  • Varicose veins are swollen, twisted veins that often appear blue or dark purple and are commonly found in the legs. They occur when the valves within the veins weaken or fail to function properly, causing blood to pool and the veins to become enlarged. Varicose veins can cause symptoms such as aching, heaviness, itching, and swelling in the legs.
Vascular surgeons offer several treatments to help cure varicose veins:
    1. Endovenous Ablation: This minimally invasive procedure involves using heat (radiofrequency or laser energy) to seal off and collapse the affected vein. Once closed, blood is rerouted to healthier veins, and the varicose vein eventually fades away.
    2. Sclerotherapy: Vascular surgeons inject a solution directly into the varicose vein, causing it to collapse and gradually disappear over time. This treatment is particularly effective for smaller varicose veins and spider veins.
    3. Ambulatory Phlebectomy: In this outpatient procedure, vascular surgeons make small incisions near the varicose vein and remove it through tiny hooks or needles. Ambulatory phlebectomy is often used for larger varicose veins close to the surface of the skin.
    4. Lifestyle Modifications: Vascular surgeons may recommend lifestyle changes such as regular exercise, elevation of the legs, wearing compression stockings, and avoiding prolonged periods of sitting or standing to alleviate symptoms and prevent the recurrence of varicose veins.
By offering a range of effective treatments, vascular surgeons help patients manage varicose veins and improve their quality of life. Early intervention and a personalized treatment plan can address varicose veins effectively and prevent potential complications.
