Forget SRV, 2:55 was the smoothest guitar change in history xD
Didn't even spot that 1st time round - so slick!!!
shit that was epic indeed, so classy
Lol was expecting something more impressive. I was let down.
I was expecting nothing it was mint.
And then there is 0:57.
The back of the Chapman looks awesome with the natural wood set through. Sound wise i think i like the PRS and Gordon Smith
I thought the Schecter Solo-II customs were going to be on here for sure
No reverend or yamaha either :(. But I guess the range of les paul inspired(lp spec) guitars is so huge, especially when you include a double cut in there
Yoseph McJoe probably could have been. But Chappers needed to advertise his brand, instead of finding interesting instruments.
To be fair his brand is interesting, you're not gonna get a guitar that good for that kind of money pretty much anywhere you go... and it is a real competitor in this genre so why not feature it
Do Andertons actually sell those brands?
Great concept! You guys should do this with strat style guitars and then super strats and then extreme shapes (ie Explorer or jazzmaster)
Don't forget Vs and Telecasters
5:31 "I think this is an EC-1000" - *holds the EC-1000 inlay 12cm away from his eye*
Love the whole vibe of the Gordon Smith guitar, it's understated and sounds killer. :)
i have an ESP LTD eclipse with EMG pickups and i love that guitar it just sounds and feels great
The coffee cup hijinks continue. I love you Rory.
I wish he'd insert a 'Parp!' and gust of smoke coming out of Lee's arse when he gets off his chair :)
The EC-1000 deluxe is a fantastic budget guitar! Nice binding, very nice top, locking grover tuners, 22 frets, and good choice of pickups.
That ESP has to be the sexiest guitar I've ever seen.
Potato, Potato it is... I love mine modded to 18v
That matte black finish with gold hardware is pornographic. Pure filth.
DONT LIE!!.YOU WOULD SPRAY PAINT IT PINK AND SCREAM INTO THE MIC..I REALLY WANTED A LES PAUL BUT MOMMY WOULDNT BUY ME ONE!!!
Justin Roman Check out Gibson Black Beauties or Customs from the 60’s that have actually aged to look that color
Tried the esp/Ltd ec-1000 and it looked great. But, didn’t have the feel and tone for me so I traded for an LP studio! Excellent guitar those esp/Ltd, great value indeed! Right up there with the studio in all aspects. It’s a tone preference thing is all.
I've been watching their videos for several years now. One thing I have to point out is that Lee Anderton's playing ability has really improved! Musically speaking, this was one of the best videos I've ever seen from these two. I really like it when they are switching off playing rhythm and lead, but the backing track behind them this time, really pulled a bit more out of both of them. Rob used to just shred up and down the neck faster than a pile of japanese beetles through a pine forest, but not much musicality in it. We all know he's actually a pro musician, but this time he really really put it all together and sounded awesome! Great job to all involved.
1: My thing is if I am paying £1000 for a guitar, it had better come with a hard case, one specifically designed for that guitar, and not some generic gig bag. (Thank you, Chapman! It is one of the reasons I am thinking of selling my ESPs, and being exclusive to Chapman.)
2: Rob holding that sustained note while handing a guitar to Lee, now THAT is talent right there.
The PRS SE Tremonti Custom and Zach Myers signature models are great options as well. Was able to get a great deal on an SE Myers and it's an incredible guitar.
yeah! i have one se myers best guitar i bought. no glossy finish
I had the Zach Myers for a bit, I miss that guitar and definitely getting another. (was open box with some unfixable issues). PRS support even sent me parts for free to try and fix it, blew my mind companies like that still exist.
I have a PRS SE Nick Catanese signature model (single cut, EMG actives) which is the best playing guitar I have ever owned (American Strats and Teles - I am a confirmed Fender nut) - sadly this model is no longer in production, but I have to say it beats every Les Paul and LP style guitar I have tried over the last 40 years.
Been looking at the Zach Myers today, went to a shop in Manchester UK to have a look at some Gibson Les Paul Traditional's and saw a few flaws in them, cracked finish around the bridge screws, what seemed to be a crack on the nut. Always wanted a Les Paul but looking at the standard of the PRS at nearly half the price!!!!!
i just looked . those are affordable as hell
Pretty much the comparisons I was looking for in a new guitar! Now to only watch it a dozen more time. Thanks, guys!
Pumped to see that you took my suggestion that I PM'd you a while ago. I feel special!
Great review - nice to see/hear a range of options - more like this please :-)
The LTD EC401VF is a very underrated guitar, I have one, it's amazing.
Agreed. Mine has the DiMarzio 36th Anniversary pickups in it. I'm getting ready to spend $150 - $250 to put a set in my $2,000 LP Standard to try and make it sound as good as my LTD.
Lee sounds amazing in his opening playing. More Les Paul from Lee I say...
Could you try a single humbucker chapman? obviously with a coil tap....
Xandeeno they did the ml1 hot rod a while back which is strat shaped and single humbucker. Unsure about the coil tap though
Darren Batty yeah wish they did that again
coil splitting > coil tapping
Ashley Johansson most people that say coil tap actually mean coil split
Niko Yochum Don’t they effectively do the same thing, other than coil tapping being hum cancelling and using different parts of both coils?
I was waiting for the break sound when Rob put his mug down and then it teleported... Mind blown.
I also never get tired of you guys ripping the frets. I wish I could do that.
Should have the Schecter Solo-II Custom in this list now. It's so good.
As I am sure someone has commented already, the PRS S2 Singlecut Standard Satin's tone knobs can be pulled to split either humbucker (a resistor is used, per pickup, such that it is neither a full split nor a tap).
I love everything about this channel, been watching for years and will continue to!
The 2017 Studio did sound pretty awesome.
shapes2000 I’ve got a 2009 & 2012 and love the tones. Traded my esp/Ltd ec-1000 Koa top for the 09.
Agree but i.like 24 fret better
Lee Slowhand Anderton :)
Slowhanderton?
Good one!
I don't understand people are hating on chappers pulling out a chapman. They could do 20 guitars that are les paul inspired and if 19 of them weren't chapman and one of them was y'all would still fuss. Couple years ago everyone was asking to see more chapman guitars. I personally think they are great guitars and do their own thing very well. Everyone has their own opinion but y'all need to chill with bashing him for using chapman. They own the damn company so if they want to use the guitars then let them! If you don't like them then piss off!
I've noticed most of the nasty comments sarted after the NAMM show reveal of the new Chapman line with the Standard and Pro range and their different price points. I think the Pro range prices were unexpected and hit a lot of people hard, and now there are a lot of sour grapes out there holding a grudge. Before this past NAMM I hardly saw any negativity around Chapman guitars.
Jennifer Doneske yes I agree which is something I still don't understand. All of the signature models (besides the cap-10) like the bea sig and the rob scallon models were the price of the pro models now which were kind of like the pro lineup of the original chapmans. I don't get the hate but it is what it is. I just hope that people will chill out. If they don't like chapman guitars then that is fine but there is no need to throw so much hate around like they do.
I agree Guitarholic27 Peterson - anyone who has a problem with what Rob and Lee decide to include should feel free to stop watching and boring true guitar aficionados with their predictable, hackneyed and snide remarks.
Ian Davis exactly. I mean yes everyone is entitled to their own opinions and freedom of speech and all that but there is also professional courtesy and if you don't like what they choose then fine. You can even state it. But after the 30th video of seeing the same people hating on rob and lee it's just kinda like you don't even want to go the comment section anymore because everyone is
Just being abunch of horses asses. I don't like certain presenters and certain videos but I don't comment that. I just simply stop watching them. Why is that so hard for people? Do they get off just to talk crap about people? Like
Lee said. Those aren't true musicians.
No what really happened is they started hating on them more when they changed factories because everybody was saying the wuality went down there were many reviews on it thats when people really started saying aomething but I still dont get it he is using the same factory as many other guitar companies do like schecter and evrrything and usually the quality is good out of the indonesia factory it makes no sense but yeah zi dont get all of the hate makes no sense and there is no need for sll of this hate in the guitar industry we all should be supporting one another
A little constructive criticism, I feel like the initial backing track was a bit busy for the lead work. Either lowering it in the master or just straight up playing 'smaller' chords could've made it a bit better.
I play my PRS S2 Standard Singlecut more than my Les Paul because(in no order) 1.) The feel, 2.) Stays in tune, 3.) Sounds amazing
2:55 Slick, man!
Yeah, that was nice!
That was smoother than butter!
You can get the eclipse with a full thickness body it's the ec-1000t traditional I think. 🤘🏽
Going to be going to Andertons for the first time on the weekend! Very excited
I want to hear PRS shootout, 22 vs 245, se vs custom etc. ! :o
Interesting video as usual guys!cheerrs from italy!love you guys!
Lee's playing is absolutely mind blowing. So much feel and clarity.
A day doesn't go by when I don't watch your videos from any one of your channels. No matter how much I watch, I ALWAYS learn something new (which I love). You guys are the greatest :D Keep up the awesome work; we're loving it!!! :D :D :D Cheers!
I just bought this Chapman ML 2 Pro. I so love this guitar! The design, color and sound are almost perfect.
I was thinking the same thing about that the Gordon Smith! Made me think of Cream and I think clapton played an SG back then.
Whoever edits these videos and adds the little random quirks in there is a bloody genius, never fails to crack me up! lol
Great idea for a video. I love my Les Paul Studio.
Can yall do more blindfold challenge
Tristan Smith "Is this a Chapman ml-2 or Chapman ml-1?"
ML-2 the ML-1 is an S type.
I had a Gordon Smith for years and absolutely loved it. I now have an Epi and Gibo LP amongst others but I still miss my GS but hard to find now in NZ
Always absolutely brilliant videos.
TLDR; Perhaps Andertons weren't selling enough of Gordon Smiths in their shop and hence this was a disguised promo?
First off, both you guys have been doing an amazing job for years now and I'm a huge fan!! I'm also not complaining about the inclusion of ML2 in this list, or any other list from Chappers/Lee for that matter, as I genuinely think they SHOULD believe in their product and it's only fair to be promoting/talking-about what they believe in - I'd have been worried if they didn't believe in their own product. BUT, I'm a bit suspect about the inclusion of the Gordon Smith GS2 here. I, in my limited knowledge, think it's more of a 60's vintage Melody Maker or at best an LP Special double cut inspired guitar. There are plenty, plenty more guitars that were worthy to be included in this 'LP inspired' list. Perhaps Andertons weren't selling enough of Gordon Smiths in their shop and hence this was a disguised promo??
Thanks guys. Been a fan for the longest time. Truly enjoy the vids and the banter. Was a bit annoyed by the 'Guitars under 500 quid" vid, but I think all the 'criticism' since should have you steering well ofF that pitfall! Thanks again for being in form and producing thoroughly entertaining and informative vids. Cheers n all the best!
Eclipse is also 24.75 scale...
Deniz M I believe that most eclipses are but the EC1000 is 25 scale
Just checked their website. It's 24.75.
Nope it is 24.75 :)
I was wrong
Just a number :)
Lee, you sounded fantastic on the Eclipse around the 6 minute mark.
2:53 that was straight out sick
Man, Lee is on top of his game here. Sounds great, brother.
That was great I hope you do explorers soon.
One thing I see reviewers fail to mention, but is important, is scale length. Thanks for bringing this to the attention of your audience.
I love the Gordon Smith, the Chapman looks cool but is definitely the worst sounding (to my ears anyway, YMMV)
I agree... sounds a bit thin
The Captain's playing has been going from strength to strength, playing along with a looper has cleared his rhythms and phrasing right up! Keep it going Lee
That EC-1000 was so good I bought one for myself! Lovely instrument!
I can really recommend FGN, if you are looking for super amazing sounding, feeling and classic looking Les Paul around 1000€ (or even less than 650€ used). I got one myself couple years ago and it is still my favourite guitar for almost everything. They do not have any stuff like chambering, so they are pretty damn heavy though.
me too bro..i got an lc 10..such a nice quality..traditionally builted..and yes they are made in japan...!too bad that they are not well-known..
I have the telecaster model and it's a wonderful thing to look at and play
Excellent video. The only problem i had is with the backing track being panned to the right ( probably cause Lee played it). This made the times when lee was soloing over the backing track sounded a bit busy and cluttered. I personally think that having the backing track just in the center. Thanks for the great videos guys
Thanks for HOURS of amusement and info...Andertons is the prettiest music store I have ever seen,
I think ESP and Chapman their LP-style guitars are pretty much what Gibson's Les Pauls SHOULD be these days or for the recent many years already actually. Not saying those are perfected versions or anything, but definitely how to go with the times.
I finally got to play an ML2 (lower priced version) at a Guitar Center in Sacramento , CA, USA. Honestly, it played better than my Les Paul Studio (though I preferred my LP‘ s tone). I loved it. I wish I could have played the pro series.
7:46...Rob's tea cup magically appears out of nowhere.
At 2:55 when chapters is still playing lead, stretches over to hand lee another guitar. Genius
Hey guys! This comment has nothing to do with this video, but it is a recommendation for a video... Last night I had the pleasure to see Richie Kotzen live in Barcelona, please please pretty please try to get him in "The Captain meets..." This video would be an incredible hit!!!
Much love from Barcelona!
Great video guys .. waiting for the S type shootout ..
I almost bought that PRS last week .. happy I didn't .. yet . I found it a little too bassy, let us see what ML1 will do against its rivals.
Gotta agree with Rob here - if I were buying a LP style guitar from this video, it'd be either the S2 or the Chapman. In fact, I'd buy either of them over the Studio.
I have an EC-50 and it's a sort of blank slate for you to mod. I put some Grovers, a GFS in the bridge and a Wilkinson in the neck. It's great! And that's not to say that it wasn't already great. Next I'll probably change the bridge. Cheers!
Lee's playing has gotten crazy good over the past year-year and a half!
Shout out to the cameraman/editor of Andertons, really superb.
I really love the look of the new ml-2 pros! Especially the fireburst (I believe it's called) one, I just wish the toggle would be in the "right" position :D
Hey, just a small suggestion to you guys at Andertons: I think you guys should start tagging the amplifiers used in the video. So if I look up the word Marshall JVM, or Victory RD1, I should be able to find this video.
If Rob & Lee were to bring back that gorgeous Antique sunburt colour for the ML2 I'd give them my money right now. Until they do i guess I'll have to settle for a esp ltd ec-1000T
I would say that the Gordon Smith guitar featured here is more like a Melody Maker than a Les Paul type. You could have used a Gordon Smith Les Paul shaped guitar though, they make beautiful guitars, and with single cutaways. So why didn't you...? Doesn't quite make sense.
I have pretty much the same Gordon Smith GS2 as the one in this video. Except mine has coil taps and the fully compensated bridge. Best guitar I've ever played. I'm actually driving down to guildford tonight from manchester and will be visiting andertons with it tomorrow. So it was refreshing to see this video just before my visit :D
I bought a Les Paul inspired Ibanez ARZ200 goldtop for less than $500 Canadian. I really like it. Excellent build quality. It has a slim joint making access to the upper frets very easy compared to other Les Paul types. It has the same Classic Elite H pickups that Ibanez put on much more expensive guitars like the AFS75. My hands love this guitar, it's my go to guitar when learning or composing.
The curse of the appearing coffee cup at 7:48 !!
Let him be proud of his awesome Guitar Company! Its not like the ML-2 doesnt has its place in this Lineup :)
the studio came out about 28 years ago, cause that was the time i bought mine ;-) its still working great, even though i changed most of the hardware so its the cherry dark red with silver now and Suhr pickups.
That ep 1000 has to be the best looking out of all of them.
Chapman sounded quite a bit different than the others, I'm sure with some amp tweaking I would've liked it just as much but as of the video it sounded a touch too warm to me, it needed a little more bark
Good stuff lads. Would have liked to see your thoughts on the Ibanez AR though.
I have a Chapman ml2 and a les paul and I love them equally. their both great guitars.
S2 Single cut with a set of Pearly Gates or whatever pickups you like, imo. That pattern regular neck shape is perfection.
The LTD Vintage black you played does also come with EMG's if you want them. You had the Duncan version. Oh and Rob I'm not sure you are an ESP artist anymore, you're not listed on the website as one. Good video though just wished it had been longer.
If "inspired" means more about the vibe / feel /sound than just the singlecut shape, you can also consider Ibanez AR, Yamaha sg, Yamaha RS, Ibanez RC. Also Fujigen has some lp style models that are made in Japan and pretty affordable
that Chapman is aces.. Admit it guys , you love it too.. Many Humbucking guitars have a very neutral sound.. only once you add the pedals do they come alive.. but the Chapman has its own unique sound which is quite pleasant.
I hope they keep doing this series forever
I think this concept was great and you should definitely expand on this to other shape/styles of guitar, but I think you could also expand this to other budget, for example Les Paul inspired guitars for under £500. That could also be a way to do over the last under £500 video you did were people thought it was biased.
I personally don't think Chappers was too biased in this video. Yeah, he preferred the sound of the Chapman and LTD, but that's because he's looking for a more modern sound. I'm personally biased toward the PRS, because I just love them!
15:17 Someone is lamenting the end of season 7!
The Les Paul studio is 35 years old next year. It gets me the same way.
The Gibson just had that thick chunky vintage les paul rock sound that none of the others quite matched. A couple had a little something of it but for the most part they all sounded pretty modern even if they didn't always look modern. The Chapman and LTD looked pretty slick and the set through was pretty sweet. I really wanted to like the PRS better. because I'm kind of interested in a semi hollow Mira for the light weight. I really wanted to like something to stand out other than the Les Paul because they are kind of thick, chunky and heavy without any comfort sculpting. Ah well..
Loved that Ltd witch surprised me.
we done to Rob, managed to go 12 minutes before trying to make it into a Chapman infomercial
And why wouldn't he choose the ML-2 when it fits the video? Why do you trolls have to comment crap like this on every single video? The guitars are good, Lee is the co-owner, why wouldn't they feature the guitars here, when it fits the video? And don't tell me Andertons has become just a Chapman-commercial-channel, because that is bullshit...
I'm not a troll but when he always points out that the Chapman guitar is the best it takes credibility away from him. A little objectivity would be nice. It's a great channel, with loads of great videos but this "the Chapman is the best because of this this and this" being said by an owner of the business detracts from it
+Oliver Carpenter I agree with you. Chappers hasn't come close to an UNBIASED review for a long time now.
Why wouldn't he say it is the best? Name me one guitar company that advertises its own products as "Pretty good, I mean, its not as good as the other brand but maybe give us a shot anyway?".
Also, the channel has been an advertising space for what is sold in the Andertons store since day one, with no exception. They don't compare everything on the market they simply grab what they have in the store.
Plus, you get to watch it all for free, so really you are complaining about something you don't pay for that has always been about what you are complaining about.
Love that GS2. Would love to see a Prestige Coupe or Heritage in here.
I liked them all!! Chapman is a great guitar at a great price. I prefer the traditional L.P. or PRS. but then again I’ve never played a Chapman. I hope to soon!!!!
I would have love to see a Jackson Monarkh in that line up for this video, even if it's less than $1000.
I own a PRS S2 Standard. It's an absolute beast. Versatilty, playability, sound, feel. It all clicks. Incredible value for money.
dare I say that Lee's soloing is getting better then Rob's?
olivier arnold robs a shredder, lee plays more rhythmically. Personally, I much prefer Lees style
he might be a shredder and i have nothing against it, I'm not saying that at all, I like shred, jazz, fusion but being a good musician also means having good timing, and it happens a little to often that he for example doesn't finish on the beat etc, and i think that the combination of timing, phrasing etc makes a good musician but personally i think that rob has recentyl lost some vibes he used to have, not trying to discredit him in any way, he just had a kid and ofcourse its not easy to mix music and having a kid but just saying.... Might have to play a little more again, cause he really is a good guy and musician
olivier arnold Music has 3 main components. Rhythm, bass, and melody. They're all equally important if the music is going to be subconsciously good sounding. and a shredder running through scales is not music because it has none of those aspects that make music good.
WheatWormStudios I don't agree with that. By that logic, bands like the White Stripes aren't music because they don't have bass, or Meshuggah isn't music because they are really rhythm focused rather than melody.
I would agree that Rob's shredding is really lame though.
sorry but that indeed doesnt really make sense
Gordon Smith guitars have always been fantastic, so pleased to see one here
Watching this video 1000000000 years to late but I have the PRS and it DOES have coil split. One of my favorite features. Sounds so good tapped!! Maybe good info if someone wants to buy one used.
Okay, it has been told numerous times by a lot of people, that Chapman guitars are "pushed" too hard in these videos by Chappers and blah blah blah... But man, that'a a really classy move at 2:55, that's how you promote a brand! :D Holding that note and doing those awesome bends on a Gibbo while not giving a sh_t about it and handing the product to your mate... :D Well done, Sir! :D
Next time you guys want to do a multiple guitar swapping intro how using a tuner pedal with bypass on the foot-switch so we don't hear all the popping and humming when you change over.
I wasn't hating on Chapmans. You guys did a comparison and I gave my opinion. Chapmans are great quality for the price. I've been to the Korean factory many times and do great work. So sorry if you thought I was shitting on Chapmans, absolutely not.
