta do is hold your key fob close to your front window, then close your door and it won't honk, I own a 2018 ford explorer and it works well for that, it'll work on all fords
Beautiful SHO. It’s sad they Ford no longer makes these; I loved this body style.
I always thought these were so
Cool!
good video to start the morning with
My mom used to have this exact car I really miss it. Had it for 3 years.
I’m not a big fan of modern Fords, but I’ve always liked the Taurus SHO. In general, I think Ford has the most comfortable steering wheels of any mainstream brand.
My Brother has the 2011 Limited with over 200k miles and we absolutely love it
Finally something actually interesting
I love my 2014 SHO. In Sport it becomes an even more responsive vehicle. Better steering and throttle response. It’s a fun car to drive.
He is in sport
Clean and taken care of SHO, so worth it
It’s in such good shape!!!
That thing is absolutely beautiful
i love my SHO its livernois tuned and its also blue a great example of a sleeper car
You forgot that up until this year this motor was in the Raptor...
Someone was tracking one of these at VIR with a set of grippy tires etc. It was far faster than it has any right to be.
It's basically the sedan version of Ford GT.
What a nice all around daily with lots of power haha
One of the best cars of Ford
This thing should go on cars&bids
Ow… it is, i kid you not I didn’t know it was on cars&bids😂
So I had bought my 2018 Ford SHO with close to 76,000 miles from carmax for close to 31,000$ Includes the Carmax care. (Up to 160,000 miles or 4 years which ever comes first) Haven’t hit a month with the car and it’s already at Carmax getting its transfer case replaced. Every time I would pull out of my drive way I would spot a leak. I thought it was maybe the A/C and so did my dad. Turns out it was the transfer case leaking it’s fluids. Boy does the car accelerate fast. But maybe I got the car a little defective or I need to stop accelerating hard lol. Either way thanks for the Carmax care if not I’d be wasting money on repairs. Keep y’all updated. Using a retail 2020 Honda Accord while waiting for my baby to get repaired. Let’s just say. Saving quite a bit on gas money right now🥴
Best thing about the Taurus was the hidden trunk button above the license plate!
What alot of people might be surprised to know is ford made the sho almost as quick as a same year mustang gt! Lol!
That actually makes a bunch of power, must be a very fun family car.
That color combination is fantastic
Ford doesn't scratch my itch unless it's an RS (made in germany), but touche. I can appreciate a car.
Friend of mine has one of these and when I had my 2012 Infiniti M56X, he couldn't keep up. You'll see these on the road often, but you will never see another Infiniti M56 or even a Q70 with the 5.6 V8.
It should be able to keep up...
I have an M35..The M56 for the next generation is definitely a sleeper. Most people don't even know it exists.
Same with the FX50
Ford did make a Fusion ST after they discontinued the Taurus if I remember correctly, so the Taurus SHO actually wasn't the last sport sedan they made.
No they made the fusion sport and the last one was 2019. not st
I’m thinking of buying a 2019 SHO, watching this review of a 2016 makes me think the 2019 will be even better! I had a 2011 Taurus limited for a long time. Looking to get back into it. Great reliable car if you take care of it.
Where would be the best places to look for one??
Ford is suffering by just having one car, the Mustang. I've bought six brand new Ford sedans in the past, and they have permanently lost my future business. I am just not an SUV fan.
Neither am I, brother. Ever since many sedans were discontinued.
seeing you do these videos on the same roads i drive on is cool
I always look out for these! Very nice cars!
This is what interiors used to look like before everyone started gluing tablets to their dashboards
That SHO is squeaky clean
He may want to change the coolant to the new yellow motor craft coolant. The orange that they used has issues with corrosion on the water pumps. I just changed it on my parents 2016 and pretty easy.
Damn im literally looking to buy one of these and this guy makes a video on it GOT DAMN LOL
I have the exact same car but a 2015 with 43k miles. Still runs great. I’m putting a Gearhead tune on mine.
Imagine buying an SHO, throwing the PPV wheels and chrome hubcaps on it😂
I love mine. A tune is definitely needed to wake it up and reliability isn't the best, but for being the first car I'd actually purchased as an adult I'm satisfied with most of what it has to offer (Except for the sound system, the Sony sound system was terrible imho). Almost 40k miles put on since I've gotten mine.
My pops had one… loved it.
Always wanted this car. Only recall I believe are the early 2010-13 for the electronic power steering but other than that, good car but make sure you do your maintenance. Ecoboost engines need to be babied
Had one for a couple years. Sadly it was a '14 with the terrible older version of Sync. Also had one of the turbos break on me. Moved on to a different sleeper, '20 Outback XT. It falls into the same 5 1/2-6 second 0-60 range, while also having more ground clearance and can go offroad a bit. Still miss the SHO when I occasionally see one out on the road.
