Scott Collier as a lefty who plays righty, I can say product selection was my main driving factor for learning right handed, and besides you use both hands a lot any way so it's not even that big of a learning curve, I have three left handed mates who have done the same, in fact I know more leftys who play right handed than I do leftys who play lefty.
The blindfold challenge really is the best way to do these completely objective comparisons. I can't believe how my perception about what I'm playing changes as soon as I know what it is! I guess that's the power of brand & the emotional impact of just liking the idea of owning something. However, choosing a new guitar is about picking the "best" one for you, AND fulfilling some deep desire to own something just because it is what it is! Does that make sense? Sorry - got a bit deep there!!
CaptAnderton The emotional impact of wanting to own something is totally true. Looks does play a part. I was looking for an archtop and someone offered me an Aria Pro II FA71 for $130. That one sounded the best to me although it wasn’t set up properly. I also tried an Ibanez Joe Pass Emperor, a 60s Hofner, and an Eastman AR610. The cheapest guitar actually sounded the best to me, but I ended up forking $1,000 for the Eastman. I loved the way it looks, I spent so much time taking photos of it on my phone. I really liked the idea of owning a beautiful guitar. I step into my room and it’s the first thing I see. But when I play it, I couldn’t get the Wes Montgomery tone that I could with the Aria. I simply accepted the compromise....
I like these tests, recently a drummer turned guitarist, i used this technique, well i shut my eye's and attemptedto play, to purchase my new guitar which i thought was going to be a strat or tele of some kind, hopefully a fender. After spending 5 hours in my local music store playing everything from £100 to £4200 I walked out with a Gibson 2018 faded in worn Bourbon. A total surprise because i have never looked at Gibson's after i held one at the age of 14 and thought they were too heavy and being a Clapton fan was not the right look or guitar for me, but for me it felt the best sounded the best and looks lovely, thanks for giving me the right idea's to help me choose the right guitar for me!!! Keep up the good work =)
I thought it was funnier that Rob kept doing it after only 2 seconds of Lee playing lol whereas Rob will fiddle on each guitar for minutes on his blindfold challenges. Although in Rob's defense, Lee plays the same few chord progressions and simple pentatonic / blues scale runs.
You pay for the aesthetics and feel in a PRS core. the SE and core have basically the same wood and everything else. Swap the pups from a core PRS into and SE and I'd be absolutely shocked if someone could tell the difference in a test like this. That doesn't mean the core isn't significantly better in many other ways. I'd pay 2k more for: better details, more dramatic body carve, locking tuners, MUCH better sustain, better electronics, excellent warranty and customer service, more socially responsible (happy US employees), more bragging rights, plus having a badass instrument that can absolutely "do no wrong". If you think they are similar, you should probably try a PRS for yourself. Also, core PRS remain the only guitar that I haven't ever seen even a half-way convincing fake.
Benjamin Herbst The ending, when he tells the Captain that he made it through and to tell the cameras what's going on with him. It's what Sean Evans says after each episode of Hot Ones.
These blindfold tests are a true service to the consumer. As unbiased as it gets. A whole new channel devoted to this would be very popular i'd imagine. Good job guys
Rob Chapman OR let us see whether you recognize your own guitars among 10 other random guitars, played for 10 seconds! XD Thanks for video by the way. Loved it :-)
richardsim7 I’m happy someone can go find stuff like this because no one would go back to a movie like Blade just to find that one song in a semi forgetful scene lol
Maybe he knew it already. New Order are still a well loved band in the UK. It is worth watching that scene if you like Vampire films though, it's definitely the calling card for the film.
Don’t let this video distract you from the fact that Yousician is the best way to learn, practice and master the guitar! Just grab your acoustic or electric and play along!
When i started playing guitar with a professional teacher I had no idea what I was doing; but now that i use Yousician I can play *totally radical* riffs!
Say what you will, I think Lee's a man of integrity. I doubt they set this video up as a promo for Chapman. Plus, let's be real, those Chapman ML1's feel pretty nice
I died when Capt said he would prefer his guitar with lower action not knowing that he was playing his actually guitar. LMAO Rob's reaction was priceless! I've been watching the lads for years since 09. Love 'em!
Fun video guys! I own a few S-type guitars including a G&L and the Passive Treble and Bass control on it lets you dial in a more traditional vintage tone - something which has been overlooked in your G&L videos. The push-pull pot also makes it sound like a faux Tele. You should really do a video on G&Ls and cover the set of features on offer especially on the S-500! 12" neck, thicker neck, heavier body (Tribute models), improved tremolo system, MFD pickups (ceramic instead of Alnico) and the quirky wiring. Leo Fender was most proud of his G&L guitars!
The fast changes and the similar riffs played made it nice to compare the sound of each as a viewer. Your focus, understandably, was on the feel and playability. I liked the sound of your strat and the light blue one best.
I felt this was the first blindfold challenge that had a balanced choice of guitars and really worked. At least "I" thought it was the best one yet. Thanks Lee for going through that for us. I really appreciate it! ❤️❗️🎸 Edit to add. I think this was surprisingly informative. I also appreciated the humor in how you guys did this challenge. It was a lot of fun to watch.
What I would like to see is something with old vs new strings. As a lot of guitar shops have guitars hanging up with old horrible strings and they make me not like them! Maybe mix it up with cheaper guitars with new strings and expensive ones with old strings - but somehow without knowing! As I think strings can make a big difference to the tone of a guitar and might make some people avoid or buy a guitar!
So, blindfolded, you ranked a Chapman guitar alongside a rare Fender Custom Shop that has been hand built by a skilled luthier. That should be a proud moment, right there.
Hey Captain no need to apologise for Rob setting you up with the Chapman model. The most hilarious comment from trolls I see in these comments is “all they’re trying to do is promote Anderton’s gear to sell it”. No shit Sherlock! This is the video channel for the shop. It’s literally your business to promote and sell us stuff. Keep it coming!
Common sense in these comments. Thank god. It some times looks like a bunch of spoilt kids comment on these videos. I wonder how many of them are members of their colleges Socialist/Communist club.
The speed aspect was limiting and distracting and caused confusion in rankings. Where did the 1st Red Fender sampled on the clean go? That is what Lee was referring to as part of "the 1st and second one" The Cream G&L S-500 also "sounded great". He had a moment with that guitar that stood out on the clean. Another go at the S-type without a ridiculous 10 second rule is in order. Basically neck feel is the determining factor in a speed contest.
Yes more vids like this I love the blindfolded challenges and when rob says “it’s his guitar” after he said the action int how he would have it I Laughed out loud ,love it 🤘☺️
That Chapman was pretty sweet too...they're not usually my style but im seriously warming up to them to the point where I could really see myself investing in a good one....even the more affordable ones seem killer...it's just a bit different because I guess im a traditional fender guy, but sometimes something a bit outside of your normal comfort zone is such a turn on...something about rob's guitars are just beautiful...it's like meeting a woman in the most unexpected way, and you can only say wow.....
Honestly I think this is a great way to choose a new guitar! If there's one that can jump out and make you say "I love it!" when you are blind folded and have only ten seconds to try each guitar, then you know it's the one!
I have to travel round to teach guitar and that video on the mini amps was very eye opening! I was considering buying one to take to my students. Do more vids on cheapo and beginners' gear!
I want one of the ash Chapman guitars soooo bad! Natural finish, no pickgaurd, maple fingerboard. No shops in my area carry them though and the last guitar I bought online sucked bad. So I don't want to buy online again.
Something about Fender Stratrs their sound is unique, I personally love Strats, as for the Fender Squires there is a chap in the UK who clearly stated the big issue with them is setup, and as you stated Lee they are mass produced, thus the QC is not a 100% but when they are set properly they sound brilliant. but your 54 Reissue is absolutely stunning both looks and sounds, great video again guys,
Too true, Lee. There will always be someone who will think, and immediately pontificate in the comments, that any time a Chapman is in any way referenced in an Anderton's video, it is merely an attempt to flog more Chapman guitars. I wouldn't worry about the few who take issue.
Actualy fender did a 54 reisue (american vintage) in 2014 i think and it was the best they ever did with a all the same exact specs even on pickups and bakelite parts
Lee during blindfold tests “are you sure these aren’t all the same?” Rob during blindfold tests “I may be wrong but it sounds blue... like... a blue maple cap, probably a PRS”
I thought I had seen all of these videos. Somehow I missed this one. I know this is 4 years ago, but just curious why Lee has updated his signature model to one he would play now. Maybe a Chapman Cap-10S3? Custom Captain Lee pickups etc.
for april fools, do a video like this blindfolded, but just keep handing him the same guitar and see if he says anything different
That's an excellent idea!
CHESTRbeast I
I do believe he would know..I think he would know or at least think it the first time they trled.
Get him one of those Relish guitars and keep chsnging the pickups.
I was about to post the same lol
Videos like this are the reason this is the best guitar channel. That and the playing of Danish Pete
The best P tapes in the business!
Dont forget the fro bro!
This video would be much shorter if they were both lefties.
“Here’s the one lefty in the shop, do you like it?”
“No”
“Tough”
djjazzyjeff123 im a lefty. But pkay right handed. Just the way i learnt, not because of this reason, it felt natural to play right handed.
This genuinely made me sad
Scott Collier as a lefty who plays righty, I can say product selection was my main driving factor for learning right handed, and besides you use both hands a lot any way so it's not even that big of a learning curve, I have three left handed mates who have done the same, in fact I know more leftys who play right handed than I do leftys who play lefty.
also a lefty who plays righty, cant say looks were my main driving force, just felt more natural to fret with my dominant hand.
Legend says the one who invented the guitar was a leftie. We righties are playing it wrong
The blindfold challenge really is the best way to do these completely objective comparisons. I can't believe how my perception about what I'm playing changes as soon as I know what it is! @@DaigoParry - I've only just now read your comment, I realise it is quite a few months old, by Christ I hope you went and got that Aria as well!
I die laughing every time Rob snatches the guitar from Lee. "THANK YOU LEE!"
Bobby Shmudra THIS IS MINE NOW
“Falcon!”
@@yubtub89 rob does the same 🤷♀️
That hot ones ending was amazing. The captain was so confused.
I'd like to see this done with a PRS, since they put a lot of money into aesthetics
The thing is that Core PRS have a really distinct body carve that is really obvious when you hold it.
They did that a while back
They did years ago.
ua-cam.com/video/86ZVk2DYFYs/v-deo.html

Chapman and the Hot Ones reference ahahah Sean Evans has to know!!!
giuliofranco22 what hot ones reference?
Benjamin Herbst The ending, when he tells the Captain that he made it through and to tell the cameras what's going on with him. It's what Sean Evans says after each episode of Hot Ones.
Sean Evans knows all.

Agreed... And any naysayers need only notice that he didn't even put his own sig model into the top 3 lol.
Please do something similar to this with Rob!
Owen Minter Yes, order 10 different kinds of food and let me guess which one I like the most :-)
or get 10 different Chapmans and see what's the best...
or get 10 different Chapmans and see what's the best...
Rob Chapman OR let us see whether you recognize your own guitars among 10 other random guitars, played for 10 seconds! XD
Thanks for video by the way. Loved it :-)
Just 10? ;-)
To me there's no problem including the Chapman's ... well done guys.
wonder how would Pacifica fared in this
sucks they dont feature Yamahas enough...all these years and we've never seen a 311 or 611H....great guitars..
Totally agree! Would love to see some more Pacificas.
A Pacifica and an LTD (from the SN-series, obviously)
I have both 611VFM and 122V. 611VFM is absolute a beast guitar. 112v is best for beginners.
In my experience I would say pretty well, amazing guitars for the price.
The song in Blade is called Confusion (by New Order)
richardsim7 I’m happy someone can go find stuff like this because no one would go back to a movie like Blade just to find that one song in a semi forgetful scene lol

It's the pump panel remix of said track.

Jake Dowen *pleep* OFF *throws computer mouse against wall*
Almost as annoying as the bit at the end of the videos where I try to sell you a T shirt ;)
Andertons Music Co. The difference is that the T-shirts are cool and it la something I would want ;)
When i started playing guitar with a professional teacher I had no idea what I was doing; but now that i use Yousician I can play *totally radical* riffs!
Wtf is this only politicans lie more than this guy
That hot ones reverence at the end. 🔥
The G&l sounded fantastic
That G&L was a special one tbh. I would go for that or the charvel myself, but I totally understand.
I always believe your integrity. That’s why I watch you.

Rob snatching guitars from Lee is the most entertaining thing I've seen all day.
When I saw the Charvel, Squier, and Sterling I literally laughed to the point of tears.
I died when Capt said he would prefer his guitar with lower action not knowing that he was playing his actually guitar. LMAO Rob's reaction was priceless! I've been watching the lads for years since 09. Love 'em!
If you ever find the time, could you do a demo of the Vintage brand? Like the Vintage icon series?
I've owned a fair few of these and they've all been great for the money
Why can't andertons sell vintage jhs guitars? They really are excellent and I'd love to see em demo-ed here. Pleeeeeease!
For the next one just give him the same guitar 3 or 4 times in a row and watch him go crazy

G&L's are the real deal tone wise.
I'd say you sound you are in the pay of G&L, except I feel exactly the same way.
I thought it was the best sounding guitar on this showing
But the bridge and the heastock and logo are the worst of all other strat like companies by far... Id have one by now if those werent monstuous
I do like the blindfold tests. Would be funny to see if Rob could pick his blue Ghostfret out of a collection of 5 or 6 ghostfrets.
I liked the sound of the G & L best
Please do more of these!!
More blind fold videos please they are great
Poor Lee being rushed through the first phase. He got so frightened by how fast you were taking them away.
Loved the look of the sonic blue strat, and the Charvel looks and sounds awesome. The Chapman he picked just looks like it would feel great to play.
Hahaha, Lee's comments about the action on his own guitar, amazing
I have to admit, and not kissing ass, the ML1 sounded great ! Ya'll nailed it on that one. No credibility lost on this side of the pond!
The fast changes and the similar riffs played made it nice to compare the sound of each as a viewer. Your focus, understandably, was on the feel and playability. I liked the sound of your strat and the light blue one best.

That sonic blue strat is beautiful. I want one so bad.
Chappers face when Lee chose the Chapman guitar, the joy and happiness!
Whoever it was that sent them those monogrammed goggles is a goddamn legend.
I think it's funny that he didn't pick his own chapman guitar lol. No hate here I love chapman guitars but it's nice to see unbiased guitar picking
Love this. I'm looking to buy a Strat or Tele at the moment. Strats seem to get all the love. Could you do a video on a Tele shape?
Yes they are learning how to tastefully put chapman guitars in videos
I'm lusting after the sonic blue 59 custom shop on the website. way out of my price range though sadly

awesome video, and yea i'd love a blindfold test on the entire PRS line
Lovely randomness. Love it.
When Rob says natural instinct and for no more than ten seconds it syncs so well with the music
Yes! It’s back
It’s a shame you don’t carry Suhr, Tom Anderson or LSL. Some high end stuff from true custom shops in there would be interesting to see in the mix.
Mister Tee I'd definitely love Andertons to carry Suhr guitars.
They don't sell Suhr so far, that's why.
That's what we said... trouble reading?!
Mister Tee Fender custom shop...

Amazing.

Great exercise in subjectivity...not surprised the Shawbucker Strat was liked as that is a great harmonic humbucker as in my guitar I should know😉

Great video, lot of fun. I enjoyed the speed and kudos for your integrity!

Glad to see a G&L in that mix!
Actualy fender did a 54 reisue (american vintage) in 2014 i think and it was the best they ever did with a all the same exact specs even on pickups and bakelite parts
This editing is bloody gold
Ha ha ha! Love the “First We Feast” reference at the end there Rob!
The Chapman and Cap's guitar sounds frickin great.
I really like the look of the chapman that he picked it has the natural wood look like Jason Becker numbers guitar
Lee during blindfold tests “are you sure these aren’t all the same?”
Rob during blindfold tests “I may be wrong but it sounds blue... like... a blue maple cap, probably a PRS”
Love the blind fold tests - thanks guys 👍
This is convincing me to go and buy an ML-1 now. Standard or Pro I don’t care they both sound amazing
Great fun guys, now for Lee's revenge on Rob!
The best video I’ve seen from you guys in a while! Good stuff.
Captain you are really good with this. Huge respect man!
Yay, video from my idea! :D (and probably many others, but still ;)).
So...nice choice using the theme song from "Dead Like Me" there. If it wasn't, it's bloody well close.
Blade nightclub tune is New Order - Confusion (Pump Panel Reconstruction Mix)
Great shootout....how about a squire upgraded classic vibe Strat guitar to a high end stratocaster
That little look at that camera and look at that camera was a reference to Hot Ones I believe. But I could be wrong.
Lived this and the Les Paul version. Tele version next please?!
Awesome Intro and Video idea. Love the stuff!
I thought I had seen all of these videos. Somehow I missed this one. I know this is 4 years ago, but just curious why Lee has updated his signature model to one he would play now. Maybe a Chapman Cap-10S3? Custom Captain Lee pickups etc.
Hahah the way Chappers just grabs the guitar out of Lee's hands
