The survival of the spirit of Judaism through Channukah and rededication of the Jewish temple in Yerushalem, paved way to the monotheism of Christianity and Islam.....perfectly put Rabbi .. Thank you J-TV, Rabbi Ken Spiro and Oliver for this great show giving us right in time for the Channukah.....I especially needed this personally right now, as this year's Channukah I am really struggling and unable to keep my very Jewish soul spiritually active...thank so much

Why would semi or fully Hellenized Jews record the miracle?

Because they weren't Hellenized. That was an important part of the revolt. The Maccabees were opposed to Hellenists, in fact, it was in part, a civil war between the Jewish Hellenists and the traditionalists. After the war, the Maccabees literally went around forcing circumcision on those Hellenized Jews who hadn't been circumcised. Also, if you read the Books of the Maccabees, you'll see they were very religious. They prayed before each battle and thanked God for each victory. Plus they were the priestly family.

This was terribly disappointing. The real story of Hanukkah should include that neither of the Books of the Maccabees say one word about any miracle, especially a lack of oil except enough for one night that lasted for eight days. Instead, the Book of the Maccabees says that they decided to celebrate the rededication of the temple for eight days because they were prevented from celebrating Sukkot and Shiminei Atsetret, which totals 8 days. So it was to make up for lost time, that is all. No miracle! Also, the Books of the Maccabees were written shortly after the revolt so its accuracy is more credible. It wasn't written hundreds of years later like the Talmud where we first read of the miracle that didn't happen. As to why it was called The Festival of Lights, Josephus says, "And from that time to this we celebrate this festival, and call it Lights. I suppose the reason was, because this liberty beyond our hopes appeared to us; and that thence was the name given to that festival." (Josephus, Antiquities 12:316-325 [7:6-7])
In the Christian bible Hannukah is known as the Festival of Dedication.
So why did the talmudists create the oil myth some 500 years after the fact? This is speculation. One theory is that we lost the temple and our country in war in 70 CE, then Massada in 73 CE and then the Bar Kochba revolt in 132 CE. The talmudists might have decided let's shy away from this military victory and create an innocuous miracle that we can attribute to God because we've been defeated and crushed in war.
But the oil myth has become our Santa Claus. At least Christians eventually learn that there is no such thing as Santa but we perpetuate our myth. How embarrassing. And this video had the chance to expose it but instead it attacked Christian mythology regarding Christmas as the time of the birth of Jesus. This video needs a complete overhaul.
