I have a Colombian friend who says Aerosucre is not seen as abnormal or unusual there. There are so many daily risks to life in Bogota that a grossly-overloaded cargo plane doesn't even draw attention unless it actually crashes on somebody.

I guess providing you don't crash back on the runway if you retract the gear then in one sense you've climbed to an altitude equal to the length of the undercarriage which is more than the 0 it was and therefore must have been a +ve rate.

The merest hint of an Aerosucre takeoff causes a mad rush of aviation enthusiasts to the end of the runway in order to catch footage of the anticipated carnage on their cell phone cameras. The Aerosucre Boeing 727 did *not* lose height after lift-off. After getting airborne, they levelled off for a moment to accelerate with the benefit of ground effect and then continued their normal climb. A procedure not normally seen on a jet airplane but hey, it's Aerosucre after all and at the end of the day I'd call it textbook flying.

I was flying out of Denver in the mid 1990s on a fully loaded 737. Noticed the pilots either forgot or did not extend the flaps as I was sitting right behind the left wing. And it was a hot day at that. We did not lift off until just after we ran off the pavement. That being said I had flown to Denver from Las Vegas. On my way to the Vegas airport the shuttlebus I was in was at the end of the short runway when a flight had a late lift-off there and absolutely showered us with chat and gravel. I don't know about the Denver flight but that late take-off in Vegas earned a news article and the attention of the FAA. As if I needed any of this. I had an infected tooth and was heading home to get it pulled. That flight out of Denver hit stormy weather on the way to Oklahoma City and I was miserable.

  • @epiercestewartjr8628

I did this many times in my Beech D50 when loaded. Accelerate, rotate and climb a few feet so I could safely retract the gear, drop down a few feet so I was within a half wingspan of the ground so I could take advantage of ground effect for perhaps 2 or 3 seconds and then climb. Great way to get a few free extra knots. The Aerosucre pilot made a perfect example of this technique. Too many pilots pull it off and mush ahead holding their breath.

I don't know if Aerosucre "loses height" as advertised, but they definitely needed to level off a bit and build up speed before they could continue the initial climb out. Suggests maybe the real issue was early rotation or too much rotation. Taking off from SKBO at 8300 ft in a heavily loaded plane, it is not your normal low elevation takeoff. In FSX I could barely get the plane off the runway by the end, and that wasn't heavily loaded.

Scales be like: “You’re too heavy. It’s not safe to take off!”
Aerosucre be like: “We don’t need no stinking scales!”

The 727 needed to stay in ground effect for awhile longer then climb out. Those Coney Island pilots are nuts.

A few months ago I was flying out of BOG and we were behind a 727 from Aerosucre. For a second I thought, "That mf is gonna crash and I'll get stuck here" they shouldn't be allowed to fly out of major airports.

Even it is extremely notorious, Aerosucre continues to do the same "job", without being bothered by any authorities. This is a sign the cartels are sovereign out there. Obviously, these planes are not overloaded with sugar... We should call this company Aerokoko... or Aerohero.

Baggage loader to Aerosucre pilot. . "How much weight can your plane carry?"
Aerosucre pilot "Whatever is on the plane right now, we can always fit at least 600 kilos more"
