Count Orlok was just about the best part of the film. Everything about their interpretation seemed fresh, scary, and reasonably faithful to the source material. Bill Skarsgaard was impressive, and unrecognizable. (I wish I could say the same for the rest of the cast… whose scenes were often tedious to sit through).

I honestly cannot wait for this movie. The lack of appearance reminds me of Nicholas Cage on the lead up to Longlegs and them choosing to not show him. It is a good marketing strategy, that I hope more directors choose to do.

Totally agree. The biggest mistakes that horror trailers make these days is either show the whole movie in 2 minuets or less, or the monster / creature is revealed. The decision to keep Bill Skarsgård as Count Orlok hidden or remain in the shadows is perfect. All this does is make the viewer eager to see the film even more.

Absolutly...normaly its a crime on movies to watch the trailer and have the suspense...but sometimes im not strong enough. We shoudnt wonder when we found the movie bad after watching.

The late snooker legend , Willie Thorne was used as Count Orlok after Robert Eggers saw Thorne performing trick shots at Butlins in Minehead in 1993. Such was his horror at Thorne's appearance and demeanor that a young Eggers vowed to make a film about his life.

  • @bluesentaiproductions

I think Eggers was merely adapting the description of Dracula Stoker relays when Harker first meets him at the castle. Obviously, Nosferatu is Dracula, no way around it. So between the Herzog adaption, and this current one there's stronger attempts to go back to the novel, and create something that feels closest to the novel while also maintaing some of the changes the silent film had made. On the other hand, since all adaptations of Nosferatu are set before the events of Dracula, you can just surmise this is the same demon, changing its name and appearance throughout time. Seemingly being vanquished only to return

You really do have to do something different here. The idea of him just pretending to be alive has always been a part of the appeal of Orlock, but him still trying to maintain his facial hair and clothes is so human

@@JB-gt5no We can all wonder. The BBC / Netflix Dracula series kinda of touched upon this topic. When we first see Dracula he's an old man who speaks in a Romanian accent. SPOILERS AHEAD! The more blood Dracula consumes from Johnathan Harker not only does the Count become younger but his accent changes too. He begins to talk with a British accent. They also touched up on this in episode 2. When Dracula is aboard The Demeter, he's speaking to a German woman and says "Forgive me. My German is very rusty. Would you excuse me for a moment?" He then kills a crew member of the Demeter and when he returns to have a conversation with the woman he's speaking German.
