You absolutely can hide behind it as long as you understand the difference between concealment and cover.
Maybe if it was full of ballistic vests? That might provide a little more protection.

Surely the secondary holes are being punched from the metal circle the bullet is digging out of the backside of the dryer? So as the bullet flies clean through the metal and the plywood, a small metal “scab” is also being flung at the plywood like a piece of spalling?
I don’t think those little sheet metal circles would have anywhere near enough mass to penetrate.

A sheet rock wall does not work to well either. Most rounds go right through. I have heard that steel electrical boxes can help some, but the odds are not great for that. They are not that large in a house if any are there.
Interior walls won't even stop a .22. Any round will go through an interior (gypsum board over studs) wall. Every 20 years or so some gun writer decides to re-prove it.
Concealment and cover are not the same thing

The 9mm rounds probably took the metal from the dryer along for the ride. So my guess is that the dryer metal separated from the FMJ projectile(s) after the rounds exited the back end of the dryer. The dryer metal had enough force to put a hole through the wood or made the indentation.
They should try a refrigerator and refrigerator door next time. How many times have we seen that in the movies. I’m sure some duct tape would have everyone fooled.
Canada is far ahead. They recommend to place the FOB on a table by the front door, so burglars can pick it up and be on their way. That's safe and expected.

How well would an emergency door from a shopping center hold up? If you're trying to flee a building it sure would suck to run out an emergency exit just be the only target in a wide open outdoor parking lot....the alternative would be to hold the door shut with both arms, but then it sure would suck to be holding the door just to catch a bunch of rounds comming through the door. I've worked retail before and have had to watch videos on active shooters, personally I think emergency exits should be bulletproof but have absolutely no idea.
I believe there is absolutely no safe place in your home and for that reason I believe you should First, get out and run like the devil or Second, be proactive and defend yourself to end the threat .

Based on my real experience, one of those old white squat refrigerators is about the best cover you'll find in a home.

It was bird shot. Bird shot won't even reliably make it through light sheet metal. Up close however it will blow holes through interior home walls.

Your first shot with the birdshot, you show the inside and it didn't penetrate the DRUM. Then the 9mm shots and you shot AROUND the drum, and don't show the inside to see if any even HIT the drum. Come-on MAN.
I like to wrap all my appliances in armor for just such a situation.
