  • I got this Joey Landreth Signature Amp by Two Rock, a couple of months ago. It has taken me a while to understand what i'd use it for, and how. Expecting it to be like my other amps was really just pointless and so I've had to look for ways to use it in the way it is intended. It is like no other amp...

Enjoy it but I Ithink it is a bit one dimensional . Stick with the CRS as it is a better all round amp and get your loot back for another guitar !!

This amp sounds spectacular, and I really enjoy your playing and demoing all this phenomenal gear. I do find it comical that I'm ready to spend 10k on an amp to recreate a swamp blues sound that was originated on a rusty bucket amp carved from an alligator skull and a shipwrecked guitar strung with cat guts, but GAS is real.

I have had mine for a couple months. Definitely unique in so many ways. It is not one dimensional. You need to spend time with it. There are a lot of sounds in there. Thanks for the video James. Cheers!

It really benefits from turning it up loud. The input gain knob pushes the power section but if that's not cooking you won't feel it. Set the master high and it'll feel different. You can use a power station or similar to tamp down volume for in a room. I think you nailed it at the end of the video, the amp is innovative and I personally love mine. Bright and gainy blues amp - go Marshall or Fender. The JL two rock is a creativity machine!

My objective opinions on this amp are similar to yours James. It’s good to know you’re not the only one feeling this way isn’t it. Well I feel better knowing another owner is thinking along similar lines to me anyway 😊
I still feel that using it with a Fryette PS is a good way to get maximum flexibility out of this amp. It’s a warm amp through the 3x10 cab and I feel I can get a more even tonal balance going through the Fryette, because without it, I am too restricted in my personal environment to cope with the volume that would be required to experiment with more tonal variation. I also plan to try the amp with TR 1x12, TR 2x12 and Celestion offerings to see how it reacts.
I too feel this amp takes a significant leap forward in feel and texture with P90/Humbucker PuP’s. It has not excited me with single coils yet, but I have only just started experimenting with gain pedals…
Which brings me to my final agreement that pedals are the way to go with this amp. I am not really a great fan of gain pedals. I have my fair share of gain pedals but often play without them because to my ears they often detract from an amp sounding at it’s most open/natural. I prefer using Fryette PS boxes to give me complete control of an amp at any volume I wish. With the JL sig however, pedals feels more or less obligatory. Like the amp literally needs some additional quality gain stages to get the magic flowing.
So I too am very much figuring out the amp and the more I experiment outside my de facto standard approach, the more rewarding the amp gets.
I thinking we need to take our time with this one and maybe I finally understand why some guitarists comment it takes months or even a year+ knowing there’s some magic lying in wait with some gear. Sometimes it just takes a while to put your fingers on it. 🙂

Sweet and warm sound James! I get the tonal vibe of perhaps some drop D tuning, playing some RJ Ronquillo style vintage moody blues? it’s got a great sound. Thanks so much for sharing

I have a constant battle of GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome). I constantly go through buying too much for what I need and then sell and pair down. I like how you have a lot of items to share with us though! I. like the sound of this amp and being a Joey fanboy, I completely agree that you need a selection of pedals to get the sounds he gets. (GAS) LOL. Cheers! Great videos.

I’m using a Fender Custom ‘64 Princeton, a Swart STR, and a Fender ‘62 Custom Princeton for a black/tweed/brown wet/dry/wet for the Joey sound and love it. All amps picked up 2nd hand. Love the tone.

I absolutely love mine. Pairs very well with both my TR Studio Signature & Mesa Cali Tweed or all 3. Couldn’t be happier with it.
Sell it if you will, but I’d bet you’d regret it.

If you asked me if there are any amps in circulation today that will be “Dumbles” in 25 years, I would say no . . . Unless it’s the Joey Landreth signature Two-Rock.

Go with the p90's in it and experiment. maybe it will be the great middleground for this amp x ur single coil adventures ;D def great tones here, if it feels for you at least as good as it sounds, its a keeper for now in my ears ;!!

I'd put my money firmly on James selling this amp as he's sold many other fantastic amps (Bartell etc) that he was far more enthusiastic about using.

😅 i am still split on this one, much more than i was on selling the bartel. Although the bartel is great as a one amp, if you have the amps it is trying to voice then it doesn’t quite match that. If gigging, then yeah, it makes sense if you need to cover wide ground. But the JL is far more unique and impossible to replace! We’ll have to see 🤔

Joey puts this as the wet amp and then puts a Studio Signature to the left and right. He’s still using a wet/dry/wet set up. Try

Don’t sell this. If anything else this amp sets you apart from other UA-cam channels… I think these clips show that the amp evokes a certain ‘James’ sound though that’s pretty damn cool.

Wow an $8000 dollar amp that needs pedals to sound good?!

    • @djt6546
      @djt6546 11 місяців тому

It’s not really like that. It’s more complex. But on a relatively quick blast it’s easy to think about very high cost vs first impressions lack of flexibility. That said pedals work like a dream with this amp to get a plethora of styles/textures. It’s not an amp anyone should dismiss and get rid of quickly given it’s unique place in the world of guitar (in terms of voice and 1 of 100), especially given the initial price tag of submission 😊
