- Here is what is likely the cause of your 2021-newer Tahoe, Suburban or Yukon water leak from the overhead console/Onstar button area, and what should be done to fix it.
Update: Here is a TSB that discusses this leak and what to do about it. Which is pretty much what I say needs to be done, lol.

Hi and thanks for sharing this, i had the same problem on my Tahoe 2021, it was leaking very bad, i sent this video to my service dealer, However they didn't verify it. I got my car back after 2 weeks and they said there were no leaking and that there were no reporting issues about this. As soon as got home I applied water with a hose for a couple of minutes in the area you mentioned and the car was leaking badly, I recorded this on video and showed to them. a total of 5 weeks on service and $1000 to get this solved. If it was no for this video maybe nobody would take care of this issue and wouldn't know where was the problem.

Thank you for your video.. I have a 2023 Tahoe that has been sitting for two weeks outside with 2 inches of snow on it… I warmed up my Tahoe and water started dumping out the on Star button. I was thinking WTF…. The vehicle only has 3k miles on it… so pissed….
I have a 2023 Tahoe that is leaking from the roof at the rare most seatbelt outlet. Just took it to the dealer this morning. 🤞🏽
There is now a service bulletin on this. It tells you you probably have to remove the windshield to seal it. Hopefully they will know about that

@@baret32 Now rear-most seatbelt...that one isn't the windshield removal one, that one is usually one of the rear sunroof drains blocked by sound deadener. That is also covered in the TSB, which I have put in my description and also in a reply to you.
My 2015 Tahoe is leaking from the a pillar. I’ve already gotten the windshield resealed and checked the shark fin antenna. Also checked the sunroof drains . What could it possible be ?
Assuming all of those attempted fixes were actually successful and those things aren't actually the problem, the glass itself could leak. It would not leak where the sunroof drains would catch it it would be leaking in the track part itself and would still come out at the a pillar. That's rare but it does happen
Thanks a lot for sharing this valuable video with us. I just hit the same issue with my Tahoe 2023 LS model which does not have the sunroof. The dealership told me that we tested by putting water for good two hours, they even opened up the console and said they dont see anything and no leak at all. I am unlucky that it happened on Saturday when it had rain a night before and when I took the car to them on monday it was all dried up. I am worried if that happens again and have any risk of fire in the car. Do you know how should I approach if one service center can't find it?
Show them this video. The way you can make it leak is by pulling up the little rubber flap at the top of the windshield and pouring water behind that. It takes a good rainstorm to get water behind that or a car wash, but it does naturally get back there. But if you're water testing, you might not get it there in that amount of time
I have a 2021 no sun roof, that was getting wet inside on the floor boards. I thought it was coming from the front it was worse if you drove in the rain. My dealer took the car on the second attempt for two days and we found water is coming in from the rear hatch. We still can’t find how but know it’s coming in from the rear and working its way forward.
Thank you! Had mine in the shop way too much trying to solve this. Have you noticed any water damage or electrical corrosion from the water in that area? Is the rust(or is it just dirt?) just on the surface?
It's dirt, and it's just on the surface, carried in by the water and left behind.
I've not seen any that were complaining about an electrical issue so far, just the leak.
@@SealofPerfection thanks! I took out the overhead console and confirmed mine has two small holes, on the passenger side by the wiring harness. I’ll be able to show the dealer your video and finally get this fixed!
@@cryptocap21 Awesome, that's exactly why I made it. First one I found, it took me a couple of attempts to find it. Once I did, I started looking for it, and have seen a bunch of them now, so I figured there had to be a lot around the country. Clearly, they're not all just coming to me, lol.

@pacfanweb, how did you end up resolving this problem? did you remove the windshield or just fill the holes without doing so? I currently have this problem and I'm lookingfor the best course of action.
Remove the windshield, seal the holes from the outside

@@SealofPerfection one more quick question, was it necessary to remove the headliner to complete the repair or just the windshield and onstar console?
@@baret32 I looked at this vehicle at a dealership and diagnosed it for them. They had a glass company come out and pull the windshield. That's not really something you can do yourself.
I do water leaks and sunroof repairs, but I generally don't do glass work like that.
If you wanted to try something, you could remove the console and try jamming sealer into the hole with your finger. You might get lucky and have it go up in there enough to stop the leak without pulling the glass.
I kind of doubt it, since there are 2 or 4 layers of metal there, but it's worth a try.
@pacfanweb hey, once again thank you for responding. The reason I'm picking your brain is because I will be taking it to the dealer, but you know dealers often have difficulty recreating problems. The more information I can present them with when I take it in, the better. It seems that you have found the probable cause of these leaks. They do have a water specialist that they use so I would also like to give them a heads up as well in case they aren't familiar with the problems with these particular vehicles.
Thanks for making this! What should I tell the dealer exactly to have them look at this and fix it? They told me it was the sunroof and its still leaking and its so frustrating!
I looked at a couple of these more than once before I finally found it. I thought it was the sunroof as well.
If they will pull the overhead console, which is pretty easy to do, and look at the spot welds where I point to in the video, they'll probably see one or more that have holes and obvious dirt coming through them.
It's pretty easy to water test them and prove it as well, but it needs to be done with the overhead console removed so they can see the leak location.
I'd just show them the video, or send them the link. I'm a vendor that does work for multiple dealerships, they call me to diagnose and fix leaks. Maybe yours doesn't do that and does leaks in-house. In that case, make sure their tech has the video link, and he can see how to verify this is it.

@@user-mi3kx5qk1u The fix is to remove the windshield, and seal the spot welds from the outside. I discuss it in the video, but there's no point in sealing them from the inside because there are 2-3 sections of metal all welded together, so if you seal the bottom one...which is the part you can see from the inside, the water will still leak in the middle of the section and just come out somewhere else.
I've seen probably close to 10 of these now, and the GM dealer I service has had a glass company come in, remove the windshield and reinstall it, and while applying the new sealer to reinstall the glass, he just wipes a bit extra on the spot welds and that fixes it.
Some glass companies say you can't remove the glass without breaking it so it needs to be replaced, but this guy is like 10 for 10 so far, he's not broken a single one. But regardless, that's how you fix it.
